Most AMAZING dive holiday that we've had! FANTABULOUS! Many thanks to Max Ammer and his Papuan team at Sorido Bay Resort, Raja Ampat, a quintessential paradise with tranquil blue waters and rarely a boat in sight. With an abundance of marine life and diversity, diving at Raja Ampat was pure delight and each dive sight, unique and different.

I simply loved the accommodation, good size, fresh, simple with the most indigenous papuan art. The bamboo blinds and white muslin drapes were absolutely refreshing. All this with a breathtaking view of the ocean, chirping birds and sound of the waves! Couldn't ask for more :D

We loved diving with the Papuan dive guides, Arnol, Usal and Deo for enabling us to have an amazing experience, showing us great gems underwater and helping us with taking pictures (precious memories) Many thanks to the dive guides and the boat crew for ensuring our safety at all times.

DIVING was our main activity, we also snorkelled, tried kayaking, visited the aquarium and it was lovely learning about the ongoing re-shark conservation project.

Always hungry after a dive, there was hot and freshly cooked meals served with a smile, thanks to Lin and Iwan. Dining was very social and all sat at one big table and enjoyed listening to Max's narrations and his passion for his many projects ie; woodwork, boat building, school, re-shark etc.

1. Laundry service was free which is very uncommon and a great service to have.
2. The room has a well lit, spacious camera cum work platform with sink and running water hence very handy to wash masks, equipment etc. Great Idea!
3. On arrival, Max accompanied us to our villa and when we were departing, he came over to say goodbye, bless him, that was very endearing!
4. We were given the most heart warming farewell with papuan music and dancing, and even celebrated Revoldi's birthday, nice lad, always smiling.
5. Not to forgot the sweet bao buns, yummylicious!!

We hope to return to this paradise again...

If I could give Sorido 1000 stars I would! This place is absolutely amazing. The dive manager Alessandra is so organized and made sure everyone was taken care of on a daily basis. Deo was my guide for the week and he made me feel so comfortable on every dive (even during the blackwater dive which I am not sure I would have had the guts to do without him, but was totally worth it!). All dives and excursions went flawlessly - our gear was ready to go on the boat every morning making it so easy to have a nice breakfast and then head right out. Diving in Raja Ampat is like nothing I have ever experienced before. The reefs (including the house reef) are so beautiful and healthy for as far as you can see. I am not sure I will be able to dive anywhere else ever again. Seeing the baby blacktip sharks swim by our bungalow as I rested before dinner is something I will never forget. The team is also great at making sure snorklers have an unforgettable time. My partner is not a diver but our trips always headed out to the same location so our surface intervals could be spent together. My partner was a bit nervous to get in the water at first but the team made him feel so comfortable that he couldn't wait to get out there every day. The bungalows are so clean, comfortable and beautiful, the food is delicious, and the whole team in the kitchen/dining area is also fantastic. The communal dining really added to the experience as well. It was so fun to hang out and talk to everyone about what they did/saw that day. I really can't recommend this resort enough! We can't wait for when we are able to come again :)

We had a group of 5 for this trip. We were impressed by the diving, staff and resort. The rooms (Sentani bungalow) were well furnished and spacious. The photographer's workbench in each room was a welcome treat. This provided space to lay out all of the gear, charge and rinse off - all without having to leave the room.
The dive boats have plenty of room for up to 6 (plus 2 crew and 2 dive guides). The gear is all managed for you by the staff and they are especially careful with the cameras. All of the dives are "live boat" where the group back rolls off simultaneously (live out your Jacques Cousteau fantasy). The simultaneous entry is especially nice for the higher currents encountered at some of the sites. At the end of the dive the boat picks up the groups - we often split into 2 groups each with a guide, to avoid rushing some of the other photographers. Delicious snacks were provided between the dives. We generally chose to 2 tank morning trips. The guides were very attentive and a great help in finding some of the smaller and more elusive critters. This is the first dive trip that we have been on where the snorkelers are treated as well as the divers. They had their own boat and the locations could be optimized for them. Arguably, they had a better view of the mantas than those of us on the bottom or hooked in at Manta ridge!
The food was excellent with a good variety, able to satisfy the adventurous eaters as well as the picky ones. There were lots of fruit and veggies as well as vegetarian dishes in addition to the chicken, fish and beef. The pastry chef must be commended. The puff pastries were as good as or better than what I have had in France and Germany (and far better than found near home in Wisconsin).
The staff was fantastic with everyone extremely friendly and polite.
The variety of fish and other critters is amazing. I gave up shooting the "common fish" and went just for the unusual. We saw dozens of species of nudibranchs, squid, a flamboyant cuttlefish, a blue ring octopus, mantas and sharks. There were many sharks to see both on dives and to see along the jetty. The visit to the adjacent leopard shark hatchery was also very interesting. The evening appearances of the Cuscus were a lot of fun and several in the group got to feed them bananas.
Highly recommended and worth the travel time to get there.
Our 10 day trip all to soon came to an end. Our group agreed it was in our top 3 destinations. We have been doing trips to the Pacific and Caribbean together for over 15 years.

Had a great time at Sorido Bay Resort. It is a remote island and resources are scarce, however the accommodation and the hospitality exceeded our expectations. Do not expect five star facilities but everything you need is in the bungalow. The bungalow is very comfortable and good sized equipped with AC. Water is slightly salty but manageable. Laundry service is complimentary so we always had clean clothes to wear. Some small insects in the room now and then, but it didn’t really bother us.

Food always had varieties and all were on the healthy side, with a minimum of 5-6 dishes every meal. Very little fried food, lots of fresh juices and fruits. Menu changed everyday, the homemade bread were always good. We were very pleased with the food selection.

Perfect location, jetty rides to dive sites were all relatively close, ranging from 5-20 minutes. Very friendly staffs, majority of them are Papuan, not all of them are fluent in English but good enough to do the daily communication, always willing to help.

For our trip, special thanks to Lius, Usal, our dive guides and Nimbrot, Penius, our boat crews. And of course Chris and Andrea for taking care of us under the water and above.

The transportation boat from Sorong to Kri island is a 2-hour ride with no AC, so bring a fan and ice water to keep yourself hydrated.

We went to Raja Ampat to dive. Sorido bay is rustic (nice!) with every comfort, large, comfortable chalets on the beachfront. Staff concerned with good service, meeting guests' demands promptly and willingly, always smiling and helpful. Varied food, including dietary restrictions.
The team took care of all diving equipment and this comfort was great after the day with 3 dives and more at night. We use Nitrox. Very good operational structure, as were the guides and dive master who accompanied us.
There was breafing prior to the dives at the hotel.
Ideal place to dive and relax.

Had my third stay at this resort this past November. Stayed a full two weeks this time which was longer than my previous stays. I definitely recommend a minimum two week stay. It allowed for more excursions including twice to the Fam Islands where the scenery and landscape is unlike anything I've seen before. The snorkeling at the Melissa's Garden site in the Fam Islands is great. Even better is the snorkeling along the Fam Wall where there is a large variety of soft corals.

Also went on a couple of night snorkeling trips where you really do see things that you don't see during the day such as a walking shark and a sculpted slipper lobster.

The resort has the perfect combination of a wide variety of snorkeling opportunities, excellent meals and clean, spacious and comfortable bungalows and my next stay has already been booked. A special shout-out to Alessandra, the Dive Manager, for arranging the perfect combination of snorkeling excursions, James, the Boat Captain, for his vast wealth of knowledge of the local area, Yahya, the snorkel/dive guide who can spot tiny creatures such as some nudibranches, and well camouflaged fish such as stone fish and crocodile fish and even a wobbegong shark hiding under the coral, and to the servers at meal times who all do an excellent job.

I just returned from my second trip to Sorido Bay Resort in Raja Ampat in Indonesia. The word “second” says it all! With so many great places in this world to visit for a diving adventure, I actually went back to Sorido instead of going to a new place (and it is my husband’s third visit). This resort has everything that you would want in a dive vacation. The dive sites are pristine and very diverse, the dive guides and boat operators are engaging and professional, and the facilities and operations for diving are superior and smooth. I am a marine ecologist and have studied reefs all over the world, and I am heartened to see how lively and lovely the biodiversity is in Raja Ampat. On the resort end, our bungalow was comfortable and very nicely decorated, with a lovely porch and hammock right on the water. The food, served family-style, was full of wonderful Indonesian flavor (but we still had European options for breakfast, popular with many) and included at least one vegetarian option for each meal. The joy of family-style dining is getting to know visitors and divers from all over the world. The folks working at the resort (I hate to use the word “staff” for such important people) were friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend Sorido Bay Resort to anyone wanting a once (or twice!) in a lifetime dive vacation.

We stayed at sorido for 7 nights and it was a truly amazing experience.

Firstly , the diving. This is by far the best place we have ever been diving and the sorido resort is in prime location being only 5/10 mins boat ride from amazing dive sites such as cape kri (which holds world record for most fish species identified in a dive). The abundance and diversity of sea life is astonishing; we saw turtles, sharks, barracudas, wobbegong sharks, sting rays and a personal highlight many many mata rays which was epic.

Secondly, the staff. On par with the amazing diving was the amazing staff of sorido bay resort and we could not speak more highly of them! Chris Barfoot is awesome and has done great work with all the dive guides as the general manager. Chris was also our instructor for our advanced open water and made the course an enjoyable experience. Highly recommend completing PADI courses at Sorido as the dive instructors are world class.

The local dive guides, usal was our local dive guide, are exemplary as well. Still amazed how good they are at pointing at all the interesting sea life from the large mantas to the small pygmy seahorses.

Chef Jen and her staff are all incredible too. Always going above and beyond to make sure you are happy with the food selection and I was really impressed with the quality and variety of options given how remote the location is. Every meal I was spoiled for choice !

In terms of logistics they make everything so easy. I booked directly which an easy process and Jimmy was always quick to respond to my questions during the process. They arrange shuttle taxis from the airport to the boat to take you to the resort and then on the way back so you never have to worry about it.

Raja ampat is known as the last paradise and the sorido bay resort lives up to this title. Thank you to all staff at the resort for a truly once in a lifetime holiday !

I can't say enough good things about this resort. To begin with, the snorkeling is incredible with guided trips to a large variety of sites each of which has its own unique features, including one where you snorkel along a vertical wall that starts only about 5 feet under the water. The snorkeling guides are excellent at pointing out species like crocodilefish that are out in the open but so well camouflaged or that are "hiding" in the coral that you'd never notice on your own. This resort caters equally to snorkelers and divers.
The cottages are very spacious and kept to a very high level of cleanliness and maintenance and are all beachfront with just a few short steps to the water. There is ample variety of food served buffet style to suit everyone.
Beyond all that, what makes this resort top notch is that every staff member is cleary working as part of a team that is focused on ensuring an excellent guest experience. As examples, you only have to tell one staff member of any specific dietary requirement or of any species of fish that you would particularly like to see while snorkeling and that information is made known to all the applicable staff in a very short time frame.
This was my second stay at the resort and on most of the snorkeling trips, I was still seeing species that I had not seen before. My third stay for next year is already booked.

Centrally located on Kri Island, this small resort has a marvelous lagoon at the end of the pier where you can snorkel or dive by yourself and see a fantastic variety of fish, coral, and other things right off the end of the pier. We spotted turtles, and a wobbegong shark among other things in the lagoon. The food is very well prepared with a trained chef and many support staff. The rooms are air-conditioned and large with all the amenities you need. A very helpful and friendly staff that will help you with any of your diving snorkeling or birdwatching trips. The dive and snorkel operation is very well organized and they also have bird watching trips on neighboring islands that are well worth it. We were lucky enough to see a dugong when we were there snorkeling one day on an island close by. The Manta Ray dive was incredible as we swam for almost an hour with seven huge manta rays. The trip to Fam Island was also worth it, especially for the view when you climb a series of stairs. A big thank you to Tion, Julian, Marsha, Chris, Lius, and the rest of the staff that made our stay memorable.

Dear Steve, thank you for reaching out to us. We strongly encourage you to bring your favorite tipple & cigarettes. It’s quite difficult and expensive to get alcohol in Sorong, so if possible, we encourage you to bring your favorite spirit / cigarettes from the Duty Free shop in your home country. We offer soft drinks, juice, wine and beer in our bar, and ice is readily available at your request. Drinks can be brought back to your room or the sun deck for your enjoyment outside of the restaurant area :) Hope this helps, Papua Diving Resorts
