Fagunia Farmstay is a charming stone villa on a stunning farm estate in the Himalayas near Nainital for discerning travellers wanting to reconnect with nature. Literally handbuilt stone by stone by a Kumaoni farmer and now lovingly transformed and expanded by a Pahadi-Telugu couple, the villa is an epitome of subtle charms and understated luxury. Nestled in a quiet little hamlet and accessed by a beautiful but adventurous drive through an enchanting forest filled with birds and over old British era arched bridges across seasonal waterfalls, it is a special place to experience. Surrounded by a beautiful forest and a seasonal waterfall on two sides, farms on another side and with spectacular views of the mountains of Pangot and Nainital in front, we are sure you will fall in love with the place like we did. Located about 15 km from Nainital, this little piece of heaven is the perfect place for discerning travellers looking for something off the beaten track, literally.

Overview: On the outskirts of Nainital, in a remote & peaceful hamlet by the name of Faguniakhet, Fagunia Homestay is located in the midst of farms. In short, if you seek tranquillity, this is the place for you. Property & Room: Cutting about 15kms before Nainital city, Fagunia is located about 7-8kms off the highway, the last few kilometres being quite a slow & bumpy ride. And the last 200-off metres are to be covered on foot through a small & picturesque pathway across the village & the farms. And it only gets more peaceful once you reach the property - a standalone bungalow with a large lawn overlooking other hills are settings of a picture postcard. They have four rooms, and ours was their flagship Barbet suite, which had a fairly spacious living area, a well-sized main bedroom, and a large bathroom. However, the highlight of the suite was a petite attic room, accessible through stairs from the living area - it had a mattress, decked with fairy lights, and windows opening to the sky - it was probably the quaintest sleeping spot ever and definitely the most charming part of the suite. The main bedroom was clean, spacious, and well-appointed with its own library, a small terrace facing the lawns and the valley, and two entrances - one main and the other with access to the 'Biergarten-ish' eating area. One needs to spend enough time in the idyllic garden to soak in the views and listen (and watch) to the various song-birds who can cheer up anyone. F&B: All their meals are sumptuous & very homely. It's a very good blend of local pahadi cuisine along with the regular fare, so a very safe combination. Deepaji's home-ground masalas in the food and their evening snacks were a hit and did we indulge. Pushkar on one of the evenings baked a loaf of brilliant banana bread. To sum-up, it was an excellent gastronomic experience. Service & Amenities: While we were there, we were hosted by Pushkar, Deepaji, and Pandeyji. They were warm and accommodating. Pandeyji took for a short walk around the property, while Pushkar accompanied and guided us for a good trek to a point overlooking the Jim Corbett National Park, it was a brilliant experience and so worth a couple of hours. Another great recommendation was for the driver – Balam, who picked us from Pantnagar and dropped us back to Rishikesh and was also with us on the days we went to Nainital and its whereabouts - he was probably one of the most straightforward, nice, and soft-spoken men we've met in a long time, we would very strongly recommend him if you need transport during your stay at Fagnunia. Finally, they've endeavoured to make the property and the entire holiday experience very environmentally friendly and it's a really commendable initiative - so kudos for that." Overall: All-in-all, we would strongly recommend Fagunia Homestay - the property is an oasis of peace, and being cut-off is a perfect balancing act to our urban lives. The service is commendable, their welcome gift makes for a memorable start to the stay here, the food excellent, and the accommodation extremely comfortable and cozy. It is a great place to reconnect with nature herself and thank her again for all that she has blessed us with. We'll definitely be back in another season, either to experience the rains or the winters :) Thanks a ton Aditi & Anil. Regards, Nidhi & Rohit

We stayed as a family - 4 ppl over 65, 2 kids under 5 and a couple. This is a completely off road location, secluded and away from any city life. It has beautiful virgin hikes, you’ll spot birds you’ve never seen before, porcupine quills and leaves with over 8 colours in them. Our kids loved the hikes collecting pine cones, petting the village cows, farming with the farmers and even found a horse shoe! The food is simple and home made- nothing fancy but delicious and freshly made. If you are looking for something fancy it’s definitely not the place for you. The rooms and house itself is very well done - clean and each room has a stunning view. This place is perfect to unwind and relax :) however if you are not fit then it’s not a place for you as to get to the farm stay you need to do a steep walk for about 10 minutes which one of parents out of 4 really struggled with. We loved our stay and would surely go back at some point - close to nature and a true gem.

Absolutely loved it. I looked up the place and knew instantly this is where I am going because they follow sustainability practices and have built it ground up with just those. It made me so happy as I didn't have to think about and ask for regular water (not mineral), steel or copper cutlery, and not some single-use plastic or styrofoam stuff. So the decision was made! Reaching till Bajoon is pretty straightforward. And then there is a 3KM trail kutcha stretch to reach the property. But it's totally worth it as the place offers you solitude and fantastic views. Was there for 5 days. Two days it was raining cats and dogs but even then the place doesn't bore you. Have multiple cups of chai, watch the clouds cover the hills, and then disappear. There are little waterfalls and some fabulous trees nearby. The hosts Aditi and Anil are so welcoming! Well, they are literally welcoming you to their home :) The staff, Deepa, Pushkar, and Pandey ji are all adorable. They make it a home away from home. And that's what I love most about the place. On the sunny days, I loved running and trekking the trails nearby. Worked out with great views in the background. Also trekked to Khurpatal which is a no-tourist lake 7 KMs away. Nainital is about 15 K away if you are looking for some touristy stuff, which i did on the last day. See you soon, again! Anil and Aditi
