Warm welcome from the hosts. Clean and tidy room, but in need of a bit of TLC. Lovely fire to sit by and enjoy a drink, food and service excellent, knowledge of local area very good. Shame not better supported by locals.

Spent 2 nights in room 6 and could not fault it. This is an inn converted from 3 old cottages and is brimming with atmosphere. Remember to duck if you are tall - the ceilings are low! Wide range of beers and ciders, and a good dinner menu by pub standards. Real bacon and sausages for breakfast - sets you...

A very old pub on the Mendips, with fair reviews and "management pictures" so I decided to stay. A bit steep, at £70 B&B but it sounded ok. First impressions pretty poor from the outside, car park at the back with grim looking doorway into the building. Reasonable enough inside as you would expect for an old pub around here,...

Was very lucky to get booked into this lovely Inn. It is in an ideal position, only 2.8 miles, straight road, to Cheddar. The Penscot has two lovely bars one with the tv for all the sports, a lovely dinning room. We were booked in for bed and breakfast but also had dinner here too, the menu is varied and...

Enjoyed a tasty roast beef dinner in a convivial atmosphere. Locally sourced beef was well cooked and very tasty. Food was piping hot. Sticky toffee pudding and homemade lemon cake can also be recommended. Will be back.

We stayed here for a couple of nights whilst in the area to visit Street outlet village. We got lost on the way and did not arrive until very late but they stayed open for us which was very kind. The room was clean and, although small, had everything you could need including a very indulgent corner bath. Breakfas was...

If you're looking for 5 star luxury and all mod cons this is probably not the place for you; but if you're cool with olde worlde places with creaky floors and rickety windows, then step right in! The Penscot Inn in Shipham has got a friendly atmosphere and heaps of character. The rooms are on the cosy side but clean,...

Stopped off at this great pub on a weekend walk with ex-colleagues in the beautiful Cheddar gorge. Having walked for over 3 hours over some pretty tough terrain and gasping for a pint I've never been so glad to see a pub. The barman and his mother were very welcoming and amusing, we had some great banter while we were...
