The room was very comfortable and the freeview had an excellent signal. Free wifi that worked no problem in my room at the edge of the hotel. Staff are very friendly and happy to help. I met one of the owners Kevin and he was friendly also and took the time to have a chat. Very comfortable stay will be...

Whilst the hotel is comfortable, lovely and clean the rooms do need a little extra e.g coasters on surfaces for the hot cups, a light over the tea making area, also the bathroom needs touching up where wall paper is lifting in corners. The hot water takes a long time to reach some rooms but when it gets through brilliantly...

We went to the first wedding that The Portland Arms had held since re-opening after several years, and it has to be said, the new owners did a wonderful job, despite the typically Scottish weather! A lot of the hotel has been refurbished to a high standard or is in the process of being refurbished, so I would say that...

We found this place whilst passing through. We arrived tired and hungry and they found us a table even though they were quite busy. I had the roast chicken with haggis which was second to none. Good food, reasonable prices. The staff are very friendly and the service also.

We had a really nice time. This place is under new ownership and they are putting a lot of money into it to bring it back to its original glory. We each got the pan fried trout...deliciousness. We are split the toffee bread pudding...yummy. Go if you get a chance.

This was our first visit to the Portland Arms Hotel and it certainly won't be our last - we had a lovely evening. Met by young, friendly and very pleasant staff, the bar / restaurant area offered a really nice and relaxed atmosphere. We had a drink first and then enjoyed an excellent meal. There was a very good choice...

Had a very good evening meal at the Portland Arms with some friends. I opted for the steak pie and chips which was very tasty and served piping hot. Extra gravy in a small gravy boat on the side was a nice touch as well ! All our meals were tasty and wholesome, along with some excellent beverages - the...

Was on a camping weekend with my friend and the camping ground got flooded. Tried to book a room in the hotel but they were fully booked with a wedding. A guest cancelled and the lady on reception asked the lovely Hayley to find us to offer the room. We were found (wasn't easy) and despite muddy boots and wet...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Portland Arms Hotel is located near the wild, rough Caithness coast, on the edge of an old fishing village in Lybster. It provides guests with the ideal base for exploring the far north and the Orkney Islands. Dating back to 1850, the hotel was originally a Coaching Inn; today it's a family run business offering superb food which is cooked to order by our talented chefs. The hotel reopened in March 2016 after being closed for three years. We have a bar and restaurant, as well as a traditional ballroom which can cater for up to 300 people and we even have our very own event organiser to create the perfect event just for you. ... more   less
