Detailed Reviews
I had a WONDERFUL getaway at Casa Linda in Huayápam.
The owner picked us up in town. We were able to enjoy the drive there without any stress of not knowing where we were going. It is not very far from the city, but far enough away to be noticeably quieter and at a slower pace.
What an incredibly beautiful place she has! Lovely grounds and garden areas, house, casita and furnishings, both indoors and out.
The owner is a collector of folk art and textiles and she has an eye for beauty and cultural significance. Each piece has an interesting story.
In fact, she also offers tours to various areas; some tours are specifically for exploring different types of folk art. Her knowledge and connections are extensive so I am sure her tours are fascinating.
Lovely dining area, and she knows how to cook! Breakfast was fabulous and she even prepared us a gourmet evening meal one night.
Her staff worked quietly in the background, adding their own special touches to the atmosphere while maintaining high quality in the cleanliness and repair of the place.
I met some very nice people who were also staying there and no one seemed to mind that I chose to spend most of my time on my own in my room. I loved my room, and resting, reading and playing my musical instruments was exactly what I enjoyed doing there. It was bright with plenty of space and my own bathroom plus a nice private patio area.
At the end of our stay, our host drove us back into town, which was a very nice service to end an excellent getaway.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Casa Linda to anyone!

We didn't stay at Casa Linda, but we did hire Linda for three days of visits to artists' homes and workshops in the villages north and south of Oaxaca. This was a pure delight, and I am certain that anyone who stayed at Casa Linda could arrange the same sort of experience. At every place that we visited, it was immediately clear that the artists knew, respected, and in some cases loved Linda. She doesn't take commissions, which put us in a wonderful position with the artisans. And she went way above and beyond in at least two cases: taking us to an amazing place we never would have thought of visiting (and never could have gotten into on our own) and making arrangements that spanned several days to pick up a ceramic piece that we loved—put hadn't been fired yet—from a remote artist. So, two thumbs up!

I stayed last week at Casa Linda in the private bungalow and the experience was fantastic. The gardens are amazing—full of ceramics from the local artisans. Breakfast was tasty— lots of fruit, pan de chocolate, and mole negro tamales. But the main attraction is Linda who has a rich knowledge of the local artists in the area and is generous with her time to tell you all about them or show you examples in her museum-like house. We went on some folk art tours together and I discovered many new villages and artists even though I had been to Oaxaca several times before and collect folk art. Stay here to learn about folk art and the artists who make it.

Linda's home and garden are an exquisite collection of Oaxacan folk arts.We arrived very jet lagged from Australia late at night and Linda picked us up at the airport and took us straight to an incredible fiesta in her local village. Linda patiently worked with us to design arts focused trips that accommodated our personalities and specific arts tastes. We had wonderful visits to the homes/studios of Oaxacan artists and artisans. We were so privileged to experience the wonderfully gracious Zapotec people facilitated through Lindas deep respect for their culture and art. Linda is a wonderful and easy host whose insight was matched by a tireless energy to her clients needs. We could not recommend Linda highly enough for providing us experiences we will cherish for a lifetime and we will certainly come back to repeat.

Dia de los Muertos in Oaxaca
Linda is a very welcoming host, and her place is absolutely beautiful. Oaxacan folk art covers the walls & every surface of her home; the garden is lush & peaceful; & we found the bed, bedroom & bathroom really comfortable, with everything we needed. Also, Linda’s dogs made us feel very much at home.
The food Linda provided was delicious too - we enjoyed tamales for breakfast in the garden one morning & an American breakfast (bacon, eggs & maple syrup) in the dining room the next morning.
Linda’s knowledge of & respect for Oaxacan folk art & artisans attract guests who have similar interests & so during our brief stay we were fortunate to meet people who are now friends.
Our stay with Linda was particularly special because it was during Dia de los Muertos. Linda took her party of guests from one village to another to partake in the celebrations, from morning until the early hours, over the days of the festival. It was an amazing experience – an emotionally touching & beautiful kaleidoscope of colours & flavours & sounds & scents.
We visited the homes/studios of local artisans, where - as Linda’s guests - we were welcomed & invited to eat with their families. We also visited local cemeteries with these families. It was a privilege to be included in the festivities as these warm generous people welcomed their dead home with brightly decorated altars, flowers, incense, & special foods & drink. If only our culture approached life & death in a similar way! We’ll definitely return to Oaxaca & we’d love to stay with Linda again.

Casa Linda was such a treat! A wonderful experience with the proprietor (and cultural guide) Linda Hanna. A small and intimate setting surrounded with a large variety of Mexican folk art (a museum all by itself). Breakfasts were special as well. Linda’s knowledge of the Oaxacan folk culture and her tours to selected locations made for a great stay. We would go back for sure!

I stayed with Linda for a few nights and I really enjoyed my stay, she makes an amazing breakfast and is very fun to be around. The house is beautiful with art and craft everywhere! We went on a few trips to look especially at workshops and with Lindas knowledge and connections they were really great, Linda also helped me with connections to different makers after my stay, very helpful indeed!

Casa Linda is a unique B&B. We enjoyed all the outside areas in the beautiful large garden that includes a well, a fountain, several sitting areas and very nice breakfast area. The house displays so many crafts, paintings, pottery, rugs from Oaxaca but also from other regions of Mexico that it would take hours to see all of them. The rooms and bathrooms were clean. Breakfast had generous servings of fresh food and also local dishes. There are many places to visit in Oaxaca City and surrounding areas, from museums and historic buildings to pre-columbian sites.

Casa Linda is a secret gem of a B&B a few minutes outside of Oaxaca town by taxi in Huayapam. The house is the best folk art museum you will ever experience yet complete with all creature comforts, including gourmet breakfasts, endless cookies, and evening wine and snacks. Except when there is a wedding next door the accommodations are very quiet. The jewel in the crown is hostess, Linda Hanna, who is a folk art expert and most knowledgeable tour guide. She has long-term relationships with many of the cream of the artisans, wood carvers, weavers, rug makers and potters. Part-time chef, Sam, fed us glorious meals. Her stated goal is for her guests to be happy and she does a wonderful job of seeing that they are.

It is a real pleasure to write a review of Casa Linda. I just spent two nights there and could not have been more comfortable. Linda is an exemplary host and did everything and more to make my stay enjoyable. I took one of her tours to the nearby artisan communities which she tailored to me as I was the only guest at her house that day. She graciously picked me up from the airport and made me dinner, with wine, upon arrival. And then she dropped me off at my next destination in downtown Oaxaca. Her house contains a fascinating collection of Folk Art. I have no hesitation in recommending Casa Linda.
