Detailed Reviews
Stayed here for one night with a friend and booked a spa deal directly with the hotel. Booking was easy and requests for additional information was no trouble. On arrival the Manor looked beautiful despite horrible rainy weather, check in was quick and easy.
I had booked a twin room, but we were given a family room instead. This was ok as it had a double bed and a single but the single was more like a put-me-up bed and not comfortable. The room and bathroom were both quite large however and plenty of extra pillows were provided. Unfortunately there were a few niggles, starting with the light outside the room door as it did not work all the time and as we had actual keys, not key cards, to unlock the door, this was quite tricky and ended up using my phone torch to see! In the room the decor was fairly tatty, one lamp was broken, the information folder on the desk looked like it was about 100 years old, the shower was lukewarm and too low for me to stand up in, bath was way too small and very stained and despite 2 large radiators on full blast the room was really cold.
We had treatments booked and so asked at reception where the spa was and we were given directions. Be aware that the spa is a completely separate building up quite a steep hill. The treatments were the best thing about the whole stay, probably one of the best I've had. Staff were friendly and approachable and it was excellent value for money.
You can't get to the pool from the treatment centre, so can't make use of robes as you have to get dressed to walk to the pool building! Very badly designed. Changing rooms were way too hot, lockers were mostly broken with keys jammed in them, pool was freezing, there is no jacuzzi, steam room and sauna can fit about 3 people comfortably, unless you like being up close and personal with strangers! We were not offered towels at reception either. In the gym there was no-one on hand to show you the machines, no water cups in the water machine and lots of the machines looked pretty grubby. Needless to say we didn't stay there long.
We had our evening meal in the bar, very little choice but the food was nice. The bar staff could have been friendlier though. There was not much atmosphere so we went back to the room.
Breakfast was in a small dining room and we had to get the hot breakfast food in a different room up the corridor. The breakfast was ok, but the black pudding was like eating a rubber ball, absolutely awful, my coffee was cold and even though was not busy had very few slices of bread for toast and no white bread at all.
Overall it was less than average, I would use the treatment centre again but give the hotel and pool a wide birth. We've had 10 times better experiences in 2 and 3 star venues than this so called 4 star. If you're looking for luxury, good service, good facilities and edible black pudding do not stay here. We won't book here again.

So my wife and I booked a room for the night as a pre Valentine’s escape .
The room was booked ok . But when it came to making enquiries about booking a slot for the meal it became troublesome .
We posted two or thrrr messages on the website with no response .
Friday 4tj February
Well we arrived no issues . Fair to say it’s well hidden away !!!
The two members of staff on duty gave us a warm welcome and were friendly / helpful and advised we had been upgraded to four poster beds . So five stars
The room was absolutely lush in fairness . However mobile signal and the TV had issues trying to work .
So to dinner time:
I ordered the fish and chips and my wife Cheese and pickle sandwich . She was told there was no cheese ! No cheese !!!
So she ordered a burger which should have come with cheese
The food arrived (May be 40 mins after ordering) and the fish and chips was lovely . Peas on the cold side but my wife said her burger was tough and has asked her for a fight twice .
The ambiance was nice in fairness. The room was well arranged
Saturday 5th February
Breakfast I ordered the vegetarian breakfast snd my wife porridge . Mine turned out to be bigger than I expected and wished I hadn’t eaten the cereals snd danish .
My wife said her porridge was quite thick and came with raisins . At no point was she asked if she liked them or wanted them.
The bathroom in the bedroom was also lovely .
Overall it was an enjoyable stay . But some of the issues with the food , TV and wifi dampener the stay

David thank you so much for your kind review. I am sorry that you encountered issues with trying to contact us; we were in the process of changing our IT company and lost all communications for a day and a bit. The bedroom in question is a favourite of mine am so glad that you liked it. We will always try our best to make guests comfortable Mobile telephone signal can be patchy here due to our location. If you had let us know about the TV we would have sorted it straight away. Our portions are on the generous side, better to be well fed than fed up! Apologies regarding the cheese. As far as the raisins are concerned, This certainly requires further investigation! I do hope that you will return and see again soon

We visited this hotel just before Xmas for lunch. Despite having sent an email to preorder Xmas lunch for our group they said they hadn’t received it. So we just reordered. The main room with the huge Xmas tree was beautiful and welcoming with garlands adorning the fireplace, really lovely. However we were shown into the Portrait room for our Xmas lunch. What a strange place. Portraits of people covered the walls but oddly portraits of meerkats were dotted in between the humans. I could just hear Alex Polizzi in my head saying ‘What the **** is that all about?’ In addition the room appeared to be furnished with metal garden chairs that were very heavy so we struggled with those. Our Xmas lunch arrived. No effort had been made, not a parsnip in sight, the turkey seemed to be from a packet and vegetables were limited. We had to ask for more gravy and wait ages. However the meal was tasty and my chocolate dessert was heavenly. But the worst thing was that the signs for the exit as we drove out of the grounds were totally insufficient in the dark and bad weather. We actually drove out the way we came in and ended up nearly adjoining the dual carriageway facing the wrong direction. We realised our error and did a quick three-point turn to avert a disaster. We drove back into the grounds and found a small arrow to indicate the exit. Very dangerous. Sorry but we won’t be returning.

We are sorry that the decor in the restaurant was not to your liking.. But on the whole you enjoyed lunch and you gave us a three overall and a four for location? . I am a little confused that due to you getting lost on your way out, which I can assure is well sign posted, you will not be returning. We will gladly welcome you back if you wish to return!

we realise hotels have struggled during COVID, but this one advertises "Portraits Fine Dining Restaurant". The reality is pub food in the lounge. The chef has disappeared - no explanation why, when we queried the lack of "fine dining". In that case, change the website to reflect the reality.
Our room could have been cleaner and we ended up making our own bed - the room makeup service is distinctly dubious. Dirty glasses left, the washbasin uncleaned.
The hotel makes clear on its website that function catering is its main offering. But a pity ordinary residents are made to feel second class citizens. A funeral party took over the entire place during our stay and there was no reception area left for us to occupy.
An old place like this is bound to be a bit cranky, but a radiator gurgling all night meant we got little sleep. Room 21 is best avoided until they fix the problem. Plus no hot water in the washbasin, a broken heater and my wife was unable to make the shower work. No tissues in the room, no bin in the bathroom. Not 4 Star by any means.
We raised a couple of these issues when we left. Staff, mainly helpful, were apologetic. But a waste of moiney, overall. Not a good advert for Welsh hospitality

Thank you for the review Hospitality was badly affected by Covid and the various lockdowns. We are fortunate to have survived many did not. As a result many talented individuals have left our industry sadly. The decision was taken to temporarily streamline what we offer food wise until we could successfully recruit. I do apologise for the spectre of our plumbing catching you in Room 21. We would have gladly moved you had we known. The funeral party was for someone very dear and close to the Hotel - no further comment on that. We pride ourselves on Welsh Hospitality here, all plumbing and staffing matters are behind us I hope, after the recruitment of a very talented Head Chef and a two week shutdown for plumbing works. A little late to help you, perhaps you wold venture back and try us agin?

Stayed for a weekend to celebrate a family birthday and it was a nightmare from beginning to end . Our booked family room seemed initially to be ok but no hot water and bath taps could not be turned on . Staff could not open taps either or solve lack of hot water so we had to use facilities in adjoining room for first night .
Dinner a huge disappointment as very limited choice and lacking any vegetables at all !
As the adjoining room was booked on the Saturday night we then had to move and eventually were offered a room with we were assured hot water but a put you up bed was installed rather than a proper family room . Water was still not hot but just about tolerable but room cold and draughty. Asked for a heater but nothing arrived .
Had dinner in the bar as menu choice in the dining room the same and not allowed to order from bar menu in the dining room but you could do vice versa !
Sunday morning .... guess what .. no hot water again .
Staff generally could not seem to care less and not interested in any discussion on any discount and expected full payment.
The whole experience was awful and quite honestly one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in .
Fo not stay there. Just do not understand how they are still in business

We booked a reservation for today and was offered only a 2.30pm slot which we accepted.
On arrival we went through the Covid protocol ie filling out tracking details, temperature taken which was good to see that these were being observed for our health and safety.
All good so far!
We ordered drinks and then the waitress came to take our order.
Starters - Soup, prawn cocktail or garlic mushrooms.
We were told the prawn cocktail had run out. My husband was disappointed but ok we ordered 2 mushrooms. This starter was very basic with a cream sauce but no hint of garlic.
Mains - Beef, chicken or pork.
We were told the beef and chicken had run out but they had replaced the beef with brisket.
I chose brisket my husband chose pork. The brisket was ok but I had had enough after I had eaten a third. My husband enjoyed the pork but this time he was disappointed when he asked for apple sauce as an accompaniment but was told they had run out. By the way the broccoli was so hard we couldn’t cut it with our knives- undercooked broccoli or blunt knife?
This was our first meal in a restaurant since lockdown restrictions have been lifted and we left feeling we might not bother again for a long time as my home cooked meals are far superior.

I booked a spa day for my partners birthday. Whilst there were restrictions in place, I found the experience very disappointing. There was no use of the showers, no hot water in the sink taps, no hand sanitiser , no jacuzzi or steam room working due to "COVID RESTRICTIONS". Would have been nice if they told me this when booking or even upon arrival!
Save your money, very disappointing not a nice relaxing experience. Issue after issue...

Do not arrange any events at this hotel. The business and events team are a shambles, and the service non existent. When we arrived to set up the room, the room was not as promised, it wasn’t clean and there was glass all over the floor. We were charged an additional £180 on the day for chair covers as the ones they provided were filthy. They said none were ordered, but on every occasion the room was viewed, the room was set up with white chair covers. They also cut the prom short on the evening. To top it off, it has taken 3 weeks for the business and events team to even respond to my complaint. Keep clear is my advice!

This was before lockdown,I've been waiting for response to my complaint all this time. £385 2 nights B&B, incl. use Health and Fitness Club. I paid extra for lunch & Dinners, which at best was mediocre but got worse, one dinner we left most of the main course, the desert which was supposed to be rhubarb tasted disgusting; also not eaten. The waitress didn't seem to be surprised and offered no replacement. We ordered afternoon tea, the teapot had old food stuck to the inside of the lid, the response from the waitress was "oh do you want me to make another?" The swimming pool heating had failed so it was cold, when we spoke to Hotel reception we were told "sorry we have reported it". A member of the Fitness Club said it had been broken for at least a week nothing had been done.
The only positive of this expensive experience, is the Manor house from the outside and its setting is beautiful, but the interior tired and not clean. Bedroom grubby and obviously not seen a vacuum cleaner.
When we checked out I mentioned all of this and was politely told to write to the manager, had it not been a treat for my daughter I would of refused to pay the full bill but thinking that I would receive some thought of gesture from the manager I did pay in full; regrettably.
I wrote 4 times to the manager and phoned, he was never available and I even asked for the owner, also not available, asked for someone to call me but this never happened, to this day I have not even had the courtesy of a reply.

Visited here with my mother for a surprise lunch, should have checked here first, reception lady and waitress very friendly and it stops there. We were taken to the dining room, a room more akin to a house of horrors paintings of heads on all three walls the only warmth was the fire. We sat by the window so had a view of the garden and ordered our food, 40+ minutes later came a curry that appeared to be just warmed up and the wrong meal for my mother, a burger instead of a chicken breast, and there was no excuse as I clearly spoke to the waitress re the aioli that came with it, rather than waste the food my mother (89) attempted to dismantle the burger to eat some of it, it was so overcooked she couldn’t get a knife in it. Waitress called and apologised saying she was not familiar with the menu and that she would change it but it would take around ten mins as the chef was doing the afternoon teas, not happy but decided to accept 29mins later food arrived again overcooked, although we were not charged for this meal it did not make up for the disappointment, it would appear that this venue is a classic style over substance. I gave it a one star for the receptionist and waitress.
