The property is stunning. The staff was extremely personable and attentive. They always had a smile. Palapa was the only restaurant open since it was off season. The food was delicious. The beach and adult pool were truly breathtaking. The villas were spacious and very clean.

My husband and I have been intrigued by Great Exuma for quite some time. Obviously we wanted to swim with the pigs in the crystal clear water.. lets be real. We decided to venture to this remote destination as a birthday gift to ourselves (February 2019). We wanted the resort style amenities without the feeling of being at an over populated resort, and that is exactly what we got!
We stayed in a garden view villa overlooking the pool with slight ocean view, these rooms are straight up-luxurious. The kitchen was stocked with all the necessities such as pots and pans, cutlery, coffee maker, dishwasher etc. The bedroom and bathroom were immaculately clean as well as bright and welcoming. Everything in our unit worked and housekeeping was on top of their game as our room was always spotless. The back patio allowed us to unwind after a day in the sunshine or a nice place to start our day drinking coffee and watching the sun rise. We stayed a total of 10 nights last February which included my birthday, as well as Valentines day. We had dinner on the property multiple times at the Palapa grill, it was delicious and included many varieties of food. Being from NY we are accustom to delicious food and i can say hands down this resort hits the nail on the head providing excellent cuisine.
The beach access from the pool is nice and close and the water is beautiful and inviting. The hotel allows you to utilize their water equipment which is nice because after all, we are there for that turquoise water. You can take a romantic walk along the water where you will see Sandals and you will feel confident you made the right decision by staying at this 5 star resort, the privacy is palpable. If you are debating staying here-JUST BOOK IT, you won't regret it. I personally enjoyed dining off the property just as much, so if you are someone who likes all inclusive-the food on this island is SO great i wouldn't recommend eating every meal at the hotel!
We both received massages during our stay and highly recommend the spa! Our technicians were great during our couples massage and professional. The spa is clean and punctual which allowed us to we really enjoyed our swedish massages.

My daughter and two teen granddaughters spent a week in Exuma, Bahamas at the Grand Isle Resort in October. This was the perfect time to visit this resort since it is “off season”. The resort is beautiful and located in a somewhat private, remote location on the island. We had the beach and pools mostly to ourselves which made it a pleasant experience not to compete with touristy crowds. The villas are appointed with all the amenities needed to have a “home away from home”- well equipped kitchen, bathrooms with toiletries, linens, and daily housekeeping. The on-site restaurant offered a menu with variety enough for each of us to find a satisfying selection (not always easy for teens) and the food was excellent. The staff throughout the resort was helpful, polite, and eager to assist in every way. We loved this resort and will stay here again if we visit the Bahamas. The island of Exuma itself is somewhat rustic and remote but a wonderful place to vacation!

I’m not sure why this resort has a high rating. We just returned from my husband’s 40th birthday trip and we were disappointed with a lot.I’ll start with the pros, the beach is beautiful, well maintained, and the concierge/ front desk staff are excellent. Now for the cons, For starters, they have no entertainment during the day and most evenings at all. It was very dead. Not even music playing by the pool or at the beach on any day. We saw a lot of people walking over to sandals because of this. We stayed for 5 days and they had karaoke just one night. Nothing else on the other nights. The food is extremely overpriced and not good at all. $10 for bottled water, $20 for a kids personal pan pizza. No effort put into the presentation. I arranged a special birthday dinner for my husband at 23 north with balloons on the chair. The servers didn’t even wish him happy birthday. Most upscale restaurants will send out a slice of cake with a candle, they did nothing! The server then asked me if I wanted to buy a birthday dessert infront of him, just tacky. We paid $233 for 2 entrees, no alcohol and two small appetizers. The restaurant did not have a kids meal, but the server told me they had KFC chicken nuggets. They charged me $20 for a KFC kids nuggets. The restaurant wait staff were hit or miss in quality of service across the board. For what people are paying, I think the resort is very stingy in what they put out. The rooms don’t have a mini bar, and everything is for a high fee. It’s rated as great for kids, but they had nothing for kids at all. The only thing they provide are shovels and buckets on the beach. You would think at a family resort, maybe they’d have some kid friendly touches like someone coming around to make balloons or something, anything. A lot of other guests we talked to felt the same way and were ready to leave. It’s a pretty boring, super expensive resort. When I go to Disney, I know I’m going to pay a lot for the tickets but at least there is an abundance of entertainment, parades and things to make the experience magical. This was a ripoff. I would come back to Exuma, because the water is gorgeous, but I would never stay here again. It’s robbery what this hotel charges for every little thing. If you have money to waste and don’t care, go there, but I felt very disappointed in how much I spent for what I got in return.

Generally, the resort is well maintained and clean, and safe. The white sand beach and beautiful water looks just like in the pictures. The staff were all friendly.
Our one bedroom was very spacious and housekeeping was thorough. Our other ocean front 2 bedroom villa had 2 small bedrooms and 2 cramped bathrooms. Those could have been larger. The dishwasher in both villas were broken and were never fixed during our stay.
Life in the Bahamas is slow, but the service in the pool-side (Palapa) restaurant was extremely slow, even just to get a drink. Hardly any staff walked around the pool area or the beach to take drink orders, so you had to go to the bar and get them yourselves. There were only 5 umbrellas at the pool so we asked the pool staff where the rest were. (There were empty umbrella bases so we assumed that there were more umbrellas). The staff member said that he didn’t know, and that was the end of the subject. You could take as many towels as you wanted, but the staff did not help you find a lounge chair or lay the towels down for you. The lounge chairs especially at the beach had seen better days (falling apart...), and need to be replaced. There were no cushions either.
For the amount that you pay to stay at this resort, we did not feel it was worth the value.

Grand Isle Resort is situated on truly beautiful property. The crescent shaped beach is perhaps its most amazing asset.
The people who work there are also extremely kind. They are happy people who love life.
But where's the leadership? There is extremely low customer service, I believe, because leadership does have any training in place:
1. Over the course of four days, not a single person checked in on my mother (aged 91) or father (aged 96) or me to see if there was anything they could do to make our stay more enjoyable. THAT would have been helpful since the small requests I did make (a coffee filter, a stool or chair for my parents to sit on while showering), were NEVER attended to.
2. The pool area has a lovely towel stand. The employees sit there all day folding towels and playing with their phones. Meanwhile, my parents sit on wicker chaise lounges not having noticed the towel stand. NO ONE thinks to offer them a towel. NO ONE thinks to offer them a glass of water. NO ONE thinks to move their sun umbrella to accomodate them.
3. While we were there, their fine restaurant, 23 North, was closed without notice. The front desk didn't even know this was the case until i tried for two days to make a rez.
4. Pool Hut food at a "resort" for 4 days? A ridiculous idea, but that's all that was available. And it's extremely lousy. Here we are in the Bahamas and the fish is neither fresh nor local....frozen salmon from wherever.
5. Golf carts are death traps. I would not let my parents drive without me and I wish to God that the back seats of these things had something for folks to hold on to.
6. There are multiple sea kyacks and SUP's......when one walks up to the area to pull one of these 60lbs SUP's off the rack, the attendant likes to merely watch you attempt this on your own. when I asked for an oar he just pointed to one closer to himself than to me so as not to be bothered.
For clarity, every single time I asked for help, I received it. I'm told these are the best people with the best paying job on the island. Management could raise the quality of this resort if they made an effort. Management is so utterly lacking it makes the employee team look bad.

I am sure this place is as lovely as the photos, but unfortunately, their customer service is some of the worst I have found. We had reservations for the resort in June, but due to COVID, travel was banned and we could not travel to the destination. It has now been almost 6 months and not only can we not get a refund for our deposit, I cannot even get a live person to respond. They are accepting new reservations, but no one can assist with a refund? Please remember this if you are planning to make a reservation at this resort during these unpredictable times-- you likely will lose your deposit.

My husband and I just enjoyed a tremendous stay we had at the Grand Isle. We just got back from a week in a one bedroom villa (which is very spacious) and could not have been happier with our vacation. The staff just went out of their way to be helpful and they are all so very friendly. What a tremendous attitude of service and joy they exude! We really enjoyed our meals at 23º North and Alvin is just a gem of a bartender. Rodrique and Xanthia were excellent servers and made our time there feel like we were part of the family. The popcorn shrimp and conch fritters were to die for as well as the margaritas! We loved the upscale ambiance and cocktails overlooking the beach and pool. Palapa restaurant overlooking one of the pools was lovely too and my husband was a big fan of the piña coladas and pork sliders. The villa itself was huge, well decorated, and so comfortable. We haven't slept so well in a long time. It was so quiet at night and we loved the oversized bathroom and big living/dining areas and kitchen. It was actually a very livable apartment. I loved all the Occitane amenities -soaps/body wash/shampoo/conditioner and loads of fresh towels. We didn't want to leave at all. The groundskeepers do a fabulous job keeping the place blooming with beautiful flowers and palm trees. The pool areas were so beautiful and there is so much space that we never felt crowded. We even saw sea turtles swimming down at the beach, which was a lot of fun. The resort is located on one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. In short, we would love to come back and bring the whole family!

As you can likely imagine, we certainly value our many amenities, our picturesque settings, and our ample and spacious rooms. With that in mind, we have long believed that it is really the genuine hospitality provided by our team which makes us stand apart from other Exuma resorts and your kind words regarding your interactions with Xanthia, Rodrique, and Alvin leave us beaming with pride and further support that sentiment. My family was soooo excited to be vacationing at Grand Isle Resort for my grad school celebration. We’ve stayed at the nearby Sandals before and loved Exuma, but were looking forward to more of a home away from home kind of villa feel. Unfortunately, the resort/Bahamas closed due to COVID end of March/early April. My family has been trying to get our resort fee refunded since the first week of April to no avail!! The airlines refunded us immediately, but the resort will do nothing and keeps giving excuses why they haven’t refunded us yet. I have tried calling numerous times, no one will return the call. I have live-chatted with people on their website, but they only take my contact info and nobody ever contacts us back. I have sent several emails requesting a refund to their reservations and at some point a Robert Sands said a refund would be forthcoming on July 1st, but so far nothing! Waiting more than 3 months is completely ridiculous. This has never happened with Sandals and totally soured my family on Grand Isle!!!

We went to Grand Isle to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and booked two villas for our family. Unfortunately, our flight was canceled and the earliest flight we could get on was two days later. The resort charged us for those days. The tank for welcome drink was empty and the people at the desk did not greet us upon arrival. Not the best start to the vacation. However, the villas were clean, nicely furnished and very comfortable. The property has beautiful views.
The restaurants are very understaffed and service extremely slow. Also, you need to make a reservation to eat at the restaurants. All of the bathrooms in 23 North didn't work on New Year's Eve which was disgusting. I do want to compliment Rodrigue and Princess for their smiles during the long waiting periods for food.
The resort is surrounded by a beautiful golf course. The course is actually owned by Sandals and you must go to their property to sign up for a tee time, which is $175 per person. You can get access to a golf cart for an additional charge to get around the property.
The beach is lovely but LOTS OF PLASTIC in the water and on the sand. The Sandals resort did not clean the beach while we were there. So if you are looking for a nice walk on the beach don't leave the Grand Isle side.
From landscapers using gas blowers to the golf carts, this property is not very environmentally conscious. They do serve drinks in compostable cups and discourage daily cleaning of sheets/towels. However, they could do more. For example, encourage bicycle use or work with Sandals to keep the whole beach clean. In the bathrooms, they should use refillable cleansers rather than tiny bottled soaps.
We had to take a taxi off-property to get supplies for our room. The convenience store could be better stocked, especially for families with young children.
There are rat traps, in plain sight, all over. It would be nice if they were discreetly placed where guests don't see them.
I encourage you to go on a boat tour. We spent the day with AAA adventures seeing other islands, the swimming pigs and iguanas. We went to a lovely local place for lunch as part of the tour.
Finally, I would recommend Grand Isle of you are a golfer. If you like to have lots of activity options, like tennis or exercise classes, this is not the place for you.

Response from B P, General Manager at Grand Isle Resort And Residences
Responded 9 Jan 2023
Dear DRL, It was a pleasure to welcome you to our expansive resort and we thank you for taking the time to share your thorough and thoughtful review. We are once again sorry to for your flight delays in reaching us and we are disheartened to learn that once you arrived your experience did not result in the serene and treasured moments, we are known to curate for so many of our guests. As your comments note, our resort grounds and housekeepers are fully invested in ensuring that our many guests rooms and public spaces are immaculately prepared, and we appreciate the accolades of their efforts. We understand your dining experiences were not as consistent and we apologize for any delays in service, a detail we will review with our team as we prepare for other special occasions. Until then, we have already shared your kind words with Princess and Rodrigue, and we can assure you that both were smiling from ear to ear. Your added comments regarding our environmental efforts have been heard and while we understand there is still more that we can do, we want you to know that many other efforts are in place, including a paperless check-in and check-out experience for our guests, office recycling and environmentally friendly cleaning chemicals to name just a few. We will continue to research the most effective way to minimize our footprint and we appreciate the suggestions offered within your review. On behalf of all of us, the pleasure was fully ours and we hope ours is a resort you will one day visit again as we would like nothing more than another chance to welcome you to the islands. Until then. Warm regards, Dean Spychalla General Manager Dean.spychalla@grandisleresort.com
