It's hard to imagine that three blocks north of the hustle and bustle of Nassau's main drag, there is a whole other side to Nassau. Graycliff is a beautiful historic property full of charm. The rooms are a charming combination of classical decor and modern amenities like Bulgari toiletries, thick white towels, comfortable bed, large bathroom and lots of closet and storage space. The pool is beautiful.and I enjoyed walking the grounds. At night the restaurant becomes the "Who's who" of Nassau, great for people watching. The main restaurant is very expensive but there is also a pizzeria and a churrasco restaurant also on the property. Other restaurants are a short walk or taxi ride away. It's a totally different world than BahaMar or Paradise Island and we loved that. It was a great way to finish our stay in the Bahamas.

Wanted to stay since we were eating dinner at the restaurant and wanted to easily enjoy drinks a cigar and retire when ready. Restaurant is reviewed separately. Service was very good. Reception, bell staff, and all staff very friendly and interested in our experience. Other hotels could learn from them. The hotel itself is tired. Yes it’s historic. However there are areas that’s are just unkempt. That’s not history, that’s lack of attention to detail. The room was large. Temperature control was good. Lighting in the rooms were poor. Bed was firm (too firm for me but your mileage will vary). We had two large bottles of water one cold in the fridge and one outside for the coffee provided. There was a Kuerig machine that was unplugged that required one to get on the floor to unplug one of the lights to plug it in. There was no cream for coffee. Bathroom was fine. Shower water pressure was almost nil. Included toiletries were very nice. Pool area was ok but no towels or service. There was a smaller pool that was not cleaned. I will likely be back for dinner but not likely back to stay the night.

he Graycliff did not disappoint. We had a lovely stay. The food was great, the evening music stylings of Pam were delightful, the rooms are large, the staff were on point always sweet and ready to make your stay wonderful.

One word of advice, the restaurant dishes are abundant. I’d start off small or order more as you go. We always ended up with go boxes. The food was yummy!

We LOVED the pool. It is beautiful and clean! One day there was one kther person and the second day we had it all to ourselves. You can irder drinks, water, whatever and they will bring it down to you. The lounge chairs are set up with towel coverings and they cushy. They also provide additional towels. Cool and refreshing!

While this place is in the middle of a residential area, you feel like you are in a high end luxurious historical resort with a fantastic mature garden to stroll. We stayed at two other hotels during our time in Nassau and this is by far the best!!!

We booked a 6 night stay over Christmas partly because we were intrigued by its history but the experience very quickly went sour. No decent coffee as “the espresso machine wasn’t working”. Prices for the evening meal were astronomical and our 2 starters cost $90 US. Breakfast next morning was almost nonexistent with the whole place like a ghost hotel: no food laid out in the dining room and nobody to serve until we had been downstairs for over half an hour. It seemed that there was no infrastructure and precious little service. The main pool and loungers looked unused and dirty and the smaller pool was green and filthy. Perhaps the only good thing was a comfortable bed. I should add that the taxi ride from the airport cost $65 US. We checked out after one night having decided to cut our losses.

We are currently staying at the Graycliff in Nassau and our experience has been very disappointing so far. We were looking for a unique place rather than a standardized hotel room but considering the hotel has five stars and charges accordingly (>3000 EUR for four nights without food and drinks) we did expect service and staff to be experienced and friendly. So far the lady at the reception has not been helpful at all. No information was offered on the hotel and its facilities itself or the surrounding. For every little thing we had to ask ourselves (location and timing of breakfast, pool location), no towels were provided at the pool until we asked, same for food and beverage service at the pool. Housekeeping didn’t show up until 1.30pm. The room itself is very big and mostly clean. Definitely also not worth 5 stars but again that’s something we expected and would have been okay with if service and staff were better. The extra bed for our daughter was not provided when we first arrived, despite having been confirmed by the hotel prior to our arrival. Internet is free but very spotty. The food is ridiculously expensive (eg USD 18 for a kids pasta with butter that was so small that we had to order a second portion for my 8 year old) and on top of the already hefty price they charge 10% tax and 18% gratitude fee at the end, making it USD 45 for a kids pasta with butter.

We were really very much looking forward to the stay but so far we feel more like a nuisance than treasured guests. I do hope that our experience will improve over the next days but as of now I wouldn’t recommend the hotel at all, especially considering the price. To me half the price for both food and accommodation would be adequate for the service provided but certainly not the price that they are charging.

A RAT literally ran past me on approach to the door of our room.

I frequent and love the Bahamas and was super excited to stay here as a wine lover after I read about the cellars and wine list.

Unfortunately it was a huge disappointment. The room assigned was down a one way street with no sidewalk, above a tourist shop that blared music from 10-5, half block from the main building. There was a weird back way to the shop/ room too, past disused reception and spooky, abandoned communal areas.

I booked room with a “garden or pool view” so I thought I would have no problem getting them to change our room. We schlepped everything back to the office asking to change rooms, and got a hard no without apology. All they could offer (eventually) was a room change the following day, but we were headed to a wedding that day and it was logistically impossible.

Friends who booked the same place on my recommendation had the most expensive suite in the hotel and were treated obseuquiously when they had a problem. Which felt weird and icky for all of us.

On a happy note, the wine cellar was cool to tour and the restaurant makes a big effort.

In short, this place is run down, trading on old reputation, and has a bait-and-switch approach to advertising rooms. Staying there was uncomfortable, unsafe and unsatisfactory. But if you are curious about the place like I was, a wine pairing lunch or dinner is a great alternative to a stay!

I booked the hotel for 5 nights none refundable. and left the hotel after the second night. The hotel room was dark, and smelly. The hotel needs attention. The shower ran cold after 5 mins. I called the front desk, and the lady told me they would send someone to check but no one showed up. The bathroom needs to be cared for and cleaned with details. The showerhead is rusty, corners are dirty. The AC was super loud.

I took my preteen daughter there, the first thing we were told was don't go out after 5 pm(super bright), not walk to the beach, ( 10 mins away) because the security guards work from 7-5 pm. and after 5 pm is not safe. Then they told me if you want to withdraw cash from ATM in town is better to get a taxi and let the taxi driver wait for you outside. (15mins walking from the hotel) If you go to the restaurant, also keep the driver's phone number and call him when you want to come back to the hotel. (6 pm still bright) My daughter and I felt uncomfortable in th environment.

The breakfast was horrible. The dinner was ok and some of the staff were nice. We checked out after the second night and checked into Grand Hyatt Baha Mar. It was day and night. The food was amazing. The enclosed beach and swimming pool were super nice. If you are traveling with family. Baha Mar is the place to go.

This is a quirky hotel; rooms are more tired boudoir than shabby chic. We were in the pool cottage set in the lush gardens and as the name suggests right by the pool. The pool is gorgeous but attracts large numbers of tourists, and the guides often stopped outside the cottage to explain loudly the pool's history.

The restaurant is overpriced and not as good as it seems to think it is. My husband had to send his steak back as it was overdone. To be fair, the service was attentive and when the second steak arrived, my husband said it was as good a steak as he's had anywhere.

Graycliff makes a thing of its extensive wine list but to present diners with a wine list that is over 150 pages long is ridiculous. We felt we were pushed into spending more than the wine warranted.

The 'complimentary' continental breakfast was farcical. Tax and service is not included and for a bit of toast, croissant and muffin is not good value. That said the service was friendly and attentive.

Graycliff have been totally unresponsive to my follow-up emails to chase a refund. $250 was taken to cover incidental expenses but we ended up settling the account on an another card and the $250 has not been refunded. I have tried to email directly (multiple times), used their website form and through booking.com but I haven't even received an acknowledgement.

When we couldn't book the Graycliff restaurant itself, we opted to try their Brazilian Steakhouse. What a brilliant find. We were not disappointed. It was a bit difficult to find the entrance to the steakhouse itself and the lighting is very subdued on the walkways. Surprisingly there was only one other couple eating there and they soon left. Meat quality was fabulous and the quantities unbelievable. Even when you turn over your "coin" to say you have had a enough our waiter encouraged us to try the lamb. It was superb. Generous portions of side dishes. A very extensive wine list with extensive prices to match. The service was super and our waiter very informative about the menu and the eating style (basically they give you a token and keep serving you until you turn it over!!) Definitely worth a repeat visit.

My boyfriend and I had the pleasure of spending a few days at the hotel (though we did not have a room there) dining in the restaurant as well as basking in the "Escape Nassau" experience. The restaurant is pricey, but you absolutely get what you pay for. From the moment we stepped on the property, we were welcomed by friendly and accommodating staff and enjoyed a very fine dining experience - that we enjoyed so much we returned again the next evening. The property (especially the lush jungle that surrounds the pool) is breathtaking. The pool area was well maintained and very clean. BY FAR the most impressive pool I have ever swam in - right down to every small tile. The staff were extremely polite and professional. By our last meal, we felt at home and amongst the company of old friends. We felt so fortunate to be able to indulge in such a little slice of heaven, and are especially grateful to those who went out of their way to ensure a wonderful experience. This was my second time here and we both agreed we would be back sooner than later. The walk from and to our hotel was a little cherry on top - strolling through the bougainvillea lined streets past the homes and churches that make up the local culture of Nassau. Would highly recommend!
