We had a wonderful one night stay at St John Inn. The website description and photos very accurately portray the laidback and quirky vibe of the inn. We didn’t get WiFi in our room (signal not strong enough) and a lightbulb needing replacing in the entryway of our room, but I’m certain if we would have brought this to the attention of the staff they would have been accommodating. The inn is within walking distance of Cruz Bay and is a good starting point for exploring the beautiful beaches of St. John. Having a quick included breakfast of muffins/bagels and juice in the morning made getting going easy. I very much appreciate the front desk holding our bags for us after checkout so we could enjoy the beach before departing back on the ferry, the terminal being just blocks from the inn. We never received the complimentary bottle of rum we were offered for booking on their website, but I also forgot to ask. I guess they will owe us two bottles next stay. 😉 Overall: wonderful staff, cute hotel, and great location. I wouldn’t hesitate to book again.

The St John Inn has a great location in Cruz Bay and is clean, comfortable and run by a warm and welcoming staff. Very much the St John island vibe here. The location is just a short walk from Woody's Seafood, the Quiet Mon Pub, The Longboard restaurant and the Cruz Bay waterfront. Rent a Jeep at Courtesy Car Rental just 20 steps down the street (super nice people) and you'll have easy access to a ferry shuttle.

St. John’s Inn is well kept, quiet, charming and conveniently located in the heart of Cruz Bay. If you’re considering traveling to the islands and looking at St. Thomas please reconsider. St John’s beaches, restaurants and landscape far exceed anything you will find in the larger more commercial St. Thomas. Also, I highly recommend this hotel, they are very kind and amendable to customer needs. The staff is very friendly and easy going. They take many precautions to keep themselves and customers safe during the current COVID situation but don’t make it tedious. Jeep rentals across the street, two large markets within walking distance. Restaurants and shop nearby. Again, highly recommend!

St. John Reef Bay Trail is a worthwhile hike to include in a vacation to this U.S. Virgin Island. There are two options. The trail begins on Centerline Road and is downhill for about two miles changing close to two miles in elevation. There’s lots to see beyond the obvious waterfall, petroglyphs and sugar factory ruins but you have to make the uphill return trip. We chose the U.S. Park Service sponsored hike which brings you from their headquarters to the start and picks you up by boat at the bottom. It isn’t cheap but a good Park guide makes it worth it and they will point out many things along the way. They keep the groups small and you can pack a lunch for a stop by the falls. Check it out if you can spare a five hour time block.

This was our second visit to The St. John Inn. We stayed previously in January 2020 and loved this place. At that time it was very clean, staff was friendly and very accommodating. Unfortunately, this time in February 2022 that was not the case. Our suite was unkempt, the floors were visibly dirty especially in the bathroom where you could see visual hair and debri swept in the corners. The bathroom had ants everywhere especially on the sink. The kitchen sink was also infested with ants and visibly seen in the sugar jar that was beside the coffee maker. Worst of all was the roaches! Attached is a very large roach that we killed in our room. I let the Inn manager know about the ants and roaches and he blew me off! No apology, no visit to the room to inspect, nothing! All he did was give me a blank stare and shrug his shoulders. Housekeeping was also aware as the dead roach was removed by them during the daily cleaning. Very sad to see that a place that was so very nice and well maintained has went down hill in such a short time. Not worth the $2700 we paid for the week. Next time we will pay a little more for another place that is insect free !

Response from Inn, General Manager at St. John Inn
Responded 14 Mar 2022
This is Dave, I am the owner of the St John Inn. I am truly sorry to hear about your experience. I was mortified when I read your review. I was surprised to hear about the bugs. Most people know that bugs are an issue in the tropics. Because of that we take every effort to seal every crack in every room. Literally the only way a bug can get in is if they come through the front door. I was also surprised to hear about the housekeeping. I have had the same loyal housekeeper for 16 years. I have never had an issue with the cleanliness of the rooms before. What mortified me, was the lack of empathy from staff. Staffing on St John has been extremely limited since Hurricane Irma took away most of the staff housing on the Island. That is still no excuse. The staff member and the manager were let go immediately after this review. This kind of behavior is absolutely unacceptable. We pride ourselves on a 78% return customer rate over the last 15 years. We would never be able to sustain this rate by treating people the way you were treated on this trip. Once again, I am truly sorry for your experience.

We stayed here in a 2br villa for 4 nights. This was our first stay at the St. John Inn and now we have the place we will be staying at from now on and where we will steer all our friends.
We checked in early in the evening and where met by Brittany and Mike (and their cute dogs), the hosts. It was an easy and welcoming check-in, and then Brittany took us on a tour of the hotel, showing us the patio area (grabbed a rum punch there that is their happy hour), the pool garden area, and then across the street to our villa.
The 2br villa (we had Villa #1 I believe) had a colorful picket fence around it and we were able to park our jeep right there on the street. The villa is very large, with a sitting area with a futon sofa, a large TV with satellite, and a/c. The larger bedroom has drawers to unload in, a VERY comfortable queen bed, a/c, and a fan. I need to sleep cold and the a/c and fan kept us very cold, perfect! The 2nde bedroom has the same VERY comfy bed, but no drawers to unload the suitcase. Both bedroom open up to the patio that has a view of the water and a table where I would have morning coffee and afternoon snacks. There is a large kitchen with a full size refrigerator, stove tope, coffee maker, etc. There is only 1 bathroom though, but we managed through it.
The St. John Inn is a very welcoming cozy spot in the middle of town. We have already booked our next stay in March. It's less than 5 minutes walking to town, and only about three minutes to our favorite spot, Woodys. No major hills to try to climb. We rented a jeep from Courtesy Rentals just a few doors down. Best of all Mike and Brittany are just the best hosts! We enjoyed their hospitality and friendliness. We cannot recommend this any better!

Not what we expected for $300 a night. Small room; had to lug luggage up steep, narrow staircase with wobbly wrought-iron railing;(oh and there was something dead at the base of these steps that smelled horrible all week); total of 5 hangers for clothes for 2 people for a week; bathroom could have used a shelf or two for toiletries; very noisy location with road and tugboat traffic; "breakfast" was breads and cold cereal or oatmeal, coffee and oj; pool is small with a big crack in it repaired with a brown substance?. Just doesn't seem owner is putting anything into the place. Do not recommend. One up-tic, manager Scotty and worker Holly were very nice. If you are on foot, the walk to and from Cruz Bay is sort of steep.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We're sorry your experience was less than perfect. Many people adore our historic building and some of the quirks like a narrow purple staircase. It is also very seldom we receive a noise complaint as we are located on a nice quiet street, but close enough to the ocean to hear the occasional boat horn. We're very proud to have recovered quicker than many properties after being destroyed by a couple category 5 hurricanes. We continue to put our money, energy, and love into our little boutique hotel.

I adore the St John Inn! It has been a perfect stay for us 2 years in a row! We love the location, walking distance to the ferry docks and multiple restaurants and shops. The managers Jim and Michael are great , knowledgeable and friendly! Our room was great and sparkling clean each day we returned! The beds are amazing , which is very important to me. The shampoo, conditioner and body wash that is provided is great too, I have very long hair that gets dry and tangled while snorkeling and the conditioner worked wonders! We love the complimentary breakfast and rum punch! I look forward to yearly visits to St John Inn for many years to come!

This was our 4th stay at St John Inn since 2020. We have done one night stays and multi-night stays. This time we were there for our last night of an 18 day visit so we could have a night in Cruz Bay and be close to the ferry for departure. We had to turn in a rental car so we arrived early, around 10:00 am. Courtesy rental is just a few steps away and is our go-to for rentals after many years of visiting the island. Our room was open so the office manager for the day, Fredna, accommodated our very early check-in and even offered breakfast and helped me move bags to the room. We met the property manager, Donna, who was helping guests make reservations and helping guests plan activities, even on her “day off”. All the staff was amazing and we enjoyed a day of lounging by the pool to relax after a long trip. We stayed in the Hart Bay room (111), which is a standard room that is accessed from the office area. The room was very clean. We had a mini fridge and microwave which was perfect for preparing a light lunch to eat by the pool. We have also stayed in the Honeymoon room (120), the Cruz Bay room, and the 2 BR suite with shared bath. All the rooms are unique, but consistently decorated in a colorful, Caribbean style. They also have excellent WiFi throughout the property :).

Small, cozy, eclectic, and fun! Highly recommend! The staff was so nice, including Jefferson the resident rescue pup. The owner has huge heart for animals. (Note: sign of great human)
Not glass, brass, and fancy-if you need that don’t stay here, but perfect for real people who love the islands. Comfortable beds and great complimentary rum punch happy hours to watch the sunset each afternoon. These guys are the best-they even have honor bar, community sunscreen, snorkel gear, beach chairs, and beach towels. You truly felt real island hospitality.
