The attraction for me with this resort is the beach. Love that it has both the usual beach activities with the bonus of snorkeling off the beach. The resort provides snorkel equipment for you to use which is acceptable quality. Beach towels also. Nice pool but the pool bar was closed while we were there. Units are a little dated but the bed and pillows were comfortable. Our TV did not work but weren't planning on watching it anyway. We did not use the restaurant here but the beach bar was okay though it closes a little early (8:00). Every other day maid service was nice. Never could get the floors clean so wipe you feet off before getting into bed. The office staff was just okay. No explanation of all the resort amenities and would be nice if there was a little map. Odd that the office does not open until 10:00. The coffee shop was very good and had nice bakery items as well. There is a taxi stand on site and it is only $6/person to go to Red Hook which has a variety of restaurants and bars as well as boat tours. For the price we would definitely come back.

I am glad to hear that you enjoyed Sapphire and plan to return. In the interest of informing future travelers please let me explain a few things. Sapphire Beach Resort and Marina is made up of independently owned condominiums and slips The condo owners furnish their units to their individual taste so each unit is different. Each owner also determines who they use for their rental agent. Some owners use a company that has an office at the resort but many owners use other companies. So for example not all units provide snorkel equipment, daily fresh towels or cleaning every other day. At Sapphire it is important to choose the unit you want to stay in and work directly with the owner to determine what is provided.

Sapphire Beach is a good location to stay in St. Thomas for a great view of St. John and easy access to Red Hook and their marina and restaurants. The property has several restaurants, Sudi's, the Beach Bar, Sea Salt, and Pizza Pie. The units are okay - studios, just a room with a bed, living area and kitchen with a bathroom. Plenty of parking if you have a car.

Glad you enjoyed your time at Sapphire Beach. Just so you know there are two different types of unit at Sapphire, the suite unit like you stayed in and larger two story villa units. All but one building (F building) are directly on the beach and F building is on the marina.

This resort is absolutely perfect if you want to be close to Redhook! You are about half a mile from everything.
The resort is located right on Sapphire Beach which has beautiful white sand and was never crowded when we were there. You can rent snorkel gear right on the beach as well as other equipment too. You can snorkel right off the beach and see so many fish and ocean life! There is also a bar on the beach and serves food. You can rent a cabana at the bar as well. There are free ranging Iguanas and Chickens all over the resort which I loved!
Since the rooms come with a full kitchenette, I recommend taking a taxi to the closest store which is about half a mile from the resort. I definitely do not recommend walking since there is nowhere for pedestrians to walk. Taxis are $8 unless traveling to the airport. I didn’t see any vending machines on the resort except at the Village Condos so you’ll definitely need drinking water. The little store on the property closes at 2pm so we had to travel to get supplies.
There is free parking for those who rent a vehicle during their stay.
The room itself was nothing to write home about. It was fairly clean but definitely older. We had an excellent view of the Marina and water as well as a balcony with a table and chairs. The kitchenette has everything you need except for coffee/tea. You will need to acquire coffee for yourself if you want to brew it in your room.
There are no signs on the resort nor is there a map of the resort so it can be kind of tricky when you first arrive. The office is not marked so if it wasn’t for the taxi driver, we would have had no idea where to go.
I definitely think there should be signs to easily navigate the property. I also didn’t think the price was fair for what you are getting unless you take the location into account. The location is definitely a top seller for me.

We were not expecting much from the location going into our experience. It was a place to lay our heads for 2 days and show our kids St Thomas before heading to another area island. We have been to USVI & BVI several times with our children but never stayed in St Thomas with our children.
Sapphire is weathered from the hurricane and age but we did not mind that at all. Again, just a place to lay our heads. It had a Beautiful beach and great location.
Upon checking into our room the door handle to enter the condo broke off. We were locked in the 2nd floor condo with no way out. The front desk sent someone after 20 minutes of being locked in our room. The lock had to be removed after another 20 min and we were told that they could not get us a new door handle for another day or two. The door did have the bolt lock but with an empty void where the handle was made it fairly easy to access the room even with the bolt lock.
I travel weekly for business for the past 15 years and never have I been locked in a hotel or condo before. As soon as we were able to get out of the room we left the resort and relocated to another property thanks to the incredible services of our credit card company.
Sapphire did refund us the full amount of our stay. These kind of issues can happen from time to time we realize that but after flying all day from cold climates and the only thing we wanted to do was jump in the ocean and have a dinner on property we were disappointed. My rating is based on my experience and take it for what you will when booking.

This place is in serious need of a face lift! View is spectacular and in its prime, this was a lovely resort. Units do differ based on owners. Last year we had a decent unit in Building B, however this year we were in D. First night our daughter complained of a terrible nights sleep. Come to find out, downstairs couch had bed bugs. Her arms and legs were covered in bites. Front office said sorry, when you leave we will “bomb and clean” the unit and don’t use anything on the first floor, stay upstairs. Really now? Also this unit had a terrible odor and I realize with age, moisture, etc. that these places tend to be a bit musty. Cleanliness is definitely not their top priority. Towels, sheets, etc all poor quality. Do not expect fresh towels-you are given one towel/person for your stay, a teeny tiny bar of soap, 2 rolls of toilet paper, dish soap that is totally watered down and a used kitchen sponge (gross!!). The pool has water, but nothing has been repaired in terms of outdoor buildings. Bar, grill and breakfast spot are opened. Amenities are so so unfortunately. There are beach chairs and they try to minimize the seaweed. If you choose to stay or return (in our case) be vigilant with the unit choice. Our units pictures were totally outdated. Pretty disappointing actually-afraid to use even a glass. Bought disposable everything at the market except for a wine opener, which a neighbor kindly supplied.

Karyn I'm sorry to hear that you had some problems with your accommodations on Sapphire. From time to time I see reviews on the island of St. Thomas about bed bugs. It's possible you had them but when I've looked into the situations it has usually been the case that it was actually noseeums that live in the sand and come out at dawn and dusk. They can have a very nasty bite but seem to bite some people and not others at all. If you rented directly from the condo owner you could have contacted them and most owners would have taken care of the problem as fast as possible.

I DO NOT recomend staying here. We booked a room that states 1 King Bed and 2 Queen beds and when we arrived, the two "queen beds" were pull-out couches. We soon found bugs all over the kitchen area, no they aren't ants. We all woke up with bed bug bites all over our begs and back/stomach. We had no hot water and the toilet was leaking every day. On top of that, we lost power about 10 times to the point where our grochrey food went all bad and we had to waste it all. no refunds are allowed either.

Sapphire Beach Resort is comprised of individually owned condominiums. When you rent through sites such as VRBO or Airbnb there are pictures of the condo and reviews from prior guests. You can then choose the condo you want to stay in and work directly with the owner to ask questions or communicate with if any problems come up. It is recommended that you rent directly rather than using a third party entity like Expedia as when you use them they assign a unit to you and they do not have access to many of the nicer condos. If you had booked directly you would have seen pictures of your unit and seen that there were not two queen size beds as well as a king bed. You also would have had an owner to contact to have a toilet fixed or an exterminator if necessary. In regards to bed bugs, most often it isn't bed bug bites people get but bites from no seeums that come from the sand on the beach. If there were bed bugs then every prior guest would have posted a review indicating that. I'm sorry your stay was less than you had hoed for but it is easily avoidable if you book direct with the condo owner.

DO NOT stay in Unit 203D with Tamuna (Host on Air Bnb), also is on expedia, Vrbo, etc. The place was okay, decent views, but the actual condo was pretty filthy. Looks like it hadn't been dusted in years, dirt and dust all over top of cabinets, stains on the toilet rim, loose cabinet pulls, missing trim. Overall needs some maintenance and updating.
We rented through Air Bnb, but when I went to give a honest review of the place Tamuna disputed it and now Air Bnb is censoring it. Absolutely ridiculous, I was NOT asking for a refund or any money back at all, just giving my honest opinion of the place and because she didn't like my opinion she was able to have Air Bnb censor it. Avoid Air Bnb at all costs, they only care about the hosts and not the guests.
Overall the place is sub par, way outdated, very small piece of beach with lots of seaweed. If you can just go to St. John and stay there, much nicer than St. Thomas, but if you can't get there I wish we would've stayed at the Margaritaville just down the road.

This is a very strange review and makes me wonder if the reviewer had some kind of an agenda. The feedback does not reflect the overwhelmingly positive 5 star ratings this property consistently receives across multiple platforms. Guests regularly praise the condo for its cleanliness, modern design, and well- maintained amenities, resulting in top ratings. Sapphire beach itself always is rated as one of the nicest beaches in the Caribbean.

We stayed in a wonderful condo overlooking the marina (building F 306) in the first week of November. This was the end of the off season when the temperatures are cooler (80s-90s), rain more prevalent and the area is not as crowded.
Our suite was very comfortable with a full kitchen, king bed, two baths (great showers!), AC, laundry, and decks on two floors giving a stunning view of St John. The owner had provided beach equipment such as beach chairs, snorkel and fins, umbrellas and more, though these items could be rented at the beach house if we needed more. The condo owner provided a great concierge service who recommended an outstanding jeep and snorkel tour operator.
The beach house had a bar open to the wonderful white sand beach and had attentive professional bartenders. Bar food, coffee and pizza were immediately available as well as a fine restaurant. A coral reef was literally steps away in the water where we saw great coral formations, fish and even sea turtles! There was always a taxi available, which is good as the area is not walkable and even nearby destinations require motor transport.
Aside from depending on taxis we experienced few negatives. There was off season maintenance on the roofs and patios of some of the buildings while we were there but it was minimally distracting. On our second day there was an impressive rain storm which knocked out the power intermittently throughout the day. The island does lose power regularly during storms but comes back within a few hours. Sapphire Beach Condos do not have a back up generator. We seldom saw the mosquitos but did wake up with itchy bug bites every morning. The shop has coral friendly sunscreen and bug spray for sale.
The nearby town of Red Hook had several solid restaurants, a grocer, modest shopping and a ferry that would take you to St John or to the main town, Charlotte Amalie (the latter ferry opens in mid November for the busy season). Other restaurants, beaches and attractions are a short cab ride away. We recommend Pesce Italian and Agave Mexican in Red Hook. Also Pangea next door to the Sapphire Beach property was a wonderful "fairy lit treehouse" experience with top notch food.
We had a truly relaxing, worry free vacation at Sapphire Beach. Our expectations were definitely exceeded!

The view was stunning and so peaceful. We were a short walk to the water from the unit we rented. There was a pool located right off the beach where there were men that would place chair for you anywhere you would like. The breeze was warm but the water was crystal clear and refreshing. There was a little beach bar to eat pizza, burgers, drinks etc. Everyone was so friendly. There was also a little cafe that serves breakfast and coffee from 7am - 2 pm. Taxis are readily available each day and all day.

The beach and the beach bar area is wonderful but the condo we stayed in was anything but. The front door didn’t have a welcome mat like all the other units, the door wouldn’t open all the way, getting stuck on the floor. The musty odor was pretty intense when we first walked in. The furniture was dated and the recliner that reminded me of the chair on Pee-Wee’s playhouse wasn’t functioning. The bed was anything but comfortable, only two sheets on it, no blanket or comforter. There were no sheets for the pull out sofa, just a thin blanket available. The bathroom was gross, the vanity was about to fall apart, the small shower was dark and the shower curtain wasn’t the cleanest. Sons light bulbs were burned out over the vanity. The kitchen was suspect, the cabinets felt like they were going to break when opening them. The stove was absolutely disgusting, rust and grease stains all over it, no desire to use it.
The outside furniture required a tetanus shot to use, every thing was rusted and stained. Most units had 2 beach loungers, our had one broken one. The back sliding door wouldn’t lock properly, the manager came down, said it would be fixed the next day, nope.later that week, we asked the manager for Beach lounger replacements, said ok, will take a look and replace, never did. Anytime we asked management, the response was, that is up to the owner. We obviously got a unit that has been neglected by the owner and felt ripped off.
The view was mostly of beach lounger storage, half the view was pretty.
This property would be great for spring breakers who want to be 30 steps from the beach bar and don’t care about the room.
This room was like a sleazy motel room you would rent by the hour, not a family tropical vacation!
The pictures when we booked didn’t seem to match the property. If you book this property, make sure you DO NOT get unit A101, you will be incredibly disappointed and feel unhappy with your situation.

I can't say it often enough- you need to deal directly with the owner of the unit you want to stay in at Sapphire Beach. Every unit is independently owned, maintained, decorated and managed by the unit owner. A 101 ownership situation is or has been in dispute so as you found out little upkeep has been done. Most owners work very hard to maintain their unit and offer a great experience but you don't get the same treatment if you go through a third party or rental agent. Use VRBO or a similar site and choose a condo at a location you like, that is furnished to your taste, and you will have a great time.

Will you have to pay to check an extra suitcase? Will you rent a car?How often do you want to cook?
We bring an insulated bag full primarily with meat- steaks, chops, chicken, and one time a turkey breast.
We do it because it is cheaper and the quality is better at home. When we come we stay for a month or two so it’s worthwhile.
On a 10 day stay it will depend on how often you plan to eat out.
It will be worthwhile to fill any extra space in your suitcase with snacks and any spices you use.
Probably 7 miles …in st Thomas that’s 35 min on some of the treacherous roads in any us territory… and sapphire beach is awful …don’t recommend it period …Megan’s bay beach is wonderful! Highly recommend…
