Marriott's Frenchman's Cove is often celebrated for its breathtaking views and pristine cleanliness, with travelers consistently commending the spotless rooms and well-kept surroundings. However, numerous visitors express that the cost does not align with the value received, especially regarding dining and marketplace prices. While the amenities and activities generally earn praise, there have been remarks about the nuisances caused by construction and the beach's modest size. Guest experiences with service are mixed; staff are recognized as friendly, yet service can be slow, and some guests dislike the sales pitch pressure.

I don’t understand the negative comments. Our unit was updated and very clean. As timeshare property, I expect to take care of the unit ourselves. Everything worked, laundry was great, appliances fine, kitchen well equipped for cooks.
Beach has a safe place to enter and exit to avoid rocks on the shoreline. There are rafts to lay on and some fish to see around the rocks.
We only had lunch at the restaurant but it was fine. Service was great.
When we requested a taxi to the grocery, the man at front stand told us to be sure to tell them we were staying here so we could get a 5% discount. Saved us $35.

Great hotel. Beautiful landscape. Only 1 restaurant on site; limited menu w/ reasonable prices. Large pool w/water aerobics each morning and beach also onsite. Complimentary Shuttle service available to the Westin Hotel where other restaurants were available. They drive on the left side of the road so we didn’t rent a car but cab service was very expensive everywhere you went was at least $10 per person and there were 4 of us. We tried walking to town which was about 15 minute walk away but realized it was too dangerous because of narrow roads and lack of side walks. We stayed in Virgin Gorda Bldg, 2nd floor with a great view of the beach and overlooked the pool. Staff were very friendly and quite accommodating. Enjoyable visit but quite expensive because everything is imported.

This is our home property timeshare but we have not been back since the hurricane damage a few years ago. I had read a few negative reviews and was mentally prepared but we were all pleasantly surprised and very pleased with everything the resort has to offer. Our family of 8, including 2 grandkids will have great memories of the friendly staff at the activity center to the bellman who joked with the grandkids. Onika from guest relations worked with me to get adjoining units as well as making sure our deliveries from Amazon were secure. We preordered groceries from Moe's and when we arrived, Jeff graciously made sure all of our packages, luggage, groceries and gear were delivered to our rooms. When we had a leak in the kitchen, within 10 minutes of our call to maintenance, someone was there and fixed the leak. The staff did a great job keeping the beaches, pool area and bathrooms clean and well maintained. You were given beach towels to last mid week, but there were always towel covers available at any time at the pool. And the units had washers and dryers if you really wanted clean beach towels daily. Some reviews complained about taking 3 elevators to the pool..the resort is built into the hillside and taking 3 elevators was really no inconvenience. And we noticed that anytime any staff member was on the elevator, they would relinquish the elevator to the guests. The grandkids loved the poolside activities and the people there made them feel special. We ate at the Sunset Cove for several meals and while the menu was limited, the portions were ample and the food very good. The Marketplace had great breakfast pastries but you had to get there early for the good stuff, which my hubby did. Our family had a great experience here and our only negative was the kitchen cabinets were a little worn..haha.

We arrived at 11 am (knowing the room would not be ready) and were checked in quickly. Soon, we were assigned a 2-bedroom unit in the St. John building, looking out to the roof of the lower building, with no ocean view.

We brought up the issue within minutes after we entered the assigned unit. MVC offered to change rooms during our stay if rooms with a view were available and we pay an additional $120 cleaning fee. They said once you set foot in a room and then change rooms, the room needs to be cleaned. This means one would have to first pay MVC a $120 cleaning fee before complaining about an MVC-assigned unit, which may necessitate a change of rooms. However, how can anyone know if there are issues with a room without setting foot in a room?

We also inquired about the assignment of rooms again during our stay. We were informed it was because we had not made a specific request in the “comment” section, wherever that is, for an ocean view when making the reservation.
We have been MVC owners since 1994, and it has been our experience that MVC would give the best room available at check-in. Now, it seems that MVC has changed. When you book “Ocean Front” and do not ask for a high floor or room with a view, you get a lower floor room with no view by default. This change is particularly disappointing for any beach MVC property - who would ever prefer a no-view unit at a beach property? It would be interesting to see the rationale for this business practice.

Sadly, we will not assume good service or goodwill anymore.

That said, the rooms here were spacious, clean, and well-maintained. We did not see roaches as complained in other reviews. The 3-elevator trip to the pool was less of an issue for us. We ate three times at the eatery by the pool, and the food was decent. While the service was slow, the servers were friendly. We did not use the balconies (though oceanfront) since they offered no ocean views.

Hotel suites are clean but dated. We stayed for 7 nights and had a 2BR suite for 5 and we had plenty of room. Yes you have to take several elevator rides to get to the pool but I'm not sure what people expect since the resort is practically on the side of a mountain. We had to take 2 elevators, no big deal. The pool and beach area are nice and there is no towel service as mentioned by others so don't forget to bring your towels provided in the rooms. $15 towel exchange seems kind of excessive but every room has washer and dryer so I had no issues.

Couple of negative things about the resort. There is no restaurant on the property. There is a place that has servers and attempts to provide meals but it is horrendous and Marriott needs to do better for their guests. We had lunch the 1st day while waiting for our room and never had another meal there. It's really embarrassing for a Marriott. There also seemed to be a really low level of concern that the resort was clean and kept in the best visible condition. Employees just went through the motions. The same garbage was strewn throughout the hallways and on the property the entire week we were there.

I'm a MVC owner and while this is decent resort on St Thomas it's far and away one of the worst maintained propertues that I've stayed at as an owner. If I come back to the island I wouldn't stay here given the price they charge.

Just my opinion

Not what I would expect from a Marriott. Three siblings and our families went together. My sister owned a time share. It was not worthy of being called a Marriott property. It was run down and needed a face lift. We had 2 rooms next to each other. One room had so many things wrong with it the maintenance team sent a note with a bottle of wine and snacks to apologize for being inconvenienced. Once that got settled, the room was okay. The bed had a few lumps and the pillows were horrible. I had a stiff neck the entire week. The property is small and the beach is even smaller. It felt very crowded. There just wasn't enough room for everyone. They tried to do some activities by the pool but it didn't seem like a lot of people participated. And the activities people didn't try to get everyone involved at all. There is only one small restaurant which is way overpriced. I mean it cost $105 for breakfast for 4. Coffee's were $5 a piece and a side of bacon (which consisted of 2 pieces) was $7. And 3 drinks at the bar was $41.00. That is just nuts. The people were all very friendly but the service was so slow.

This was the first time we’ve been back to the Frenchman’s Cove in seven years and the first time since the hurricane. It was great to be back, and it’s still one of our favorite family resorts. They’ve done a great job of maintaining the property and keeping the rooms modern and clean.

Their private beach is beautiful and has wonderful views of the sunset. The same goes for their large infinity pool. The poolside area has plenty of lounge chairs including umbrellas. If you don’t get there early enough to get a poolside chair, they have two other terraced areas with ample seating, and the third row even has fans in the umbrellas.

Snorkeling just off the beach is actually very good, and you don’t have to go far to see plenty of aquatic life. We’ve seen everything from turtles to barracudas and rays. It’s a very tame beach and great for families. The landscaping is very well maintained.

The rooms are very nicely furnished and have all of the amenities you need. They provide nice flat screen TVs in each room, and have the ability to stream your favorite channels. The beds and bedding are very comfortable. Each bedroom has a deck that provides amazing views of the bay.

For dining, the Cove is located poolside and is a good place to get pub grub (wraps, sandwiches and cocktails) as well as some nice entrees. The food is very good. Just don’t expect quick service.

The resort also have a nice poolside shop which has staples for your room, including snacks, pastries, wine, beer, liquor, and gifts. For food shopping out of the resort, there is a Pueblo Supermarket only about 5 minutes away on the way to Charlotte Amalie. It’s a bit shady but safe enough and they should have everything you need. Don’t expect high quality meats! Their grocery stores on the island are fully stocked with beer, wine and liquor, which is nice. A little further away (about 20 minutes to the east) is a Cost.U.Less, which is a little more upscale for food shopping with better selection of food, liquor, bulk groceries and produce.

The resort is conveniently located only about 10 minutes from downtown Charlotte Amalie, which has great restaurants and shopping. Parking is limited in town, so taking a taxi or water taxi from their beachside dock may be your best bet. You can also dine at the restaurants around the corner near the Westin hotel at Morningstar Beach. This is also a really nice beach to visit during the day.

All in all, this is a fantastic resort for family vacations. It’s one of our favorite spots in the world! Glad to see they’ve recovered after the hurricanes from a few years ago.

We stayed at The Frenchman Cove for my birthday 2/11-18/24 .My review is for the St John bldg unit 544 only because i read some other reviewers bldgs/units were older .The unit was spotless, spacious, nicely decorated, and had a fully stocked kitchen with upgraded appliances. The beds were comfortable. The showers had amazing water pressure and the views from every room were absolutely spectacular. Keep in mind everything is imported there & the prices reflect that..The resort's marketplace was ridiculously expensive but again everything is shipped in. There were plenty of seats at the pool & the beach..beach area is a decent size & the grounds were clean as well.

Overall I had a great stay in the 2 room Villa. The rooms are clean with nice up to date furniture. Daily pool towel exchange is not available. You only get 1 exchange mid week. This was an issue for our party of 8 since the washer and dryer in the room were small. For an extra fee you can request a towel exchange, which we did several times. The gym was adequate. A few more treadmills were needed since they were typically all filled between 7-8am. Water bottles were offered at times, which was a nice bonus. The pool was nice. Not too large or small. It was generally not difficult to get a lounge chair all day at either the pool or at the beach. 1 restaurant is not enough on a resort. Unfortunately, the adjacent Marriott is still closed, so no access to those amenities. If you have a large group, I suggest getting a car. There is plenty of covered free parking at the resort. There is also a vacuum outdoors to vacuum sand from the car. Hotel staff were great and accommodating. Our refrigerator had a leaky hose and it was fixed immediately. Our safe was not functioning and it was also fixed within a day. Overall a great experience and I would highly recommend this hotel.

If you are not part of the timeshare culture here you will get a condo in the back building furthest from the pool and beach. which requires 3 separate elevators to make it to the pool and beach. Service was mediocre at best with food service taking an especially long time for simple dishes like a hamburger and fries. Staff was helpful and Friendly but I found this island is lacking charm and warmth as most of the locals are irritated by tourist. Their bad attitude shows when you need anything or go shopping. We took our car on the Ferry to Saint John which had a much better vibe but still not 100% good with tourist. USVL=Attitudes ! I would recommend many other Caribbean locations as opposed to Saint Thomas. Always check trip advisor. This location does NOT carry a 5 star rating.. I wonder why ? You want to be Happy on Vacation, Not Feel like you are a bother to folks.

Easy to get them but we pre booked our transport to get to the hotel, and knew the set amount expected. When there to travel about we found taxis at hotel waiting always. Taxis charge in zones, can be $9 ,$12 or $15 per. person one way. they will tell you upfront once knowing where you are going the cost. I heard but cant confirm that they also charge for each piece of luggage
