The Buccaneer Beach & Golf Resort garners praise for its attentive staff and inviting atmosphere, complete with live entertainment. While the rooms boast commendable views and location, guests should be aware of some marketing inaccuracies. The resort's extensive amenities and pristine beaches are popular among travelers, though navigating the spread-out facilities can be a challenge. Cleanliness is a strong suit, as visitors consistently commend the well-maintained environment. However, some guests feel that the resort's pricing for food, drinks, and accommodations does not offer the best value.

We visited The Buccaneer in July 2024 for our wedding anniversary. It was our second stay at The Buccaneer and third to St. Croix. Everything and everyone was delightful. Even before we arrived, Lea Larson helped us make dinner reservations at restaurants both on and off the Buccaneer site. We stayed in one of the Ridge Rooms which had a grand view of the resort and the Caribbean, plus the steady breeze on the ridge made it cooler even on hot days. The Ridge rooms provide convenient access to the Terrace restaurant for breakfast and dinner and it's easy to drive down to the beach. We also dined at the beach front Mermaid restaurant which was surprisingly good and enjoyed a fire dancer show. The beach was clean (they rake it smooth every morning), there was always a towel attendant and even a fresh water shower at the Mermaid beach to rinse off. BTW, we were there a week and saw not one shred of sargassum. Buccaneer owner Elizabeth Armstrong has created a remarkable sustaining work culture where every member of her staff at every level are ubiquitously cheerful and helpful. IMHO the Buccaneer is the best hotel on St. Croix.

The Buccaneer doesn’t disappoint. The 3 beaches are beautiful. All meals are delicious. And most importantly, the staff at the resort (and in St. Croix in general) are some of the friendliest and kindest people you will ever meet. We stayed in the highest Family Cottage on the hill, which had stunning views of the Caribbean Sea and was a convenient walk to all restaurants and beaches. The Family Cottages were a great fit for my family because my two elementary school-aged kids got their own room, while my wife and I had a large room with a king bed and a window seat. The cottage also had a 4-person patio dining set and 2 lounge chairs on the front porch/patio.

My kids especially loved the Monday night fire dancer show and the Tuesday night mocko jumbies show at The Mermaid. The Buccaneer truly understands hospitality and manages to be elegant without being pretentious.

This was our second stay at The Buccaneer, and we plan to return again soon.

There are plenty of great and descriptive reviews of the Buccaneer here already, but here are some of our tips from spending a week there with our teenage sons. 1) The website can be a little confusing regarding dinning, but dinner is at the Terrace Wed-Sun and at the Mermaid on the beach Mon-Tue. The Terrace is great, but I would plan on doing it just once during your stay (somewhat limited menu). Mermaid is a different menu each of the two nights and worth trying both. Entertainment is great and the location on the beach is fun. Load up on the included breakfast and keep lunch light. Make reservations for dinner in advance either at the resort or in town. While the resort and Christiansted never felt crowded, all the good restaurants fill up and won't have spots even a couple days in advance 2) If you play tennis, plan to play at the Buccaneer! It is a fantastic facility with a great pro (Dean). There is a round robin Saturday morning and clinics Tue and Wed mornings. Both are a mix of guests and local members and a great way to socialize and get in some exercise 3) The golf course is very unique and a lot of fun. It can get expensive if you play multiple days, but it is one of those courses that one day gives you your best round of the year and the next makes you think you should give up golf. It isn't long, but rewards you when you are playing well and can be sneaky hard when things start coming apart.

Our room was wonderful, it was an Ocean View Room which is high up on the ridge overlooking the ocean. We loved it and didn't mind the walk down to the beach, but if you want to be on the water you are going to have to pay more for a room that specifically says ocean or beachfront.

The Mermaid Beach is wonderful, staff is great, beach and water are great and the amenities are great. It can get a little louder with families or groups enjoying a few cocktails, so if you want something quieter head over to the Grotto Beach and pool.

We rented a car which made getting around much easier. We saw multiple guests struggle with getting taxis and beware there is a $50 surcharge for taxis after 9:30pm. Check the cruise ship schedule for Frederiksted and head over there when there isn't a ship in and snorkel along the pier. We saw tons of sea turtles, spotted eagle rays, sting rays and plenty of fish. You just walk in from the small beach next to the pier. Sandy Point is worth a visit if you are luck enough to be there when it is open. Definitely include a half-day trip to Buck Island.

We have never been to an island before so for our first we decided USVI St. Croix. Choosing The Buccaneer was well thought out and being #3 on the island we would try this place. So getting a education on driving on the left in a left hand drive car it was a little weird . Wife and I still were stressing when a car coming around a curve was in the right hand lane. Well we made it to Hotel and the first in counter was a smile at front gate , than a smile at the check in to the Steward who walked us through in room. This is an awesome place , we had plans to go site seeing, try other beaches go snorkeling etc . Except for 3 trips into town for food we never left the resort. Everyone there made us feel so welcome I wish I could name them all. From the ladies who take care of you at breakfast like Doris and Francis to Putrice who is the Captain at the Terrace bar . The restaurants are really good here, had an amazing Flank steak (never had a tender flank steak) amazing pork belly tacos . There is not one bad view in this place, just beautiful. Even the tap water in this place good , they filter their own water and generate their own power . Thank you all for a pleasant time!

Just a word of caution to my fellow (post pandemic) travelers! In my excitement to take a long awaited glorious vacation, It never crossed my mind that I may have to cancel multiple hotel reservations. Regrettably I did not carefully evaluate the diverse hotel cancellation policies. The Buccaneer has a fair and reasonable cancelation policy, less than seven days and you lose your deposit. When you book a reservation directly with the hotel, you are usually given more favorable terms. (5 days) Only one hotel on the island of Saint Croix enforced a 14 day cancellation policy, regardless of how many nights I reserved, they charged for each and every night. Be vigilant and enjoy your vacation.

This was my first visit to St Croix, and we stayed at the Buccaneer Resort. Upon arrival we were greeted with a welcome rum drink. We booked our trip as part of a vacation package and luckily, I visited the company's webpage and read thru all of the information before our trip. There was a deposit per person for each night which can rack up quickly for an extended stay.
They offered a huge assortment of meats, fruits, and other options for the breakfast buffet, which was included, you just tell them your room number.
The view of the water and the town in the distance was absolutely amazing, however I will say with the lack of rain the lawns were brown, dry, and not greatly landscaped.
Since this visit, I no longer stay in resorts or hotels but opt for villas or Vrbo locations since I bring my children and grandson with me.

My experience today at this resort was horrid to say the least. I booked what I thought was an ocean view room as advertised on Expedia's website. Im also a VIP member with Expedia so I received what I was told was an upgrade. The room is not an ocean view room. Number 1 the room is nowhere near the ocean as the photos show. The room is literally centered in the middle of the property grounds. It is behind a tennis court, restaurant, and other rooms that are closer to the ocean. The view is more of a resort view than anything. I attached pictures below. I spoke with Shevvin at the front desk who was very nice and pleasant. I asked for the manager and I was abrasively greeted by Diane Gordon the reservations manager. She was completely dismissive, combative, and accusatory. If felt very personal, I did not feel like a guest at a resort. She tried to make it seem as if I didn't know what an ocean view room is and that I was trying to get over in some kind of way. When in reality I am a travel blogger on YouTube and tik tok. I have traveled to 29 different countries doing reviews and promoting resorts. I always book ocean view rooms and I have never seen an ocean view room not situated close to the ocean. The ironic part is, I came here to celebrate my birthday and to do a YouTube review of the entire resort. My most recent content has been marketing beautiful resorts in countries outside of the United States that don't require passports. However, I have been totally taken back by this experience. I spent over an hour going back and forth with Diane and she had me call Expedia and told me that it basically isn't her problem. I was willing to even pay for an upgrade although the room was falsely advertised, until she told me it would be an additional $1700. This experience ruined my trip and I would never recommend this resort to any of my followers or subscribers. There are a lot more accommodating resorts with better customer service skills. This is not it! I have already escalated the issue to expedia and they're conducting an investigation.

My husband, adult daughter and I just returned from our first vacation to The Buccaneer. We selected the resort because of the golf course on property. The golf course did not disappoint nor did the beautiful views and multiple beaches.

We had two separate rooms in the main house which made it very convenient to enjoy the complimentary breakfast each morning after our morning workouts in the fitness center and power walks around the property. The resort is very inviting, well maintained and a relaxing environment in which to decompress. One of the finer aspects is the gracious hospitality of the staff who address you by name and truly make you feel that they appreciate you being there.

In an increasingly impersonal world, that is something worth returning for!

We've traveled all over the Caribbean, but this was our first trip to St. Croix. We stayed for 4 days and three nights at The Buccaneer and absolutely loved it.

We were greeted with delicious rum punch. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the manager, Ashton, was kind enough to give us an amazing room upgrade to a Luxury Beachside Doubloon (Room 357). The views are breathtaking! The room itself is quite spacious and has a jetted tub and separate shower and a huge walk-in closet. It also has skylights in the bathroom, which is a nice touch.

The Breakfast Buffet is complimentary for guests. There are different specialty items every day, along with the regular staples of eggs, bacon, pancakes, French toast, etc.

Eating out can get expensive, so you may want to stop at a grocery store and grab some snacks or drinks for your room or vacation rental.

You definitely need to rent a car because taxis will add up, and there's no Uber or Lyft. Plus, it'll give you time to explore the island at your own pace. If you do rent a car, they drive on the left side of the road even though it's a U.S. territory. We didn't have any issues, and you get used to it pretty quickly. The navigation app Waze works here.

We will definitely come back!

How can anyone enjoy the beach and food at the Mermaid Restaurant when we have to pay $35 for each lounge chair. I am already purchasing food which is not cheap to them pay an outrageous fee just ti sit at the beach. If you have to charge consider $10-$15.

Good morning John, We are delighted with your interest in becoming part of our Buccaneer family. The Doubloons would be the quietest and most secluded options available on property on the beach. The great house hotel suites may offer a better vantage, and comfortable reading spaces and is in the main hotel. Like the Doubloons, your balcony is also very well appointed. We ask beach visitors to use personal headsets as well so if you are outside on your Doubloons patio, this should not impact your stay. We look forward to helping you plan. Warmly, Nadia

We look forward to welcoming your family to The Buccaneer in November. At this time, we are not offering a kids’ camp program but we have various activities throughout the week that your family can participate in. Options range from snorkel & kayak tours to BINGO, ping pong and sandcastle building. The resort offers themed dinners certain evenings with local performances by Moko Jumbie stilt dancers and fire dancers. There are also crab races available at several locations around the island that are a popular event for families to join.
