Yara is an all around incredible dinning experience. The decor is modern but welcoming. The drinks at the bar are very original and great tasting. The menu is very complete with a great variety. The style is contemporary steak house with a Peruvian and Asian...More
As frequent travelers to Grand Cayman, we decided to give Margaritaville a try...we loved it! The staff were all very-friendly and attentive! The open-air lobby is spectacular! The rooms were clean, new, and well-decorated! The location is convenient! The beach was great, too! The cove...More

Having eaten in some of the most amazing steak houses around the world, i can say with full confidence that Yara is up there at the top of the list. The food, the ambiance, the service...its all exceptional.
Yara itself is a cool place with a lounge kinda theme - the signature cocktails were great and the food the best we've had on island for a long time. The staff were all very attentive and very knowledgeable.
Thoroughly recommend it, and for those...More
It is what it is, a cheap resort! Came for a drink, had drink, left. There are much better places to drink on the island. This place doesn't have any atmosphere, and the margarita's aren't all that good either.More

First, this will be the first of MANY trips to Cayman. Most of the entertainment I experienced is in the bars at night. Everything in Cayman is more expensive that what we experience, but, I believe the portions and service are consistent with the price. There are great places to eat at every level, and where you are staying, the all the choices are within walking distance. Coconut Joes is a great casual place to start, and it's right down the street from there. I would start there and solicit some suggestions from the "local" based on your preferences. We are big fans of the three restaurants in Morgan Harbor...Catch, Calypso Grill, and Osetra Bay. They are three degrees of good, with each on as you head North, more expensive and more upscale. There is entertainment there as well, and it's best to check when you get on island to see what each has planned. These places will require a cab or rental car. Deckers, which is North of where you are staying does have all you can each lobster nights, Sunday and Tuesday I think, and it's a fun place, in line with what you would expect from a all you can each place, just classier. If you want to top out, Blue, by Eric Rippert is fabulous. Bottom line is there is a marvelous selection of restaurants around where you are staying, or within a short cab/car ride.
You can email Jeff Ginther at JGinther@Caymanislands.ky, and he can give you even better details. Jeff is a Sales Rep for Cayman Islands Department of Tourism. He is located here in the states, and is very helpful with everything Cayman. Have a great time, which time is the last thing you will have enough of on this trip.

Seems to me all the resorts charge about 22-25% in what they call fees and taxes. I'm not sure they are double dipping, may just be worded incorrectly. But, I suppose if people are willing to pay the fees as you state, people must be willing to pay the double dip. I'd just make sure any additional fees and taxes are within the 22-25% zone, whatever they are called...
