Sunset House is a fantastic place to stay and dive. I would highly recommend the facility for enthusiastic divers that enjoy time above and below the waves. The onsite Bar and Restaraunt are well staffed with excellent food and drink choices. Beautiful sunsets abound. The wait and bar staff are exceptional. The rooms are clean, comfortable and spacious for a couple. The hotel staff, groundskeeping and housekeeping staff were very friendly and accomodating. Everyone greeted us with a smile.
Sunset Divers (onsite dive shop) was just flat out phenomenal. Kat, Reed, TJ, Tyler, Vee, John, et. al. were very friendly, helpful and fun. Extremely professional, safe and accommodating dive masters, dive instructors and boat captains. I do, however, have to mention two standout Dive Instructors - Shan and Jack. Shan handled my refresher course. Furthermore, he helped my wife during her final certification dives. He professionally, politely and with gentle encouragement assisted her to become more confident and safe diver. Thank you Shan! Jack was my wife's Open Water Dive Instructor. My wife had never dove before. With Jack's careful and fun encouragement my wife ultimately earned her Open Water Certificate. It was not easy and Jack made sure she deserved it. Jack is a phenomenal instructor. Thank you Jack for sticking with her! Be sure to ask for Shan or Jack if you want someone to both encourage, guide and help you through diver certification or checkout. Or if you just want to dive with a fantastic guide. Thank you again Jack and Shan! You two made our trip. Cheers!

I read the reviews before traveling and a lot mentioned how the rooms at Sunset House were “rustic”. The room I stayed in was anything but rustic. The room had updated furniture, cute setup, set of drawers for clothes storage, plenty of hangers for hanging clothes, a safe, coffee maker, tv, refrigerator, and a balcony. No microwave. AC was quiet and cool. The bathroom also looked updated and was equipped with hair dryer, an abundance of towels, shampoo/conditioner , water pressure was great. Room was spotlessly clean. Perfect!

My package included free breakfast and that was wonderful. Thank you to the guys at the restaurant who packed mine up “to go” each morning. :-)

There is also a restaurant/bar on site which serves delicious food and drink. I ate there a few afternoons. Highly recommend. The servers were very attentive and the food and drink excellent.

There is a pool on site. I did not use the pool, but did sit at the pool loungers one morning and they were comfortable. Most people who stay here are divers, but I am not. This hotel is comfortable for people who do not dive and just want to relax.

If staying at Sunset House, I suggest you rent a car, but the hotel does offer shuttle service to town and transfers to the airport. I highly recommend this hotel. Every staff member that I came in contact with during my stay was so friendly and helpful.

We stayed at Sunset for the first time a year ago and opted to come back for another week of sunshine and diving. My husband started and finished his Advanced open water certification and we went out diving everyday until the day before we left. As we remembered, the staff at the restaurant, at the bar, at the front desk and at the dive shop were wonderfully professional and accommodating. We rented a car this time around and explored the wonderful island and were constantly given tips on local favorites. A small but important note that we never had trouble finding a parking spot in the resort when we came back from our driving adventures. The diving schedule was easy to follow and the shop communicated well whenever bad weather threatened. We dove the house reef a few times and saw a bunch of things even though visibility wasn't great due to the weather. The food at the restaurant was still as amazing as I remembered it, especially the Indian menu. My "cons" are more personal preferences - wish the showers were bit upgraded, that we had ventilated drying areas for all of our wet things (oceanfront rooms have a balcony where you can hang stuff and hope it doesn't fly away but a line with clips that was open to the fresh air would be the way to go). If you stay in the rooms on the second floor towards the front the resort, do note, if you're a light and/or early sleeper, that you'll hear car/people/dog/insomniac loud roosters traffic outside your window.

Hotel was nice - room was spacious, big enough for two king beds, which were very comfortable. Our refrigerator needed de-icing so the door wouldn't stay shut. Hairdryer almost caught fire but everything else was nice. Staff were very nice as well in the hotel. The dive shop staff were superb, but with the exception of the Kittywake, the diving was just average The reef out front was interesting and we dove it twice. The weather the week we were there (end of April) was horrid though. We would sit in the restaurant and it would POUR and POUR and we could see that 7 Mile Beach was sunny. It seemed like the rainclouds literally just hovered over the hotel. Negativ big negative for me wasis Aat this hotelwass really boring. There is nothing to do anywhere near the You can walk iThere is no music or a at the barnything. Just some locals that come to the tiki bar and smoke and play dominoes or something. The entire hut was fillecigar and cigarette d with smoke most nights. nto town but there are (about 15 min. walk) no sidewalks so you have to be very careful. Town was very boring as well - nothing is open. Either we missed the mark on things to do or it's a very boring area. And everything is very expensive too. There was a lunch menu with lower prices online and when we got there, they only had the much more expensive dinner menu all day so beware of that. Plus there being nowhere else to go to eat, you're stuck paying $27 for chicken and rice and veggies. Food was good but not that good LoL.

I chose this location to learn to dive for several reasons but among them was the fact that it also ran a hotel and dive shop that was away from tourists that weren't divers. The attached restaurant has locals going for regular meals -- says a lot about the food.

The dive shop is polite, professional, and Mel runs a tight ship. She also has all the answers that you bring to her. The others, Sarah, Jack, and others are great individuals that really make the stay feel like part of the family than anything else.

The rooms are clean, cool, quiet, and the only complaint I had was the shower was not warm enough. Outside of that, for someone that is used to 5 star, first class hotels, this is an amazing find.

Susnset House Divers have excellent staff who are very helpful, very skilled and excited about diving. They are so knowledgeable about each dive site and they make every skill level of diver comfortable in any situation. They all have a great sense of humor and create a fun environment on the boat. Their boats are very clean and I am amazed at the skill of the Captains. I dove with them in the late 90's and 21 years later, they remain an excellent diving company. I highly recommend booking with them. Thank you Sunset House Divers!

Spent 8 days here. Had a great time exploring the shore dives, but the boat dives are where the real adventure is at. Phil, TJ, and V were the best crew we could ask for. They always kept a fun playful atmosphere while making sure everyone was safe and sound. My dive skills improved greatly due to thier expertise and advice. Breakfast options are somewhat limited(but it was included so cant complain there). Lunch/dinner menu has lots to offer. And the drinks are tasty.
Saw the kittiwake wreck, stingray city and lots of other great dive sites. TJ even found us a seahorse riding a whale shark! You'll see lion fish, barracudas, sea turtles, sting Rays, moray eels and lots more.

I loved my experience at Sunset house. The dive crew learned my name by the second day I dove with them. Lillia knew I wanted nitrox tanks whenever I did my afternoon shore dives. My two dive masters, Tyler and Jack were absolutely phenomenal. Every day felt like an adventure, they would come to dinner with us, give us all kinds of suggestions for things to do, interacted with us as more than just our dive masters. Each dive was clear, we knew what to expect, they avoided sites when they saw the current was too strong and would make for a subpar dive. They knew our dive habits and our abilities also probably as early as day 2 of diving. You couldn’t ask for a better dive crew or dive masters.

My son and I spent a fun 5 days at this resort on a dedicated dive trip last week. The accommodations, bar, restaurant and dive crew where just as expected after reading the many TA reviews which proved to be accurate. Just as their tag line states, this place was designed and is run “by divers for divers”.

We enjoyed daily 2 tank boat dives everyday from 8-12 noon and then spent the afternoons at the sunset house reef directly adjacent to the property fine tuning our skills. This place offers as much diving as one could want.

I’d highly recommend this place for a diving trip, however the resort offers little for non divers.

We took a PADI peak performance buoyancy lesson with sunset divers, instructor- Pablo, which was was very helpful. The dive crews on the boats were informative and helpful, especially, Tibur, who assisted me with fine tuning my weight package and provided breathing instruction which helped me take my diving skills to the next level.

We enjoyed our time there and look forward to returning.

Beach front property that is more for the Divers, although there is comfort for non-divers at the resort and a 15 minute walk to downtown. Dive shop is super and staff great. Food is very good and the rooms are clean. Beautiful pools and views are lovely, especially at sunset. Note that the dives that are offered are easy to moderate and you are with staff at all times. There is shore diving available.

Exactly what Lara said. However there was one day where the water’s surge was too rough at the dock for the boat to park. So the hotel’s shuttles drove our dive group to another dock a few minutes down the road from the hotel.

I imagine you can see the cruise ships from the resort. Are they are eyesore?
Answer from George B
Kanab, Utah11 contributions2 helpful votes
The ships dock a few miles away. Depending on the day of week and time of the year dictates the number. It's not too bad. The wife and I started diving Cayman 33 years ago, long before the ships first started coming. So we see the impact of things. On good thing is that the ships leave around 4-5pm.

I’ve stayed in 402 - a suite that has an ocean view - the patio isn’t too private but has steps out to the lawn. Your best bet is to call Kim P. Directly at (345)- 949-7111. The staff is very friendly and very accommodating and will give you the option that best meets your preference. I stayed in the upstairs “apartment” in March. Much more private balcony and a very nice view Can’t remember the room numbers in that block. There is also a downstairs apartment that has King Bed - I have booked that for a week in March 2020. If not mistaken it is the only room in the resort that has a king bed. The rate for the apartments are a little higher, but they are equipped with a complete kitchen including a full size refrigerator. We offset the additional cost of the room by stocking up at the grocery and adult beverage store. The airport shuttle will happily swing by these on your way to the resort (gratuity recommended). Just know that if your arrival date is Sunday the stores are closed. Learned that on our second trip. VERY friendly staff and an AWESOME dive operation!! Easy access to “downtown” walk or taxi. Already looking forward to my third stay at Sunset House
