Returned from a five night stay at the Ritz Reserve. Stayed in a 1BR Beachfront Suite on West Beach. I try to give a balanced review highlighting both positives and downsides. I’ll start with the end. If it's in your budget, the Ritz Carlton Reserve in Dorado is definitely worth it and I hope to be back. Property/Setting The resort is set within the Dorado development and is a stunning setting on the north of Puerto Rico. In addition to the resort, guests have access to golf and tennis that are part of the development. We played the Sugarcane course and although it was one of the lesser courses, thought it was still pretty nice. The property is about a 40-45 minute drive from San Juan and the airport, so aside from a day tour, we pretty much stayed on the property. Given its size, never felt like we were running out of places to explore. Room As I said we stayed in a 1BR beachfront suite with a plunge pool. The room was huge and literally 30 yards from the beach. Ground floor room was a little less private, but not to the level of being a problem. Access to the two pools and the beach was so good and they were never crowded, that not sure I’d splurge for the suite and plunge pool again. If you want to go that route, suggest you get the rooms on the second floor which come with rooftop pool and terrace (for even more $). Wouldn’t fret too much on East v West beach locations. West beach has better access to the beach, but both are fine. Dining Since we really didn’t venture off property that much we dined at almost all the venues. We did the Omakase sushi option one night and it was terrific. Highly recommend. We dined at COA the last night and again highly recommend. Food was excellent, service was very polished, and setting was amazing. The other restaurants were sort of average with above average price tags. Nothing awful, but not notable. There are many great options off the resort, but most require the drive back into San Juan which we just didn’t want to do. There was a good “grab and go” option at La Cocina which we did for breakfast each day and lunches on a couple of days. Quick, easy, and nice to enjoy on your patio. Pool/Beach There were two main pools and both were really nice and neither were crowded. The pool by the Check In desk is more adult oriented with more comfortable chairs, but both were nice with access to both pool and beach. Service I thought service was excellent - really five star. I read a few reviews with complaints. Haven’t stayed anywhere that “bats a thousand”, but service here was as good as I have experienced anywhere. We had a “butler” assigned to us who took care of anything we needed in terms of reservations or arrangements. Value If you are signing up to stay at any five star resort, you already know you will be paying 25-50% more for the same thing you might find back home. Not my favorite part of the experience, but sort of comes with the territory. If you are a wine drinker, get a bottle and take any leftovers back to your room. There is also a $150/day resort fee which is annoying, but more common. Also took the Old San Juan tour for $700 and very underwhelmed. Cab it in and find a self guided tour. Again, bottom line is that I’d definitely go back. It’s a magical place and if its in your budget, you won’t be disappointed.

I booked a room at this hotel on recommendation from my friend who is a native here. The rooms were beautiful and spacious, and it felt like a nice small resort. My issue was the service, which was abysmal and non-existent. I saw them give a warm welcome to most guests but they completely left us without any drink or welcome. We reached earlier than expected and our room wasn't ready. We waited in the restaurant. The kids were hungry, but the service was incredibly slow. Finally, after eating lunch, when it was time to check-in, they still didn't have the room ready. After asking them multiple times and expressing frustration, they kept saying 10 more minutes and took another full hour. For a Ritz it is unacceptable. They weren't even that busy. We finally got our rooms but realized that when we ran into issues and called them, either nobody picked up or service was very slow, the same goes for the restaurants. For the price that the hotel charges, it is just resting on the name of "Ritz" and nothing more. The premises are good, pool is good, and they had rum tasting, books, and games in the library, and a good shop, but when service is incredibly slow or they do not respond to questions or requests, nothing else matters really. They really need to up their game. I will not be staying here again especially due to their insane prices.

We are travelling the Caribbean in our boat and I am getting to our reviews. We stop in at the best hotels to play golf and see the best of the Caribbean. The Dorado Ritz is quite extraordinary. We must take note of the wonderful concierge’s we had..Carlos, Mathew you took such wonderful care of us. You have set the bar very high!

My husband and I were able to book 3 nights on property after our Ritz Carlton Yacht journey over the holidays. We were excited to experience the service that this resort is known for. Pre-arrival, I had worked with the concierge and guest experience team for dinner reservations (Positivo) and to assist with a San Juan city tour and transfer to the resort the day we left the yacht. The communication with the team in the months leading up to our arrival was great and they were very helpful in outlining our options for the tour, transportation, etc. When one arrives at the resort you truly feel like you're being taken into a private sanctuary (if not for the security protocols at the entrance alone!). The arrival area is beautiful, well orchestrated, and almost immediately you can see the crashing Atlantic behind the guest services builiding and the pool area. It is indeed gorgeous. My husband was not feeling well when we arrived and they did escalate our room to ensure we could get in ASAP. The room was not quite ready and so they offered to have us wait in Positivo with complimentary cocktails (since he wasn't feeling well I had to "endure" drinking both of them...) and within about 15 minutes the room was ready. I appreciated that quick turnaround and responsiveness. Our embajadors (i.e. Butlers) did reach out multiple times a day, morning and evening at a minimum, to check on us and to see if we needed anything including medicine for my husband. We appreciated this and they did respond well when asking for additional coffee in the room. On our last night, they did drop the ball as we had asked for the in-room welcome rum tastiing to be performed at 5 pm, prior to dinner, as we were not able to partake upon arrival due to my husband's situation. At 2 pm I was told absolutely, they would be to our room at 5 pm with the ingredients. At 5:15 I had to message asking for an update and finally at 5:30 we left the room and headed to dinner as planned. When I messaged the Embajador on duty, the response I received was a rather passive-aggressive "I'm sorry if this was an inconvenience". It's not that it was inconvenient, it's that the Embajador team dropped the ball and the communication was broken somewhere internally. We didn't ask for much and one of the only requests we had was not followed through on. In terms of meals and the onsite amenities, the quality is good and the meals were well prepared. We enjoyed Positive and the sushi and seafood. COA has a beautiful ambiance at sunset and we had a table right on the edge of the balcony overlooking the beach and waves. Overall, we were impressed but still left saying "we can mark this off the list" and do not need to return. While it's a beautiful property and you get what you pay for, which in this case it is indeed expensive, I do not like to feel as though I'm being nickle-and-dimed or being sold items at a premium just because they can. A great example is a bottle of champagne on the menu at COA. We legitimately had the exact same bottle of champagne on the Ritz Carlton Yacht the week before (and paid an upcharge to enjoy it on the yacht too) however the exact same bottle at the Dorado property was $300 more. Three Hundred. That doesn't even make sense and is quite honestly offensive. If the yacht can keep it instock and onboard and not charge that level of a premium, there is no reason that the Dorado property should need to. Repeatedly we found this playing out on the menus either at lunch or dinner and with cocktails by the pool. Again, if you're staying at this property to begin with, you're probably not pinching pennies but there were blatant signs of over pricing simply because they know they can. We do not wish to further support that kind of practice and would rather reinvest with the Ritz Carlton Yacht or other five star properties. Beautiful property. Location is gorgeous. Rooms are huge (though we did not have hot water in our outdoor shower the last day and a half we were there) and the bathrooms are amazing. We slept well and left feeling rested. But - at this price point and for this level of expected service and quality, again, we felt as though we can say we've been here but do not need to return.

I booked a spa for a boyfriends birthday and advised that this is a gift! I told multiple staff members not to present the check to him at all (as this is a gift). Although my boyfriend enjoyed the spa they still gave him the check with the price that I paid. That is very unprofessional as I advised several spa representatives not to ! I am really upset and will never again give this hotel/spa my business.

This is the place you want to go for a mental health day away from everyone. For me it was a day away from wife and kids! With the Amex FHR you get that 4pm checkout so you can have a full day to enjoy even with a one night stay. Everything was perfect. I like this place -- nice ocean and pools, bicycles to ride around, great gym, good food and excellent villas, and all just 40 minutes from an airport with tons of flights. You get the whole package here. This time even the butlers came through with fulfilling requests. Everything is running smoothly and there are various improvements being made within the community such as new pickle ball courts and golf course. You can see previous reviews of mine of this resort.

We just got back from a week long stay at the Ritz Dorado Beach, celebrating our 30 year wedding anniversary. We were blown away with every aspect of this stunning resort! We could go on and on about the extraordinary beauty of the resort, the beaches, the pool, the room…. however, it is really the people here that made our stay so unforgettable. The beautiful women at breakfast, Cristina, Tiffanny, and Nilda… we will never forget how loved you made us feel! Everyone went above and beyond to celebrate our anniversary. We had cake and wine in our room one night, champagne and strawberries on another…Even a celebration French toast for breakfast! If you are celebrating anything special, this is your place! We have been so blessed to have stayed in some of the most beautiful resorts in the world..Jade Mountain, Jumby Bay Island, many Four Seasons properties etc. We mention this as a point of reference to let travelers know that the Ritz Carlton Dorado Beach is our new favorite. We came in with a very high bar and they exceeded our expectations. We have simply never experienced this level of care and service. In our many years of travel, we have never been so celebrated. We are already planning our return to this very very special resort.

we've stayed here a few times. the rooms are first class and so are the conciercierges. the beach and pool are very nice and the spa is really really nice, though massages here aren't my favorite. the food is average and the local birds terrorize breakfast. the only real gripe here is that they didn't build any ramps so if you have a stroller you're screwed.

Ritz Carlton is a true hidden gem. The moment you pull around to check in the team of butlers is ready to greet you. It’s luxury on steroids. The entire team is trained to the highest level of perfection. I can’t find any shortcomings with any of the employees staffed in this sanctuary as I love to call it. Luna at the front reception desk is so admirable and polite. She truly made us feel like we are family. Our team of butlers- Christoper, Amarylis, Chan were so elite in the services they provided us from the beach arrangements to last minute items we needed in our room. We have stayed at a lot of luxurious hotels throughout the world. This hotel gave seven star resort Burj ul Arab a run for the money. Keep up the good work and we can’t wait to return with our kids.
