I took a day trip here while we were staying in nearby San Sebastián with family. We wanted to visit a casino nearby without having to travel all the way across the island to the more tourist areas. When we got there, parking was very unclear, but accessible. When we went towards the main entrance, it seemed you could check in towards the middle if you were staying. We went left to grab a bite to eat for lunch-restaurant was closed but the man at the bar informed us they have a lunch menu. We were led to sit outside at a plastic picnic type table overlooking the very outdated property. Food was fine and priced decently, but after reading all the reviews about cockroaches in the facility, I’m wishing we hadn’t!
Decor was outdated as if from 1970s and old. After lunch we went over to the casino side which consisted of a room of mostly broken machines, maybe a dozen or so “newer” machines and a tiny room off to the side for the dollar machines. Most were broken save for two which we played. While seated, a gentleman came over to offer us coffee or hot chocolate in a paper cup, along with a tray of hot dogs??? We were confused to say the least.
The entire place had a creepy feel to it, the staff seemed jaded and like they didn’t want to be there, and honestly it made us feel the same way.
Won’t be going back-check out foxwoods in San Juan if you want some new and updated machines and clean facilities.

Most importantly, The staff were all very nice, the room was clean and the bed was comfortable.
I went to the pool for a few minutes of sun; couldn’t get a towel because I didn’t get a wristband at check-in. No problem, let me just sit on a chair for 15 minutes and relax and make some calls. The Security guard wasn’t having it...despite showing my room key and giving my room number, she told me to go back to reception and get a wristband. When I refused, the guard was nice enough to leave me alone but I did get my wristband very politely brought to me. Back in the room for 10 minutes, and some women let’s herself in. Why? She told me that no one was supposed to be in the rooms on my side of t he floor. I assured her I was in the right spot. Anyway, the shower was hot, TV worked, and staff was helpful

Response from Debbie A, General Manager at Mayagüez Resort & Casino

Thanks Marks for your review. The safety of our guests is very important to us. When the guard noticed that you did not have the bracelet that identify you as a hotel guest, you are asked about it. In order to validate the information you offered they proceed to go to the River Pool check point and then to front desk to get the bracelet., Showing the key and saying the room number does not guarantee that the information was true. Anyways, we are glad that you besides this situation you didn't had any other inconvenience. Once again thanks for you review and your sponsorship.

Parking was not easily accesible , especially for elderly or handicap people. The “clean”shower had dry hair on drain. The bulb on the balcony was not working. The soap dispenser on the lobby was broken and soap was left on counter. Parking pass was not given at checking until we asked for it (if not, guest would have to pay every time you go out). Room had a small coffee maker, but you have to call operator to get coffee.

On the first night we checked in we had to switch rooms 3 times, first we were given the wrong room with only one bed when we paid for a double bed. Second time we found 2 roaches in the room and immediately requested to move, then the next room we found dead roaches and the bathrooms were dirty and disgusting. After finally being in a good room, the manager decided to tell us a day after we already checked in that we were gonna have to pay for each person that’s in the room which was not stated on booking online. After we had moved so many times we let the manager know about our situations that we had gone thru and he offered to give us free breakfast the next morning. The next morning when we went to get breakfast we told the server that the manager was taking care of our breakfast, he didn’t seem to believe us so he got his manager who was a different one then we had talked to before and he told us that the other manager never said that and they also told us that we booked our reservation for 4 and not 6 even tho we have shown them proof from online. Flat out this is the worst hotel I’ve ever been in and I advise you all to never stay here, this place should be shut down.

DO NOT stay here. The hotel is infested with 🪳 ROACHES. We checked in at 1:30 am we reserved two rooms with double beds when we checked in they gave us a room with a king bed for three people in each room. Which was not what I Reserved we moved to a room with double beds and it was infested with roaches. The room was dirty spider webs. The 3 time we move the room also had dead roaches , and it smells like bug spray. When speaking with the manager; he apologized. He told us he will rectified, the issue by upgrading our room & giving us free breakfast. When we ordered our breakfast & told the waiter what we were told that we had free breakfast. The waiter said he did not know anything about it. We asked for a the manager on duty Every one has a different story. They treated us as they did not like American . After all we went through by moving 3 times in one night, by the time we finally settled it was 3:40. We were exhausted and also found 3 dead roaches. The next day we asked to speak with the manager I believe his name was Robert he did not comply with what he promised to rectify this horrible situation. We should have not been charged for that first night because of all the inconvenience we went through in which is unacceptable. We also should have been moved to there brand new efficiency. But instead we were lied too; telling us it was completely booked . We also spent $ from the vending machine for cleaning supplies to clean the room. They were not clean. However the pool is the only thing that is nice & Staff especially Alayia she speaks good English & was very helpful. They also charged us for an extra person. When we booked the advertised rooms with double bed for 4 people. We only had 3 . Insane don’t do it. Stay away from this place. I’m contacting the health department in P. R. Something has to be done.

Worst hotel stay I have had in my life!!!! The room was filthy with hair on most of towels, the place was falling apart with no hot water and very muggy; there were flies stuck on the bathroom wall like if someone sprayed them with bug spray and never wiped them off, the bathroom door was very hard to open and close cause of age and worn. There is no space in the bathroom to take a shower, I had to leave the curtain open and stand sideways in the tub in order to not rub on the dirty shower curtain or the wall, rooms were definitely not disinfected regardless of current covid issues going around. They charge you for parking, pool towels, water tubes to go on the lazy river and everything you do in addition to the overpriced stay, the customer service sucks there is none; from day one checking in I talked to the front desk manager cause it was unreal on how check in was being done and he seem like he didnt care while hearing many people complian while waiting on line for over 40 minutes or so just to check in what a nightmare. There is also a parking issues very tight and crowded almost impossible to get a parking, there is only 1 elevator that fits 4 to 5 people max paid over 700 dollars for 3 nights expecting a nice resort vibe but it was not, couldn't even have family members visit unless they paid to go to the pool and were not allowed in rooms cause of hotel insurance policy according to one lady, and then when I asked another it was fine no one is on the same sheet of music, unbelievable that a resort of this size is as bad as it is, not to mention there are roaches in the restaurant bar area where we personally saw roaches walking at lunch time and overheard a lady complaining to the restaurant manager about the issue and that she would like to get her money back and leave, they kept pushing her around, telling her we cant do nothing as she kept talking from one manager to the other, the same way I did. On the other hand its okay my experience was awful and there was nothing they cared or did to make my stay pleasant, but I hope I could be of help to others before they go and have these issues. There are two buildings on this property, one property seem to be decent and the other should be closed, I could keep complaining for days on how terrible it is and how rude the staff is and how careless the management seem its sad that there is no pride in what they do and are there for just a paycheck. I have videos that I can't upload but with the pics below you should be able to get the point. Thank you for reading and hopefully your stay is better than ours

I never thought to stay in a place like this and that they allow people to stay in a place like this. We booked through a page in Puerto Rico known as Gustazos, where the offer was $412 at the Mayaguez Resort & Casino for 2 adults and 1 child for 3 days and 2 nights, nothing cheap by the way. When you arrive at the reception to check in, a fish tank with worms awaits you 🤢 which is the first sign to leave the place. Then at the check in which took forever and we were the next in line, we were waiting for more than 30 minutes and other employees who had already served other guests continued to use their cell phones and did not say next. When going up the room the door barely opened, I cut my hand with the lock when opening it. The room needs an urgent renovation or close the hotel. There is a lot of moisture on the carpet and a strong smell of dust. The ceiling with cobwebs, the sheets, curtains, towels, and carpets all dirty, broken cabinets. In the bathroom the sink did not work the drain was covered. The bathroom filter clogged with dust, the bathtub super uncomfortable, less than 2 feet wide. There is a towel board inside the bathtub 🤦‍♂️. If you need to do some computer work and you need a good Wi-Fi internet, no problem. There is no signal and we were on the top floor. There is a fridge inside the room in poor condition. The TV control did not work and the phone in the room barely heard the tone. In our friend's room there were cockroaches, in the hallway there was a leak in the ceiling that seems to have been going on for years and they don't fix it, they cut part of the carpet and placed a trash can to let the water fall. total disaster, do not stay in this place if you have respiratory problems there is a lot of humidity, but in reality do not stay in a place that is so expensive and with such bad cleaning.

I have stayed in many hotel in my life, in the US, in PR and elsewhere, and never have I had a worse experience checking in than in the Mayaguez Resort.

For starters, I arrived at 9:30pm, and there were 4 employees at the front desk but it took them 42 minutes to register 5 of 7 guests (one guest left before completing the registration, one guest wanted to validate the parking ticket). Each time a guest was registered, the employee took 10 minutes to do the paperwork and call the next person in line for registration. Preposterous!!!

I did not see a sense of urgency by the front desk employees to process efficiently the customers. They would take their sweet time clipping papers, filing papers, photocopying papers AFTER THE CLIENTS HAD LEFT. These employees really did not care for the guests. Worse service ever. Will avoid this hotel in the future and so should you.

The Hotel is not a kid friendly place you can't take anything to consume at the pool which is ridiculous....offer is two adults and two kids but kids buffet is not covered, which I paid 7 dollars for my child to consume literally a bowl of cereal . Spent one hour back an forth because first the toilet was broken and then 3 times to change code of door, and room that I ended up with fridge didn't work. Front desk worker was rude as if we we're an inconvenience. Only good thing was breakfast personnel was really nice

This was the worst experience I have had at a hotel, and we travel frequently. We live in PR, so we are not tourists. First of all, the pools are not clean or well maintained, the water is full of debris, leaves, etc, and the sides and railing are all cracked. At our room for 4 people, there were only 3 body towels, no small towels either. Most of the hotel staff was very rude to people, from reception, to restaurant, bartenders to the staff near the pool. I can only say that the workers at the pool bar were very respectful and nice. This was a stay to attend a senior prom at the hotel. They did not allow us to have our stylist into our room to do hair and makeup, which almost most hotels allow it. They charge $55.50 for your stylist to go to your paid room, supposedly for safety issues. The hotel staff had us (a few, 7 ladies) do our makeup and hair at halls and at the front desk area, which was really embarrassing and frustrating, since we paid almost $700 for only two nights., and that was a special price according to them. Our decorator, which is by now used to it, was decorating the room for the prom for almost 10 hours without air conditioning at more than 100 degrees heat. Overall, it was a very bad experience for the entire group and we had 10 rooms or more booked.
