Nestled in the heart of Old San Juan, the Decanter Hotel garners praise for its prime location and unique fusion of historic charm and modern comforts, including sought-after balconies. While many guests appreciate the cleanliness and the rooftop bar, opinions on the value and room amenities vary, with some desiring more updates and modern features.
The staff's warm service stands out, despite occasional reports of disorganization. Visitors should be mindful of potential noise and mixed experiences regarding maintenance.

Location location location! Right in the heart of old San Juan. Love this hotel. Very friendly staff and the young lady who I had a nice chat with at the front desk was very knowledgeable about old San Juan and the surrounding area. She gave us some great recommendations.
The four of us (2 couples) had two balcony suites that connected to each other and they were very spacious clean and nice King size beds. We did not know initially we had adjoining suites but we loved it. This would also be great for 2 families.
Be mindful you are in the middle of all the action so if you are a light sleeper you may have a long night Lol. But once the bars closed it was very peaceful.
Bathrooms were spacious with large showers.
This hotel also has a great roof top deck and and bar and they serve food. Drinks were very good.
We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it.

Sis is allergic to mold and fragrance so this was a great choice for our Pre-cruise overnight in Old San Juan. Housekeeping did a great job, no fragrance, no mold.
This is a suite with a living room/kitchenette with a microwave, stove and refrigerator (no utensils, plates, silverware so be prepared and bring your own if you intend to cook). The LR has a sofa bed and beautiful wood shutters to open if you like fresh air. The bedroom and bath are beautiful and the location is perfect. We had a great time walking around Old San Juan and walked to the cruise terminal the next day.

The Decanter is extremely clean and very recently updated. The rooms are very spacious with high ceilings, walk in showers, and extremely centrally located in old San Juan. If you're looking for a place to stay while visiting Puerto Rico and it's in your price range, look no further it's a great value and that's coming from someone very picky about hotels :)

I loved just about everything about this hotel. The location, the staff, the quality of sleep were impeccable. Great care was taken to sterilize tv remotes and telephones, and I felt great returning from a night out in Old San Juan, to enjoy the quality of my stay. I made some recommendations to the owners of the hotel (if they choose to read my review), and perhaps they might seem petty, but small things make for a perfect hotel. I was surprised no breakfast was served, and as silly as it sounds, I was shocked that no utensils were in the kitchen, nor coffee mugs, just silly small styrofoam cups. I recall laughing at these small necessities, and even went out to buy a souvenir mug for use in my room. I know it can be blamed on Covid precautions, but mugs can be wrapped just like tv remotes and telephones, and a nice breakfast would make this hotel stellar in every way, especially when hotels of similar qualities are nearby with those attributes. I did love the roof bar, but was surprised when charges could not just be charged to your room, and that they were closed Sunday night. I would recommend this hotel, but, I would consider trying a hotel nearby with the same levels of comfort and service, and price, if I wanted to compare the overall quality of such a high caliber hotel in gorgeous Old San Juan.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our room was spacious and very comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful, especially the front desk and rooftop bar personnel. Among other things, they gave us recommendations to some great restaurants which we probably would not have found on our own. The hotel is in a central location, within easy walking distance to parks and restaurants. The rooftop bar affords a lovely view of the city, and we enjoyed having a glass of wine there at the end of the day. We look forward to a return visit!

Many thanks for a wonderful, relaxing stay at The Decanter. My wife and I stayed in Suite 305 for 5 days recently. The interior was quite comfortable, high ceilings, excellent air flow and cool stone floors, the superior air conditioning was almost optional. Perhaps the true gem was the balcony, also spacious, great shade from the awning and of course those relaxing winds.
Equally, every staff member we dealt was gracious, personable and professional , they saw to all of our needs promptly. Abigail in housekeeping was always so responsive and friendly when we requested housekeeping services and would restock our towels, coffee, etc supplies. The room was spotless when we checked in .We were at the airport yesterday when I realized I left my iPad behind, I called the front desk agent who retrieved it from the room, she called me back minutes later , confirmed they still had our information and that it would
be taken care of. I called back this morning to check on the status and once again in a few minutes received a return call confirming that it was already on its way home.
So, great service from the staff, and it continued even after our stay ended.

This is a small, independent hotel with local, traditional style. My fiancé and I chose this hotel because it had a relaxed atmosphere and very small amount of guest rooms. I didn’t see any other guests until the day of check out which was nice. The location was great, right down the street from many bars including La Factoria which is a highly rated local bar. I could only give the hotel 3 stars because it wasn’t the cleanest hotel and because it is under construction. I noticed many stains on almost every wall and the living room couch and chair had stains as well. Also the roof top deck and bar is completely closed which was not mentioned on there site. This was extremely disappointing because there was nothing else to do at this hotel. The hotels website should have disclosed this information and the rooms should have been discounted for the inconvenience and the noise it caused early every morning. I wouldn’t stay here again.

My wife and I stayed here for four nights. The hotel is beautiful and is situated in a quiet area in Old San Juan but close enough to all of the attractions. The staff are pleasant and attentive and the hotel features a rooftop bar with is open each weekend starting on Thursday night.
When we arrived, we were given a very nice room but after unpacking, the staff came to the room and said a mistake was made and this was not our room. They tried to switch us to a musty room on the first floor but my wife would have been miserable. They wound up giving us their best room for one night (I think it was the Terrace Queen) and a small room off the first floor lobby/patio for the remainder of our stay. The room was quite comfortable but we could hear guests returning to the hotel at all hours, which would not work well if you are a finicky sleeper. Fortunately we didn’t mind and overall enjoyed our stay here.

We had a great stay at the Decanter Hotel. It is centrally located in Old San Juan and is within easy walking distance to everything that the Old City has to offer. (This is a huge advantage. In fact, you’ll want to walk everywhere because the city was not designed for cars and the narrow streets can be very congested.) The hotel is located in a historic building, but it was modern, very clean, and well maintained. Our suite (# 305) was very large, modern, clean, quiet, and comfortable. It had a kitchenette, a separate living room, a modern bathroom with a walk-in shower, and a very large balcony with a table and comfortable chairs. We found the room and the hotel to have very good WiFi. The staff were all very welcoming, friendly, and helpful. Someone was always there to greet you whenever you arrived, and the staff always seemed willing to help with whatever you needed to make you stay enjoyable. We enjoyed our stay and look forward to visiting again.

Hello and thank you for booking a room with us. Street parking is not available for non-residents of Old San Juan after 6pm and on weekends. Unless you park for a few hours during the day, you might have to pay a hefty fee. There are several parking lots, one in front of the hotel, by the Cathedral, operated by Hotel El Convento. The closest ones are La Cochera on Luna St and Ballaja lot. Whether you can store your surfboards or not only depends on the size of your room, since we have a variety of sizes from small to very spacious. You should call us at the hotel, we would be happy to assist you once we have your reservation details.
Hi! The hotel sells wine at very reasonable prices and there's also a supermarket in Old San Juan that carries plenty of choices. Costco is a bit far, you would probably spend more money and time just to get there. I'm sure you will find everything you need within walking distance. Enjoy!
