The rooms in the villa were very nice and comfortable. I had a room and bathroom to myself which I loved and the beds are comfortable. My complaint about staying at the villa, was you were at the mercy of a hired driver to come and get you and take you to tour the island. We had to cover the cost of gas and our transportation to and from the airport. However, the cost to and from the airport was suppose to be inclusive as well as the transportation from the villa to the island, but this changed after our arrival. Also, we were responsible for purchasing our food to carry us throughout our stay. No problem but the portions were very small and we had to go back to the store two additional times because we ran out of food. Mind you the chef attended with us and we gave the menu of what we wanted to eat for breakfast and dinner. The food was either two salty, sweet or had a twang taste. I have diabetes which I am not suppose to eat too much salt, no sugar and I did not mind the twang taste. Another issue for me was missing alcohol that we purchased and it began to slowly disappear until we took the bottles into our rooms to monitor it. After staying in the villa the first three days , things changed and the service started to not be good. The food was always cold when we got served and it was either sweet or salty never just right. I am not sure if I will visit Jamaica again due to the experience I had and the way things went.

Responded 12 Dec 2019
First I want to say thank you for staying with us. I am happy that you found the villa comfortable during your stay. I want to make sure I address your concerns in regards to your meals during your stay at the Villa. Before your arrival at the Villa, it was communicated that you would be in charge of your own grocery shopping and our chef would prepare your meals according to your instructions, dietary restrictions, and the amount of groceries purchased for each meal. The chef prepares dinners, lunch, and breakfast to be served at your specified time. If however, you arrive for meals much later than planned the staff will make every effort to keep your meals warm for your arrival. If your meal is not warm enough when you arrive the staff will reheat it at your request. Unfortunately, If you had selected to purchase your own groceries we can only cook with the amount of food provided, but you are welcome to purchase more if your party requires more. The chef was able to accompany you and your group to the grocery store on three occasions to purchase groceries for your stay, and to ensure that you had no difficulties at the market. As part of my commitment to our guests to provide the highest quality service and accommodation, I periodically travel to Jamaica during a guest's stay to monitor staff daily interactions with guests, as well as to ensure that the quality of our service is maintained. Your stay was selected for one of my quality and service checks. During my observation of my staff's service, I was fortunate to have multiple interactions with your group. I was also able to speak with you on several occasions and to see how your stay with us was going, and provide information on local tours and excursions. During our conversations, it was never communicated that there was any dissatisfaction and I was told that everything was fine. The staff is trained to understand and attend to the needs of each guest and if you require space, then you are provided that space, with no intrusion, to continue to provide a satisfactory experience. However, I did observe that the staff would regularly check-in to see if you needed anything or any assistance to ensure your needs were met and attended to. At no time did I notice or was told by any of your group members or yourself of any deficiencies in the level of service. If it had been communicated at the time I would have been happy to address any issues. The villa has a full-service bar which was available to you during your stay. I can assure you that at no point and time were my staff drinking your purchased or the bar's alcohol. I hope I have addressed all of your concerns. Please feel free to reach out to me if you would like to discuss further. Thank you

I will share some pictures to speak for us. The staff made the trip wonderful. The chef, bartender, grounds keeper and manager are a wonderful, warm and professional team. A few snags but overlooked by the personal attention and gracious service. We drank and ate the best and didn't gain much weight thanks to the freshness and healthy ingredients that flowed like a river all day into night. We paid for what we wanted and the staff managed the costs to our advantage while getting everything we wished for plus some wonderful surpises. Check these jamaican dishes served inside and out. In pics. This trip we asked for a Jamaican menu. We got Jamaican food in spades. Fresh fruit with every meal. Deserts made from scratch. Precise timing for meals per your request. Our guests continue to rave about the dinner parties the staff catered. Next time we plan to enjoy the chef's other international menus. Snag 1 of 2... no Wi-Fi in master bedroom. That made for a romantic week without electronic distractions. SNAG 2 of 2...it rained the last 2 days and the time we spent there was way too short. I advise you book 2 weeks. These snags were easilly overlooked when considering the reasonable price, Clean large well maintained home, top notch Security, warm professional Service: tailor made for us, delicious Food presented by a master chef. Drinks were extremely healthy when they had to be and as "Jamaican" when required. The bartender is more skilled than she looks. Don't let her youth fool you. The trees on the property produce some of the best mangoes, floral decorations inside and out groomed to perfection. The grounds keeper kept the pool perfect and the grounds beautiful. Thank you guys for one awesome week. We will be back soon. SOON!!!! TRIP ADVISOR LIMITED ME TO 10 PICS. GO TO THEIR WEBSITE FOR THE GOOD PICS. JM

We had the pleasure of staying at the villa recently. 3 families with 6 little ones:). 3 adults had been to Jamiaca and stayed in resorts previously and the rest of us were newbies. Staying here was a far better experience in the fact that we feel we got to experience the people and love of Jamaica in a much more initimate experience. The staff has only recently been changed so we were one of their "firsts" so I cannot speak for others experiences however ours was wonderful! While the house itself was not as pristine as the pictures (nothing major but could use paint in a few rooms, etc..), the villa is situated close to the beach and is set up nicely for groups. What made the stay especially wonderful was the hospitality of the staff. Brian the groundskeeper is a quiet but kind soul who our kiddos found fun as he showed them neat things on the beach and built an amazing bonfire on the beach for us on our last night. Adrian the bartender...a personable, outgoing and very positive hardworking guy that also was incredibly caring with the kids and great company for us adults. We will be friends for life! Jooney the sweet chef cooked us amazing Jamican meals, packed us sandwiches for excursions and was very accommodating with picky-eating kids (although even the kids couldn't resist her AMAZING jerk chicken). Herma...our housekeeper stayed on top of everything! She watched our children when we went out a few nights and continued to keep an eye on them at all times even when we were there as she braided all our girls hair, calmed any "wanderers" that couldn't sleep after bedtime, etc. Michael, our driver, was awesome! He knows EVERYBODY and amongst some of the craziest driving we've ever seen, Michael kept us safe at all times, was always punctual (and patient when we were not!) and made sure that we were taken care of wherever we went. We have all traveled a good bit to several countries and this vacation will always be one of the most memorable and relaxing. Thank you for showing us the love that Jamaica has! We WILL be back!

We want to thank you for taking the time to write your review. The staff will be very happy to hear that the service they provided met your expectations. With regards to the room, we usually repaint the villa every other year , however, due to time constraints last winter we only had time to repaint some part of the villa. I will be visiting for my quarterly maintenance updates and I will have all rooms need refreshing done before my departure. I truly do appreciate your review and look forward to your next visit. This is a gorgeous, well maintained home, the home is very clean, the staff courteous and professional, lots of amenities and amazing views of the pool, ocean and mountain. We were so happy to be able to celebrate our daughter’s graduation in this beautiful house. In fact, we were so pleased with the villa that we decided to rent again in 2016. It was the perfect family Getaway!

We had a wonderful time at the Ocean View Villa. The staff was incredible, keeping the place spotlessly clean. Millie (head of the household) was an amazing cook and kept our bellies very happy with mostly Jamaican dishes (oxtail, curry goat, fried dumplings, callaloo, lobster, rum punch, yum!). Her brown stew chicken is the best ever! But she'll make whatever you want, and is willing to try new dishes with a little instruction (for instance, French toast for breakfast). The included van and driver was great. Our driver, Steve, was a wonderful tour guide, we would just tell him what we wanted to do the next day, and he would arrange everything for us. Plus, he was a careful driver (by Jamaican standards, anyway), and I didn't fear for my life while on the road. :) The villa itself is in a small neighborhood at the top of a cliff, with a set of stairs down to the pebbly beach. You have to walk about 1 block to the top of the stairs, then climb down a long set of wide concrete steps. The beach isn't great for lounging, but there is a small stream that enters the ocean, creating a small brackish lagoon that is good for kids to swim in. The ocean has pretty good sized breakers and fairly strong current, so is only advisable for strong swimmers. Sunrise at the beach is nice though. Overall, we had a great experience, and this place is highly recommended!

This was our second trip to the ocean view villa, and it was even better than the first time. We did not have a care in the world since the staff at the villa took care of all of our needs. They were happy to accommodate any request concerning our comfort, and pleasure during our stay. The meals cooked for us were wonderful, and the cook was more than willing to accommodate special requests. during our time here, we were treated like royalty. The only bad part of this vacation was when it was time to leave, and go home. We can't wait to return next year to this little slice of paradise.

We stayed as a group of 8 at the Oceanview Villa Dec 29- Jan 5. We are seasoned travelers, and have travelled as a group to many Caribbean locations over the past 10 years with various levels of accommodations and services from 3 star to 5+. We have enjoyed each and every vacation, and we understand the level of services and accommodations that Caribbean destinations offer. This year, we decided to stay at a private Villa, and this seemed ideal, as all staff and services were to be included, with cook, private butler, housekeeping, chauffeur, wifi, magic jack (free phone), daily laundry services, all meals and drinks including alcohol, our own pool, someone to help us plan any excursions, and a private beach only 5 minutes away. We exchanged many emails with the owner prior to our trip, and she confirmed the breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus, confirmed that all food, beverages, and the other services and staff above in the ad were included. The advertisement and correspondence suggested that the staff and services provided a luxurious vacation where every need is taken care of. The reality of Oceanview Villa unfortunately did not match the advertisement or the reviews on TripAdvisor. We have discussed all of the below with the owner (and we made it clear that we expected nothing in return), and that we would be posting our honest reviews as we did not want anyone else to experience what we went through. Services: Wifi only worked in the living room. There was no magic jack or freephone, and the local phones were turned off. We had to use our own cell phones to call the chauffeur. We packed light expecting daily laundry services, and only had laundry done midway through the week when we asked if it could be done. The butler was absent except for the last three days and didn't introduce herself or speak to us, mostly sat and texted on her phone, provided no services. There was no assistance with plans or the area, queries to Millie (cook/manager) were responded to as if she didn't understand what we were asking. Towels were limited, and we often had no towels for bathing as we had to use those towels for the pool. Toilet paper was in short supply and we often were taking toilet paper from each other's washrooms. On the last day, we had 1 roll of tp (for 8 people). Televisions are not in every room as advertised. Several evenings there was no hot water for showers. The chauffeur was a wonderful person, but he lived 40 minutes away, so we often had to wait long periods if we wanted to go anywhere. Excursions didn't happen, as we discovered those destinations reserve for resort groups. The private beach that is listed as 5 minutes away is reachable by climbing stairs down a steep cliff, and is not sand, it's rocks covered in garbage and the undertow is too strong to swim. There was a man living in the bar area in our Villa (of which we were not told), so we could not use the bar or games area at all. We saw him swimming in our pool in early mornings. Loose dogs were often howling or barking outside the Villa through the night. Millie also lives in the Villa with her daughter. Food: When we arrived, Millie (cook/manager) acted as if she had never seen or heard of the menu the owner had provided to us. She said she knew nothing about it. Breakfast was two pancakes each from a box mix, and a few pieces of bacon for the whole group, along with 8 slices of a fruit (not each, for everyone). No lunches were provided at all, with the exception of our last full day when we were very forceful about being provided a lunch. Millie first said there was no food for lunch, and then said she had things to do and had to leave the Villa, so she tasked the housekeeper to make three sandwiches cut in halves and a handful of French fries (for 8 people). Dinners were usually a group meal of a very small chicken or fish, rice, and a plate with lettuce, 4 slices of tomato, and four slices of cucumber (for 8 people, not each). No condiments. No desserts. No wine served at dinner. We bought eggs and bacon ourselves so we would be served a little more food at breakfast. One loaf of bread was purchased for the entire week (for 8 people). The BBQ was broken (and looked like it had been broken for years, it had sneakers hanging on it), so no barbecued meals or traditional Jerk Chicken. Meals are served on their schedule, not yours. We made three trips to the grocery store ourselves and purchased and lived on snacks. We also started going out and paying for lunch in Ochos Rios, so we would have a lunchtime meal. Beverages: Water was available in the kitchen. For all other drinks, including pop for the 2 children, you had to go to the basement bar area where the gentleman/bartender was living. He was often sleeping by the bar, and every visit was made to be an imposition, and was very uncomfortable. Requests for drinks were met with a sigh, and opening a book to slowly write everything down. There were no options for mixed drinks, except a fruit punch. We mostly stuck to beer with the lack of options. We were never offered drinks at the pool or anywhere else. By day 3, we bought our own wine, alcohol, and mixes, and we blended our own drinks. We were told the beer was out on day 4, and we had to ask for additional to be purchased. With none of us wanting to deal with the bartender, if each adult drank 3 beer/ day, that would be stretching it. The Villa itself is a nice house, and the housekeeper keeps it clean and tidy. Ricardo does a nice job with the grounds and keeping the pool clean. Unfortunately, we would not rent a Villa in the Caribbean again after this experience. The services advertised and confirmed to us multiple times prior to our trip by the owner, were not provided at this Villa. If you are looking for a luxurious, stress-free, pampered vacation, this would not be recommended.

Responded 28 Jan 2014
Dear Guest, Because the main point of these reviews is to be as helpful as possible to future guests searching for rental properties, I’d like to take this opportunity to lend clarity to your evaluations in order to make them useful to those searching. With regard to your complaint of limited alcoholic beverages: Your group of 8 booked our all-inclusive package, which included alcohol. For your 7 night stay, we fully stocked the bars with 7 cases of Red Stripe beer, and 1 case of Heineken beer. I also purchased numerous bottles of Vodka, Gin, Rums, Wines, and Johnny Walker whiskey made available for your arrival. All-inclusives are never a science, but for most proprietors, including 2 nearby villas with which I have a relationship, the standard is to budget $250 per person/per week. Your group’s actuals came in at $375 per person. This is not an issue for us, however. Our family run villa is concerned with providing all our guests the very best experiences of our little spot of paradise in Jamaica that we possibly can. That is why I was confused by your review. During your stay I called each night to talk with my staff who reported that your group were having a wonderful time; And on 2 nights, that “They are out by the pool, eating, drinking and laughing.” Also, you left generous tips to each staff member. And, you personally gave Millicent a store-bought card inside which you wrote: “Thank you for taking such great care of us, Millicent!” before signing and enclosing not only your well-thought tip for her, but also your personal contact information. (I assumed you did so in order to keep in touch with Millicent, and perhaps correspond about best times to return to Ochi and the Villa, as many of our patrons do. This is the kind of positive response we are used to, especially when it comes to Millie.) Food: On the first morning, you and Millie sat down to create the menus for your group directly after your pre-ordered breakfast of eggs & bacon. (Your pre-ordered dinner of roasted chicken, rice & vegetables was also served 1st night.) Everything you requested was purchased fresh from local markets. Leftovers were thrown out each morning, and I personally threw out several pounds of beef and vegetables left uneaten from your group. Our butler did call-in sick for two days, during which time my brother filled in tending bar, as he has in the past. His private quarters are those of the Groundskeeper’s, who he also filled-in for due to a family emergency. I hope my responses are helpful to you and those reading them.
