The Iberostar Selection Rose Hall Suites is often celebrated for its welcoming atmosphere and family-friendly vibe, with guests enjoying the variety of entertainment options. Its location is a hit, especially for beach-goers and those planning special events like weddings. While the rooms are appreciated for their space and views, there are concerns regarding maintenance and noise. Cleanliness generally meets expectations, yet some areas could be enhanced. The hotel's amenities, including diverse dining options and well-maintained grounds, are a highlight, even as some guests suggest the need for more updates. Service experiences vary, with accolades for the staff's friendliness tempered by notes of occasional inconsistency and sluggishness. Despite these praises, a number of travelers question the hotel's value for money, pointing out high prices and aggressive sales tactics.

A luxury resort with large, comfortable rooms; extensive buffets and bars; plus amazing service -

I booked this hotel to celebrate a major milestone and while check-in took longer than I wished, I was quickly shown my room which was ocean front (all rooms are given hotel design) that was east facing to capture those sunrises. Thankfully the room oversaw the kids camp that was silent during my week -

The main buffet was closed for many nights yet I was routed to the buffets of the sister hotels which always had ample food selection - one of the most extensive selections in my tours of healthy options (especially at breakfast - granola, juice bar, fruits, etc.) plus salad bars, vegan and ethnic options. I only tried the steak a la carte and had a perfectly cooked (large, US portion) steak while gazing at the sea and delicious sides. The pineapple carpaccio was a go back for item!

The beach was clean and at this time of year, nothing was overly crowded. The added joy of drink service on the beach plus a "food truck" with daily jerk chicken and fries was a hit. Special shout-out to Doreen at the swim up bar for excellent drinks and a mean bloody mary! Lots of entertainment around yet I went for sun and relaxation -

The Iberostar is one of the better choices in Montego Bay for value, family travelers. It offers many of the trappings of a full luxury experience, sacrificing some hallmarks of perfection to achieve a better price point. It aspires to a five star experience, and while it doesn't always live up to that standard, it hits all the most important fundamentals.

The suites offer larger rooms that comfortably accommodate a family of 4, including if you need a crib. Plenty of storage, large balconies, huge bathtub, and nice new TVs. Nice touches in the room include a built-in Google Chromecast on the TV, which is a livesaver if you need to distract little kids, a drying rack on the balcony, and some extra storage space in the minibar fridge. There's also an extra, heavy door that separates the sleeping area from the hallway. This is great for keeping out noises from rowdy guests (which you will definitely encounter if you travel during Spring Break or probably many USA school holidays). With both doors closed and a white noise machine, even light sleepers should be just fine. We had small children in both adjacent rooms and never had any noise complaints - the walls are also well-insulating. Also assisting with getting good sleep (and in particular good daytime naps for kiddos) was the outstanding blackout shades in the room. Three layers of drapes, all with cross overhang (so they more than meet in the middle) kept out every speck of daylight when closed. They were among the most effective and attractive floor-to-ceiling hotel window treatments I have ever used.

The low point on the in-room amenities is the bath products. They're acceptable and get the job done but not luxury by any means. Scents could be better and the detangling properties of the conditioner are lacking. Consider bringing your own hair conditioner. We also did have a bit of hot water problems but only during the times of peak demand (7-9 AM). Outside of those hours it was always fine. And water pressure in the showers and bath was always excellent, even better than at home.

The housekeeping was very good (note that we did leave a daily gratuity, this is suggested for optimal service). Generally, the room was completely clean and orderly. There were a couple out-of-the-way spaces that had not been dusted in a very long time, like the floor under the shelves where we threw our shoes, and the very top shelf which I don't think any of the housekeeping staff could reach without a step stool. In general, however, the in-room cleanliness met my standards and exceeded my expectations. We got daily towel animals on the bed which was a nice touch. Our housekeeper accommodated our requests for extra towels and an extra linens change after our son had a nighttime accident. She was flexible with our schedule.

Cleanliness in the public areas of the hotel was also good. Floors were routinely cleaned, and the intrusion of beach sand into the upkept areas was kept to an absolute minimum. Resort cups and utensils were collected on a constant basis throughout the day (though there was one beer can in a random hallway in the suites that did hang out inexplicably for a few days, this was an outlier). The pools were skimmed and treated and look just as nice as in the promotional photos, crystal clear. The restaurant areas were all impeccably clean and should exceed anyone's standards. I do wish the outdoor public areas had more trash cans. There's only a few, which led to both me having to walk over to them, and to less respectful guests simply leaving their trash behind for the staff to pick up.

As far as the public resort areas go, they were nice overall but we had a few complaints. The palapas on the beach and umbrella areas around the pool are awesome. Well-designed and comfortable and picturesque. Enough tables to hold your drinks and such. The lounge chairs are in good working order. However, there is a major problem with using them and it was easily our biggest complaint about this property overall. It's basically "the cruise ship problem". There simply are not enough chairs. And if you want shaded seating, you better be a super early bird. Not long after 7 AM the best spots start to be claimed, mostly just by resort towels with no one in sight. By 7:30 AM the shaded spots for the morning are basically gone. If you arrive much after 8 AM you're basically out of luck for getting a lounge chair on that beach day, they're all gone. You can try going next door to the Rose Hall Beach part of the resort, we had a bit more luck there, but it's a bit of a trek and there's no guarantee. So on your vacation you either have to get up super early, walk to the next hotel and pray, or just cast your towel onto the sand and slop on the sunscreen. For us this was incredibly frustrating, mostly because the chairs weren't claimed by people actually using them, but instead by towels, sandals, hats, or bottles of sunscreen. The number of people in the pool or beach area never remotely approached the total number of claimed chairs - people just put down a towel and went to breakfast or activities or whatever and denied others the opportunity to use them. This is mostly a knock on the rudeness of the other guests, but the hotel should follow the cruise lines' example and start setting time limits or other reservation policies so that a towel and pair of sandals doesn't occupy a chair for hours on end while hapless guests can't find a single place to sit down or escape the Caribbean Sun. This would have made our visit much better.

Continuing on with the public areas, one attraction we were really looking forward to was the lazy river. It is indeed as attractive and clean as the photos suggest, but unfortunately it is the laziest river you could have. As in, there is no motion or current whatsoever inside of it. I'm not sure if the pumps were broken or if it was designed this way where you just sort of paddle yourself along, but it's not what I was expecting. Our family got in, floated in place for a bit, tried a few different spots to see if we could find the currents, and then gave up. I watched as other families did the same. It's basically just a whimsically shaped, shallow swimming pool. I asked a staff member which direction it was supposed to flow and he pointed for me. But then there was a bit of wind and I went the other way. The kids were mildly disappointed at this.

The beach itself was good for playing in the sand, swimming or wading, volleyball, and at least one wedding while we were there. Someone was tasked with raking it every morning, but at least half of the days we were there they didn't actually finish the job; leaving behind raked up piles of detritus and debris. At least you wouldn't step on it but of course it made the beach less attractive. The water in the demarcated swimming area of the beach is not rock picked, so you do need to wear water shoes or something when you venture out there. It's cooler in the morning of course but by late afternoon it's quite warm and you can just jump right in. There's a pair of swings on the beach engineered for perfect couples' beach photos, particularly at sunset. But our little kids love swings so we ended up using them a lot too (just be careful, they're not really made for kids, ours fell off a couple of times but they were fine).

Beware in the ocean and pool areas that the lifeguards are not all that attentive. Virtually every time I saw them they were either on their phones, talking with other people, or handling some other task. Granted, the pools aren't all that deep and no one is doing laps, but there are a lot of people drinking at that swim-up bar (which was great). You'll want to keep an eye on your own kids, I wouldn't trust the lifeguards to have rapid response in an emergency.

It's a Caribbean resort, so expect construction. There is always construction. While we were there they were painting, doing concrete work, some lighting stuff, and something in the hallways poking about the ceilings with various chemicals. This is just a fact of life of running a well-maintained Caribbean resort and the alternative (a crappy, run-down, filthy resort) is much worse. Just accept this reality and ignore it. You wouldn't avoid it anywhere at any expense.

We only went to a couple of the 9 PM "main shows" for the adults, but we enjoyed them. The main theater has really impressive production values. The sound system is powerful and well-placed, the stage lighting features articulated, moving elements that are used to powerful effects. Seating is spacious and comfortable. The magic show was good. If you are an aficionado of such performances as I am, then you have probably seen most or all of these tricks before. However they are well-executed and the performers are fun and engaging (and good at dealing with hecklers, we had one unfortunately). They also ran some pre-show close up magic outside, which was a nice added bonus. Definitely at least give the nighttime performances a try.

The resort's night club, on the other hand, is really only for a particular audience. And that audience is people seeking immediate and irreversible hearing damage coupled with the complete impossibility of correctly ordering a drink, and those 20-something foreign tourists wanting unprotected sex with another 20-something foreign tourist whom you cannot hear speak and you'll never see again. I did not qualify for either of these and thus quickly retreated to an alternate, and far quieter, music lounge with a bar (whose bartender was AWOL for a while but eventually returned). Thankfully, the designers were blessed with the wisdom to bury this club in a basement area where it's thumping reverberations are isolated from the more tranquil areas of the property.

The other nighttime activity offered is the small casino. I enjoyed this. I spent an hour or two in there over the trip playing blackjack or slots. I made a few friends and left up $20, so this probably contributed to my contentment. The machines are fun and they bring you drinks. Cashing out was painless. Again, don't forget your check-in coupon.

One highlight of the resort for me was the spa. Both my wife and I enjoyed 80 minute massages there. While overpriced (at around US$225 before gratuity), they were not completely out of line for what you would find at competitive resorts in the area or on a cruise. The quality of the massages was excellent, however. Great pressure and good coverage from what was clearly a well-trained and highly skilled masseuse, in both our cases. I got a sports massage and my wife got deep tissue, and we both agreed that we felt keen and limber afterward and the provider put in excellent effort and was highly attentive to our requests. There were a couple small issues during my massage - the wrong type was noted by the front desk on my request form, leading to delays which were not fully accommodated back to me in the overall time, and there were some loud noises from outside the room that were distracting. Overall though, we were both quite pleased with the spa treatments and tipped our providers accordingly (in cash, which they prefer). Don't forget your spa coupon that you are provided at check-in.

Speaking of the check-in process, this was another mixed experience. We arrived with a couple of aggravated, worn-out kids from a full day of travel so it was already a bit stressful. The front desk did a good job, but be aware that there is an entire spiel they will need to give you about the resort and amenities and towel cards, etc. It takes a minute. That is probably fine if no 4 year old is punching you in the legs. However, after check-in they will send you immediately to the concierge desks, purportedly to arrange your table service meals and other reservation activities. And in fact they do perform this function, and you should do this as soon as you can to get the optimal dining times and activity slots. However, this is not the only role the concierge plays, they will also try to sell you on a "tour". They make various offers for this including pairs of free spa treatments, and while it's not quite a hard sell on this, there's definitely some pressure here. I'm certain they get graded on or rewarded by how many "tours" they can conduct. I didn't want to spend any of my vacation getting what seemed like a timeshare presentation and I'm reasonably assertive so I just ducked out when the signup form came out. If they're offering expensive spa treatments as compensation you know it will not be brief or without further sales pitch, so I advise you to do the same.

The food was hit and miss. If you have been to any Iberostar resort in the Caribbean then you know what you're going to get at the buffet. It's roughly internationalized dishes to accommodate a variety of palettes with a bias toward Ameircans. While there was a good amount of jerk chicken, Ital stew, and boiled bananas, there was always ample cheese pizza, mac * cheese, and breakfast cereals as well. You won't have any problem feeding picky eaters, little kids, vegetarians, or anyone else at the buffet. Maybe if you're vegan and gluten free and allergic to coconut you are out of luck, but then you are kind of out of luck in life. Breakfast was a good example of the general inconsistency at the buffet. The pancakes were dry and uneven and difficult to eat, but the made-to-order breakfast sandwiches were great. You just gotta know what to pick and what to pass. As far as truly authentic Jamaican dishes though, you should really just leave the resort. Find a shack on the side of the road or something. Do whatever Anthony Bourdain did. Drinks service at the buffet was mostly good but could be slow if you needed a blended drink or milk for the kids. At least once our drink order was lost entirely and we had to flag someone down after about 20 minutes. But most trips we just got sodas and juices and it was fine.

We had a 4 night stay and therefore 2 reservations possible at the table service restaurants. We didn't get much choice here, because the best dining times are set aside for high status guests and guests at the adults-only Grand hotel next door, which comes with a higher price tag and more access. Due to the limited availability of earlier dining times that could accommodate our little kids, we went with the steakhouse and the seafood restaurant.

The low point for the food over the entire trip was the steakhouse. My wife only ordered a shrimp cocktail. She ate one shrimp and said to me "that was bad", and proceeded to spend the next 12 hours puking her guts out. She was miserable and angry. I got the ribeye, which was labeled as 12 ounces on the menu but was 16 ounces minimum and probably more. I ordered it medium rare, and while more than half of the meat did reach this temperature, the remainder was solidly rare (like it was cooked on a very unevenly heated griddle). I didn't trust and therefore did not eat the rare bits. The sides with it were fine, unremarkable. I did enjoy the chimichurri sauce that was served with it, the other ones were fine but not for me. The kids got mac and cheese and minute steak and barely touched either one, probably because it was past their bedtime at this point (earliest reservation we could get as lowly no-status suites guests) and they were freaking out. They did try and enjoy the cheese bread, though I thought it was just OK. Service at the steakhouse was the worst we experienced anywhere in the resort, despite being more than half empty. We asked for the kids' meals to be delivered first, ASAP, but it took so long that they were bundles of rage by the time the food arrived. I have no idea how to took as long as it did to undercook my steak given that no table appeared to place an order into the kitchen within 5-10 minutes of us, but it did. At least it was well-seasoned. Drink refills were the slowest in the steakhouse restaurant and the waitstaff the least attentive.

The high point for food was the seafood restaurant. We got a relatively excellent dining time of 6:30 (later than our usual dinner but at least not approaching bedtime for the kids), a great beachfront table, and an overall outstanding meal. Waitstaff was outstanding here and got every detail right and even helped entertain the children. Having cats running around the place helped a lot too, the kids loved that and threw them some fish. My wife had the whole grilled fish, described by her as "perfectly done". I am not a seafood person so I ordered my only option, the short ribs, which were outstanding. Actually the short ribs there might have been better than the steakhouse ribeye. I ate every bite. Kids enjoyed, once again, their mac & cheese. They ordered fish sticks which looked good to me but I think the cats got most or all of those.

A high point on service was the laundry. Not only was turnaround time (same day) excellent, the quality of cleaning was great too. And as a bonus they noticed that I over-charged myself in the drop-off form, and corrected my error to lower the total price. Honest, thorough, and expedient! Great job on both casual and more formal attire.

A huge selling point for us was the resort's childcare options. Namely, the free Star Camp for our 4-year-old and the option of paid babysitting services for our 2-year-old. Our son had mixed reviews about Star Camp but is himself an unreliable narrator of his opinions. He was always having fun when we saw him. For us it was great, he got to hang out, use the splash pad and water slides, do some art, and make friends with kids from different countries, languages, and backgrounds. They took the kids to the pool to meals, and to a variety of planned activities.

But the gold star for childcare goes to Tannia. TANNIA FROM GUEST SERVICES WAS AMAZING! After the guest services office couldn't find a babysitter placement for us (with about 48 hours notice), Tannia stepped up to do it herself. She's a mom of a 4 year old and our 2 year old loved hanging out with her. They had fun at the pool, had snacks, ran around, and did all sorts of stuff for the afternoon while we went into the city. She sent us photos of the good times, and even had both kids bathed and ready for dinner by the time she got back. Tannia was the best person on staff at the resort and no problem was too big or too small for her. Even when we forgot to leave her a room key she just fixed it for us. Our daughter didn't want her to leave.

Another staff highlight was our cab driver, Jadit, who took us into town that day. She seems to be employed by or contracted through the property. They use fixed, upfront pricing with no surprises or fees. She gave us a full tour for the price of a cab ride, which she was able to do at least in part because so much of the city was closed down for the Ash Wednesday holiday. She went out of our way to show us local highlights and fare, and gave us the full-on tour guide treatment. Extremely knowledgeable, very friendly, and well-connected to anything you might need (she found us an exact brand of Cuban rum I was after). Jadit is great and we strongly recommend you ask for her.

And finally, as many other reviewers have noted - the Iberostar app. It sucks. It sucks so very, very much. It sucks for reservations. It sucks for maps. It sucks for navigation (both navigating the app's interface, and navigating the resort on foot). It sucks for the logged-in experience. It sucks for the guest experience. It sucks in English and it sucks in Spanish. It sucks when it insists you download everything, and it sucks when it deletes it all again 2 minutes later. It sucks when you try to reset your password, and it sucks when you try to check your account status. It's only the smallest of stretches to suggest that the app is *completely* useless. It's only *almost completely* useless. You still need to go to the front desk or concierge for everything. The map interface is an exercise in exasperation. I am still waiting for any of the 10+ password reset emails I requested, and it's been 7 days (yes, I checked spam). The app will have you throwing your phone in the ocean and you might as well just skip it. Only open it to give it a negative rating and feedback and then close it again, maybe one day they'll just rewrite the whole thing.

In conclusion, this is a resort with 5 star aspirations. It doesn't quite get there, but it is beautiful, the staff tries very hard, and all the must-haves are on point. Many of the extras are excellent, and while our family had some complaints, we got our money's worth here. I would consider a return visit if we still have younger kids. I would not come back as a couple (but would consider the adjoining Grand).

We recently stayed at the Iberostar Selection Rose Hall Suites for a pre-Christmas getaway through a booking provided by Danialle at Beach Bum Travel. The hotel pricing seemed to be a little inflated due to the holidays approaching, but we found the price reasonable. We stayed in a junior suite which has two double beds and pull out couch and a balcony. The room accommodations were spacious and had ample drawer and closet space. The bathroom also had both a shower and tub (that you often don't find in Caribbean hotels). We were able to get reservations at the Italian and Surf and Turf restaurants. Both were fine, but nothing to brag about. The food at the buffet was generally pretty good with the Jamaican selections being very good. The entertainment team is good, but evening entertainment is lacking. I've never stayed at a Caribbean inclusive that doesn't have nightly shows. However, the bingo and trivia in the lounge was fun for after dinner activities. The beach was nice and clean, but service was sporadic and kind fo slow. The hotel overall is nice, but dated and they need a different mechanism to make dinner reservations as the concierges couldn't even get us reservations before 8 pm. The Star Club (kids club) entertained my 6 year old and the staff are great there.

We stayed at this resort in July for a wedding, and our experience was horrible. We arrived at the wedding party, and from the moment we checked in, there was no overview of the amenities. We were told to find everything on the app. They also tried to get us to attend a “breakfast” at their higher-end section of the resort, claiming it wasn’t a timeshare meeting but merely a chance to show us around. However, when we declined the friendly attitude of the “guest service” rep changed.

Throughout the week, we noticed that the staff was not friendly; often, they wouldn’t make eye contact or even speak to us. Often it would be something as simple as us asking politely for a coffee cup for breakfast and they would just walk away, grab a mug return with it sit it down, and then walk away with no words spoken.

The air conditioning in the hotel broke down for a day and a half, and they offered no solutions, displaying an attitude of indifference. We frequently missed housekeeping service, and on the day before we left, we spotted the housekeeper in our room after 5 PM. When we offered to leave and come back later, she tracked us down in the hallway and insinuated she was off the following day. She asked if we liked how she had been cleaning our room, which came across as her asking for a tip. My husband ended up tipping her, and then she walked away.

On our floor, there was a leak in the ceiling, and their solution was simply to place a bucket underneath it. Consequently, for the whole week, there was a bucket in the middle of the hallway.

Moreover, we often saw security personnel hiding on our floor. They frequently positioned themselves on window sills, watching TV since our floor wasn't busy and was closer to the end.

The hotel itself needs repairs and a thorough cleaning. It is advertised as a 5-star hotel, and I have no idea how that is even possible. Everything seemed old and outdated, especially the rooms and bathrooms, and the only set of elevators had holes and cracks throughout.

The food was just okay, with only buffet service available in the morning. Room service ends at 10 PM, and breakfast is not offered through room service.

The pool area is nice, but guests receive only one towel per person via a card. If you lose the card or if the towel gets taken, there is a $25 fee. The pool bar was average, but they often served certain people ahead of others. My husband would wait 10-15 minutes for a drink while watching others get served immediately.

Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, and I definitely won't return. The old, outdated building and rude staff made our stay disappointing, and the fact that we couldn’t wait to leave speaks volumes.

I recently stayed at the Iberostar Selection Rose Hall Suites Resort and had a mixed experience. Here’s a breakdown of my stay:

Positives
• Rooms: The rooms were clean, spacious, and well-maintained. The mini-bar was stocked with beer, sodas, and juice, which was a nice touch.
• Property: The resort itself was beautiful, with manicured grounds and plenty of space to lounge. It wasn’t crowded, which made it feel relaxing and peaceful.
• Staff Highlights:
• Front Desk: Obrian was welcoming and efficient during check-in.
• Bellman: Honray (a middle-aged gentleman in long white socks) was phenomenal, ensuring our bags were handled smoothly.
• Breakfast Buffet Staff: Special thanks to Jimmy and Kevorn for their friendly and attentive service.
• Hibachi Restaurant: Romaine delivered excellent service during our dinner.
• Lobster and Steak Restaurant: A young server from Manchester who worked on December 12 was attentive and polite.
• Food: While the buffet lacked variety, the food provided was tasty overall.

Negatives
• Lobby: The design of the lobby is outdated and lacks aesthetic appeal. A redesign could greatly enhance the first impression of the resort.
• Eco-Friendly Amenities: While the eco-friendly initiative of using glass bottles is commendable, the dispensers on the first floor didn’t work, and the ice machine was also out of order. This inconvenience detracted from the experience.
• Buffet Service: The servers at the buffet were not proactive. Despite the low guest count, we often finished meals without being offered water or juice unless we explicitly called for assistance.
• Jerk Hut Experience:
This was the most disappointing aspect of the stay and significantly impacted our overall experience:
• On December 12, the two young ladies working at the Jerk Hut were rude, dismissive, and more focused on discussing a staff party than attending to guests. The food, though well-cooked, was cold, and the service made us feel like an inconvenience.
• On December 13, a male staff member at the Jerk Hut was equally rude, dismissing our questions about obtaining hot fries with an unhelpful response. We left without ordering.
• When we visited the Jerk Hut at Wave later that day, the young lady there also displayed poor attitude and customer service.
• Across all our visits, the Jerk Hut staff were inattentive, unfriendly, and unprofessional. This was a significant letdown and single-handedly ruined our stay.

While the resort has its positives, particularly in terms of property, room cleanliness, and select staff members who provided exceptional service, the poor customer service—particularly at the Jerk Hut—overshadowed the experience. The lack of proactive service, unfriendly attitudes, and rude interactions at the Jerk Hut make it difficult to recommend this resort.

There are other resorts in Jamaica with far superior service quality, and I do not plan on returning to Iberostar Selection Rose Hall Suites Resort.

We have stayed at the Iberostar suites for over 10 years every Christmas/New Years and have seen a significant drop off this time around.

First, we went to the statehouse and (I kid you not) there was raw sewage flowing in the dining area. After smelling it for 10 minutes, we looked behind my wife’s chair and saw water everywhere. When we took a whiff in, we realized the smell was coming from the water. There were about 100 people dining there outside and they didn’t tell anyone. They moved is inside, and we could continue to smell the sewage.

Second, the next night we were awoken by what sounded like a train running outside our bedroom room. At 12 am no less. When I looked outside, I could see it was a sewage tanker truck next to the steakhouse, which was close to our room. It was incredibly loud. After about 2 hours of listening to it, unable to go to sleep as it idled loudly outside, I called to the front desk to ask them how much longer it was go on. They don’t know. I then went to the front desk to ask someone, and there was another dad there complaining about it: we asked the guy at the front desk to talk to the manager and he said there wasn’t one. This was unbelievable! At a place this large with thousands of people staying at it; there wasn’t a night manager available. Either the guy was lying to me or this place is insane.

Third, the housekeepers failed to clean our room one day. And if you’ve ever been to a beach, having a room with sand on the floor and the like is not fun. When we got back to our room at 4:30 and called the front desk to ask why our room wasn’t cleaned, they said they would send someone up. I told them that the cleaner couldn’t come then because we were all coming back from the beach and needed to clean up for dinner. I said them to send the cleaner at 6 when we would be at dinner. They said ok. Of course, when we came back from dinner our place was still not cleaned.

Fourth, we have found the service to not be as good as previous years. This place used to make sure your glass was never empty. Not this year.

Fifth, they don’t let you make reservations for dinner. So basically it’s a free for all at the restaurants.

I could go on. But I have to say that we are not staying here again.

The building and grounds are beautiful. The food is good for an all inclusive. We enjoyed the hibachi and the Greek restaurants. The service in the restaurants was very good and on par with other Iberostar resorts we've stayed in Mexico. The cleaning service (the woman I had) was exceptionally good and better than we've experienced in Mexico. That is a strong statement as Mexico tends to be the best at the all-inclusive experience.

Now for the bad. Although the pool is beautiful the pool water was a bit cloudy and filled with particulate likely from all of the people in the pool. I suspect if we did a sampling it would be filled with bacteria and fecal matter. I know it is end of July/beginning of August but management needs to shock the heck out of the pools to keep it sanitary.

Is the upgrade with it to the Suites? Given that the bar service, the activities, and the fact that the Beach side has an ice cream shop I would say emphatically that it is not worth the approximate $450 per person upgrade for a week's stay. For instance, the Suites pool bar and restaurants DID NOT have Coca Cola. Additionally, and I don't know if this was just the IB in Rose Hall Suites but there is now a cost for Jack Daniel's and the pool bar didn't carry even Jim Beam. I mean. Come on. My nephew paid $499 for a week and had the same quality of alcohol. This is unacceptable.

The beach is nothing to write home about. It is much better in Negril. You could get into the water but there were sea lice that bit us.

As for the restaurants, good luck getting a reservation. The concierges have limited power. I even tipped one quite a high amount and they still couldn't get us int. Mind you the hotel was about 50% occupied so having such difficulty is completely unacceptable.

This is a once and done stay for us. We have stayed at the IB Paraiso Maya three times before and had a much easier time with the reservations an the quality of drink was far superior. However, I am now reluctant to stay at another Iberostar considering that each year over the past decade their quality has diminished.

I took my two daughters ages 2 and 4 to Iberostar Selection Aug 13 2024
There were three resorts they called them Grand, Suites and Beach

We stayed at the Suites which gave us full access to the Suites and Beach Hotels Properties and Amenities

The resort was under going major construction and they did a good job of redirecting everything so it was minimal impact to guests

The resort itself although a little out dated (hence the renovations ) was quite beautiful and well kept

The pools were nice and so were the beaches

The lazy river was a bit of a disappointment it was only half full and the resort provided no floats for the lazy river.
They easily could have put 8-10 floats out for kids which would cost barely anything to the resort but would make a big difference for the kids.

The Star Canp was really cool my daughters loved it, my older daughter was old enough to be signed it to camp
Although we didn’t take advantage of that, everytime they saw her they encouraged her to come join the other kids.

To give credit where it’s due, the Star Camp staff were so sweet to the kids, so lovely, and definitely made up for the poor customer service you received everywhere else.

Kimberly and Rebecca were so great !
….

I had several issues with the staff being rude and dismissive.

I asked a female resort employee where the bathroom was she looked at me and said I don’t know and went on her phone

I paid extra to do a character breakfast the one morning run through star camp

The room had no air conditioning, it was 9am my daughters were hungry as sweating.

A server came by and I asked if the girls could please get some milk while we were waiting for breakfast to start
She got in my face and said “one second maam can you not wait “she was very angry and embarrassed me to be honest
The star camp staff could tell she offended me and assigned a new server to serve us and promptly apologized

Those are just a couple examples they are at minimum 10 more like that

A male server at a restaurant was hitting on me in front of my children asking me where children's father was and if he could get my number . Then proceeded to tell my friend that she was “big”
When I told him that wasn’t nice he doubled down and said it’s the truth

I will say my daughters had a great time at a family resort which was the ultimate goal however the service we received was off putting and surprising

The other thing that surprised me was I saw arguments happening almost daily

Sometimes resort staff and guests were arguing

The employee hosting the Jamaica trivia night was being so rude the audience because of lack of participation he seemed miserable to be hosting

I don’t understand why the staff is so mean to the guests
We’ve saved our money all year to be there and there is this vibe that they’re annoyed with the guests
It was odd

We had a very nice gentleman check us in and say hi throughout our trip and continue to check in

This was our first time traveling to Jamaica. Myself my husband and our 11 and 12 year old.
-traveling during canadian March break and American spring break we got lucky that club mobay was booked up but we didn't need it. Maybe early flight but arrival went relatively quick
Used RGS travel for private airport transfer and I'd highly recommend that
Resort is only 20 minutes from the airport
Upon arriving no line up for check in. They tried to upsell us an upgrade for partial ocean view but then ended up giving it to us and oh boy our room was amazing! 4th floor and we were able to see the sunrise
Staff were so friendly! Shout out to Kiki, Vanessa, dwayana can't remember everyone's name but the entertainment staff were amazing energy and so kind and respectful. The lady at the bar outside the pool was hustling all day. The food truck staff and star camp staff were all amazing
The resort itself is clean, beautiful, easy to get to the beach
The pools are clean and never felt crowded
Was always able to get a chair at the pool or beach
Activities at the beach included volleyball, games, snorkeling, paddle board and kayak
We paid extra for scuba diving at the dive center and it was so worth it (look into booking ahead online to save or bring cash us for a discount).
Buffet was the best food we've had very tasty and lots of options. A la Cartes weren't the best
Loved that we could access the beach resort we tried their Buffet one night and it was good. We visited the ice cream bar every evening
Bring water shoes because the beach does have sargassum but that didn't stop us from enjoying.
We used RGS travel for our excursion to dunns river and blue hole.

All in all we can't go anywhere else this place was amazing. Keep in mind when reading reviews people will complain about anything. Sure there was small mishaps and small nuisances but nothing major to ruin our trip

Also there is an amazing spa. They will give you rmt receipt so you can claim it back home under insurance and you have access to their hydrotherapy facilities sauna and steam room..

Beautiful resort with great staff. Stayed in the "Suites" section because the Grand was apparently booked up but somehow paid the same price which seemed odd. The resort is not huge so it is easy enough to learn your way around. I was concerned the main pool was too small and would be overcrowded but this was not the case although we were told the resort was only half full on the day we arrived but it did get busier as the week progressed. There was plenty of loungers on the beach as well. Our favourite restaurant was the Lobster and Steak spot. The steaks were amazing and the beachfront dining added a nice caribbean vibe. Unfortunately the day we arrived they stopped taking reservations at the restaurants and on 3 nights we waited over an hour to get in to eat which is unacceptable. This definitely took away from our experience here. The worst spot was the Asian. It was so incredibly loud inside that I had to go to my room to get earplugs. The food was good though. The Greek restaurant was forgettable and the Italian was probably my second choice after the steak. There were some service issues in the restaurants but not enough to ruin the trip. The buffet was actually one of the best places to eat. Great food and great service there. The rooms were very nice and our beachfront balcony was huge. Staff were constantly cleaning everywhere on the property. There wasn't a ton of entertainment variety which was a bit disappointing. Karaoke and Couple question games are cheap forms of entertainment for the resort. There were live performances in the lobby lounge each night for a few hours that consisted of solo musicians which was nice but I would have liked to see a live band at least on one evening during the week. Overall the resort is very nice and the staff were excellent which definitely added to our experience. Kudos to them.

There was no need to reserve any restaurants. You could walk up to them all. The longest wait we had was about 10 minutes.
