The website description of the room we stayed in is completely misleading. It stated the size of the room is 1600 sq feet when the actual size was 800 sq feet like all regular rooms. Counting the terrace in the size of the room is wrong.

One of the best experiences in hotel amenities. We had a beach front with swimming pool room and the stay was awesome! The entire resort was updated, and it shines. The stay was truly 5-star, room service was great, mini-bar and alcohol was premium! The restaurant staff could use some training, as we waited a bit too long (75 minutes!) for our a-la-carte dinner to be served. Super-friendly staff!

We stayed with a group of friends that recommended Finest based on their experience at the Playa Mujeres resort. This resort looks amazing, well kept with a great beach. The grounds being new look fantastic as well. Not everything at the resort was fully open. The buffet was only open for breakfast, which forced all the guests to go to the various restaurants for lunch and dinner. The food at the restaurants was good, but service be damned. Lots of the orders were either wrong or took way too long to be brought to the table. Other guests were having similar issues. We did provide feedback to Pedro (the assistant GM) and the team tried to make it up by setting up a private dinner with the exec chef. Ultimately the issue with service at the restaurant revolved around the fact that the buffet was not open and the staff at the restaurants couldn't manage the volume of orders from all the guests. Once the buffet opens for both lunch and dinner service, I think the overall experience will improve. The highlight of the resort I would say was the entertainment and the entertainment staff from Bryan, Reyini (Queen), and Oniel. Always super friendly and willing to get the resort going. Great energy and people. Overall, I'm not sure if I'd go back to this resort, I would likely try the Playa Mujeres before formulating a final opinion on the Finest/Excellence brand.

I see people comparing a resort only opened two months to more established Excellence properties that have been open for years and I think it's ridiculous to expect everything to be on par. First of all you booked a brand new resort during it's soft opening with rates that reflects this. If you wanted guaranteed perfection then don't book a new resort, even though I have seen reviews that food and service are not up to standard at the other resorts either. Now to my experience, I had a great time. I stayed 6 nights, in a rooftop terrace suite in Excellence club. The rooms and entire resort is gorgeous, everything is brand new. The RTT had a great view of the pool and ocean, large living space, walk in closet, bathroom area with privacy/door and the plunge pool is perfect. I had no issues with wait time at the restaurants, I had some great meals at Dommo, Dukes and Gusto, the club restaurants were especially good. Room service was poor as in they almost always got the order incorrect, sending too much food when I said for one or sending food with items missing ( no pita bread for the hummus for eg.) I didn't have a bad meal but items missing at poolside service was another issue, food truck tacos were good as well. The Dominican buffet for lunch has the most "Caribbean" type food it was actually enjoyable though pretty busy. I don't understand the person below who said the beach was tiny, you can literally walk for miles in either direction along the beach. There was se seaweed a few days , the staff cleaned it up all during the day. There were also a few clear days. The beach was very windy, waves were rolling but people still got in the water . The pools here are great, with a main pool and two club pools all with swimup bars. Beach and pool service in club, were good, not overly attentive as at Excellence Playa Mujeres but they did come around several times to bring drinks and you could order food. Overall service was good, I am really not the type of traveler who is comfortable with all the overlay attentive service, take care of me then leave me alone. But I did see the staff getting towels, making up loungers/beds for those who couldn't do this themselves. Overall you will have a great time unless you are expecting perfection, if so book and go to a resort that has been opened for years.

We have stayed at Excellence Playa Mejures and Finest Playa Mejures and loved it. So when we heard there was a new Finest resort in Punta Cana we immediately booked a trip but we’re extremely disappointed that this resort did not compare to its sister resorts. Upon check-in, we were casually told that the room we had booked was not available for the night and that we would be staying in a downgraded room. This is after doing the online checkin which is useless because you still have to get to the resort, wait a good 20-25 mins and provide all the info again. We were obviously upset and after quite some time going back and forth we were told they would “try to” offer a complimentary massage and the our room would be ready the following day. The next day we didn’t move into our originally booked room at 5pm (even though we were told 3pm) and this was after my husband literally waited in the finest reception area for an hour. We did eventually get a complimentary massage but the back and forth ruined 1.5 days of vacation time. The assistant manager Marcus was very courteous but the resort has so many issues that it’s difficult to move past it all. Pretty much every other person checking in while we were there had some issue. Finest club at this resort is kind of useless. You wait longer to check-in. The other excellence resorts allow club members to make restaurant reservations at 3pm. Here it is only offered for restaurants offering cooking shows. Speaking of restaurants. There is always a wait unless you’re dining at 9-10pm! We waited about 40 mins to be seated at melting pot our first night and 1.5 hours to be seated at Dukes. Then there is usually a 35 min wait before any food is served. The worst part is probably that most of the meals are not even worth the wait. Melting pot and Lizo are terrible. Dukes, Gusto and Dommo are decent. Insieme was hit or miss. The lunch options are terrible. We tried Brass for lunch and didn’t like a single thing, didn’t bother going back for dinner. The buffet never had anything good. Las dunas was aweful and room service food was no better. We have a toddler so needed our room made up before 2pm and turndown service before 8pm. I literally called everyday to make sure this was done and there was only one day that things actually got done on time. Most nights we had to ask them not to do turn down service because they would be too late. One of the times housekeeping cleaned our room while our son was napping and obviously woke him up. We booked the finest club family suite with private pool. I had called customer service prior to arrival and was told the private pool can be heated upon request. Asked several times and this was not done. Otherwise rooms were new with modern decor. The resort itself is beautiful. The beach is tiny and full of seaweed. I remember at Excellence playa mejures they would constantly have a truck cleaning the seaweed, this was never done at Punta Cana. Our son is 2.5 so he did not attend the kids club. We asked if we could accompany him while he played indoors and we’re told we couldn’t (we were allowed to do this at the playa mejures location). It looked like the kids were enjoying themselves from what I could tell. I think most staff members were pleasant but some lacked experience and others were overwhelmed. We did receive consistent and exceptional service at Dommo from Elvis. We booked a photo session which was a huge mistake. Now this is not reflective of the resort as it’s technically a third party but just added to our frustration. I am currently pregnant and was looking forward to a family maternity shoot. Our appointment time was for 5pm. No one met us at the meeting point. After having reception call them, we were told to wait as another couple were picking our pictures. At 5:30pm I reminded the photographer that sunset is at 5:55pm and we wouldn’t have any sunlight but the photographer kept staling. We finally got to the beach at 5:45pm at which time we were told he was waiting for his colleague, couldn’t start taking pictures as he didn’t have a memory card. We took some pictures in the dark and they obviously didn’t turn out good. The next day when we went to look at our pictures we overheard another family complaining as they had been waiting for an hour to start their shoot. Overall very disappointed by this resort especially knowing how well their sister resorts are run.
