Secrets Royal Beach Punta Cana is lauded for its excellent service, with staff members earning recognition for their friendly and professional manner. The resort's cleanliness and comprehensive amenities, including various pools and beach access, are also highly praised. While the atmosphere is described as lively, some guests suggest a need for quieter spaces. The hotel enjoys a favorable location, yet opinions on the value are mixed, with some travelers feeling underwhelmed due to upselling and hidden costs. Our stay was the first week of February. Secrets is part of a 3 resort complex, Secrets, Now Larimar, and Now Garden. When staying a Secrets one has access to the other two resorts. Spa, gym, and some of the restaurants are located on the Now properties, access is easy. I feel the best part of Secrets Royal Beach is the beach; very wide, white powder sand, no rocky areas, smooth gentle sloping water, swells are broken up by reef 1/4 mile from shore, only small waves make it to shore. We did not really use the pools but they seemed nice, swim up bar with pool activities if you were so inclined, and if you wanted a quite area at the pool you could have that also. We have visited many of the AM resort properties in both Mexico and Dominican Republic and there is one great constant: The employees are great! Many speak English, all will greet you with a "Hola" and a smile. The attitude of the staff seems to say "thank you for coming to my resort and how can I make your stay more enjoyable". We enjoyed all the restaurants food was good, service good, we have learned to dine early, if you like to eat late you may have a wait, we did notice people waiting to get in as we were leaving. Our room was nice, rooms are very quite, the sliding glass door was heavy and kept out the noise. Housekeeping was efficient and timely. If you want a resort with no kids, great beach, friendly staff, and good food, Secrets Royal Beach Punta Cana will be a good choice,

We stayed in a Junior Suite "Swim up" by the large garden swimming pool , a perfect choice for us ! we enjoyed long swims and were close to the beach and restaurants. Everything was very well organised , the location is ideal for long walks on the beach , there are plenty of lounge chairs available in shaded beach areas. The entire staff is very helpful and smiling , various restaurants offer a diversified food of very good quality. The Secrets Royal Beach "adults only" has all the qualities for a pleasant and relaxing vacation in Punta Cana.

Let me start off by saying Secrets Grand Resort met all of our expectations, We've been to other all inclusives and this one was one of the best. We opted not to go the preferred package as we wanted to see if we thought the service and hospitality were still there, it was. The grounds are very well kept and pretty with plenty of nice green plants and trees, The grounds people are always working to make sure its as pristine as possible even until late in the evening. House keeping was also top notch we always had towels and the fridge was restocked daily with water, juice, beer. House keeping was done everyday around noon or so. Just a tip the turn down service which is very nice was kind of late for us, we got back to our room at about 9.30 pm and they were just getting there, so we just put out the quite sign when we would go to dinner, turn down service is a nice touch though...We thought all the food was good it just depends what your familiar with some of it can get pretty exotic. We ate at the Oceanaire we had the steak which was done perfectly,There were about 4 items to choose from.there are also starters and soups to choose from.. The Seaside grill was our favorite also about 4 choices we had the pork ribs and steak all done to our liking. The Portofino restraunt was also very good we had the beef lasagna all these dinners came with soup and salad and dinner rolls. The Barefoot grill on the beach is a hidden gem with made to order pork chops, chicken and burgers with all the fixings. We ate at the buffet every day for breakfast also made to order omelets and meats, sushi was also avalible..The Prefered club does have more of the top notch liquors but most of the bars have the good stuff also just ask we were not disappointed in any of the drinks we had. The Marlin beach bar is very handy if you want to stretch your legs but there are always servers around to take your order while you people watch, The beach vendors weren't that bad just say no thank you its the same ones everyday we bought a couple nice things they start out very high on there prices, just pay what your comfortable with all were polite. A special shout out to Leo and the workers at the Marlin bar, always funny. All in all if you have a question just ask. the hospitality is wonderful, Internet is spotty but fast in the lobby, Bring lots of ones and fives for tips, they really appreciate it..Its always windy especially from 8.00 am to 11.00 am. Enjoy your trip..

Although we paid a premium for a “swim up room” our room smelt damp, was dingy and tired, especially the mattress, there were several mould patches in the bathroom and it was extremely noisy from the corridor, which seemed to be the main thoroughfare to some of the restaurants.
At considerable expense, we moved to the newly built part of the resort (Preferred club) this room was completely different, light, clean and quiet on a night.
(Disappointed we had to pay for this move though)
Our other gripe was, although this is a premium resort, it does not cater well for anyone with dietary needs. My wife is both gluten and lactose intolerant, and although we did receive cards at checkin for her to hand to the restaurant staff to explain this, all they tend to do is tell her what she can’t eat, and didn’t have many, (if any) alternative for her to eat.
One good thing about been in the preferred club area, is you have a Butler, our Butler was called Melvin, he went above and beyond to assist, he bought us gluten free bread, coconut milk, almond milk, and Ginger ale, from the local supermarket outside the resort, (none of which seem to be available in the hotel) obviously we had to pay for these items, however for Melvin to do this on his way home was greatly appreciated and excellent service, which definitely improved our stay here.
To be fair, all the staff here were great.

To sum up
Great beach and staff,
Poor, food if you have dietary needs, and be careful where your room is located.

Dear IanT506, Thank you for choosing our hotel as your holiday destination. Thank you for the time invested to describe your experience. First of all, thank you for highlighting our amazing beach as the service from our team. It is always pleasurable to read when our staff goes the extra mile in order to please our guests needs. Though, we have unfortunately fallen short of our goal during your recent stay. Allow me to underline the issues you are reporting are totally unusual here, in fact, we have a procedure to manage guests with special dietary. This said, I will be verifying along with the team this important aspect to take the necessary measure to avoid reocurrencies of similar situations. We hope you enable us to host you again in the future. Best regards, Clara Escribano General Manager

The Garden view room was situated on the second floor accessed by stairs or elevator. Upon arrival at check-in guests can expect to be approached by hotel staff wanting to book you on a free breakfast and attend a presentation. Guests can expect to receive an early morning telephone call to remind them of their appointment. After checking in the hotel staff will provide a motorised buggy to take guests to their rooms. The room décor is now showing signs of wear and tear. Didn't need to use the bath tub which was situated outside on the balcony and for all to see. Unfortunately, the balcony overlook the guests below sunbathing or using the swimming pool. The bathroom was of a large size with separate w\c and shower cubicle. The shower room was of a large size but with no door it sprays water out over the main bathroom floor. The toiletries provided were ample and restocked daily. There were sufficient white bathroom towels but were not changed daily. Unfortunately the staff need to better their cleaning skills as small signs were left untouched and not cleaned during the stay. The bed was a comfortable king size which comprised clean white linen. There were ample storage drawers, a double cupboard for clothing with security safe inside. The room comprised of a small seating area which was large enough to sit four people comfortably which leads out to the balcony. There are facilities to make coffee which will frustrate tea drinkers! The hotel staff attended to the room every day although the small fridge bar was not always topped up. Overall the room was of a good size and comfortable for two people. The hotel offers a mix of cuisines in their restaurants and all were sampled. The main buffet and Italian restaurants rated the best options with the others falling behind them. This was due to either poor staff service, poor menu, poor quality food, wine promotion or seating delays. There were times during the stay specific staff were very friendly and other times where staff had no manners and almost rude. The evening entertainment was hit and miss. As an adult only hotel the familiar staff song was more associated for children. If it rains its likely the entertained will not run that evening. As a non smoker, its important the correct information is being provided. However, the no smoking areas were very relaxed and smokers would light up anywhere and anytime during the day or evening. If you enjoy the beach and long walks you have no issues. Not returning

To start with, the beach is as beautiful as one would expect. They clean the seaweed many times daily and the palm trees are beautiful and mature. They have lots of security everywhere, which was appreciated. The dining staff was ok just not very helpful at times. They can be a little pushy even when they are proven wrong. They gave the impression they needed tips for everything. Food was nothing great but that’s expected at an all inclusive. The room service was good the first day but all other times, it was slow and food was cold. They forgot items and said they would be right back but never showed. Now the bar staff as they will put it, “Excellente”. Allen in the preferred club can make great drinks and is very friendly and insightful. Jose at the cabana bar was absolutely awesome, his frozen pineapple mojito was perfect. Martin, our personal concierge, did his best but we really just wanted to rest and not be bothered but he was always there with a friendly face when needed. The pool for preferred club was really nice, very clean, and fully staffed. The cabanas became our favorite place but with a limited number you better get there early. Now for the bad. We were there as preferred club guests our room had an awful noise coming out of the ventilation all night and a bright red light over the bed (not part of fire alarm) a broken door between bedroom and bathroom so no privacy and the counter top was broken in half. As for the beach, the vendors will just keep coming and coming and coming! They will even wake you from a nap by kicking up sand and yelling to get your attention. The beach is also VERY busy with parasailing boats, jet skis and other tourist traps. All in all, it was a good time but save your money!! We have been to Puerto Vallarta and Cancun, spent less money and had better experiences.

Fantastic holiday at Secrets Royal Resort, the entertainment team is amazing lots of different activities throughout the day such at foam pool party, zumba, volleyball, salsa dancing lessons and aerobics on the beach all the members of tea are super friendly and helpful especially Jean, he is a great dancer and does the zumba and salsa on the beach.
Only improvements the resort need to make is that they need to make improvements on their handicap accessable swim up rooms they need to make the outside of the rooms steps free so the wheelchair users can enjoy the beautiful facilities to the pool currently there are 3 step outside the room to the pool side and it is very difficult to take the wheelchair out of the room to the pool.
Other thing they need to improve on is vegetarian options for food in buffet and other restaurants within the restaurants there are very few options. The buffet was good but all veggie dishes are layed out with meat dishes maybe they should keep all veggies options in the separate sections to avoid crosstaminaton.

Firstly go for The Preferred Club if you can afford the extra, it is a must if you want to dip in and out of the 'entertainment' and have an all together better experience.
A far better standard of room, a great pool, 'butler', a la carte restaurant for breakfast and lunch, smaller more exclusive beach area and service and a dedicated check in/lounge/bar/snacks area.

The service around the pool and beach was second to none however the restaurants left a lot to be desired.
The drinks on offer were excellent top shelf brands, the food was mediocre at best and we tried most outlets.
Our second night we got up and walked out after waiting 1hr 20 mins and our 4th night (in the exclusive French option) they had us in and out in 40 mins. Literally removing your plate as you put your cutlery down.

Advise you to explore the place on your first day as there is so much going on and its a vast site, we walked everywhere including 2 miles either way along the beach. At no time did we feel unsafe or uncomfortable.
Take a light-weight fleece or jacket for those stormy nights.

Big thank you to:
Preferred Reception: Rosemery, Karen and of course Raquel
Beach Pool: Whole team, Israel, Jeffery, Nairoby, Junior ('senior occupation') and Magdalena
Preferred bar: Allan, Candela and Nicole
and of course Robinson who looked after us with such professionalism and enthusiasm.

My husband and I just got back from 6 days at the resort with 2 other couples, celebrating the 40th birthday of one of our friends. Some tips & things we learned:

1. The best food we had was at Tamarindo (mexican, at Now), hibatchi at Himitsu, the chicken (and really any of the grilled meat) at the Barefoot Grill, and dominican food on the buffets. Our meal at Portofino (italian) was abysmal, at Mercure (at Now) some of us had good food (hubs had the goat appetizer & grouper entree) others it was awful (my lobster was cooked to death and bland), the burgers at Bluewater Grill (at Now) were cooked to death & dry, and the coffee at Coco (at Now) was good. We found the breakfast buffet at Now to be better than Secrets, but lunch at Secrets buffet + grilled meat from the Barefoot Grill to be the best.

2. For a good mixed drink in the evening, go to the Portofino bar. The bartenders there, Santa & Israel (aka Super Sexy!), were great and could actually make a delicious mixed drink. Their mojitos were 10x better than those in the lobby bar. We hung out there every night. It's kind of off the beaten path, so it was never crowded.

3. If you want a chair in the pool area, get up early - before 9 - and snag one. People put their towels & books down to reserve them and then spend half the day not sitting in it! That got annoying.

4. The lazy river is awesome. If you're not into the music they play at the main pool in the afternoon, there are a lot of quiet places you can hang along the lazy river.

5. The ocean was a little seaweedy, but we still swam a few times; it wasn't bad enough to stop us.

6. Some favorite drinks: mama juana, coco loco, peach bellini, mojitos.

7. The entertainment at night was a step below a cruise ship. Not god awful, but not great, either. Silent disco was a hit with our group!

8. We had no issues with our room, it was clean. Except the maid only refilled our minibar & water the first night. After that, we would ask and it was never refilled. We grabbed water bottles from a bar to restock.

9. There was no problem walking between Secrets and Now. You can really eat at any restaurants, use the pool, get drinks, etc, with no issue. If you do go over to Now at busier times during the day, the security guard may ask to see your Secrets room key when you come back to ensure you're a guest.

I keep flip flopping if I would stay there again. Honestly, the lazy river was so nice and not something I've seen at a lot of other resorts, that I probably would, just for that. I can overlook some bad food (now that I know what to avoid!) to relax around the lazy river.

My partner planned a beautiful trip for me as a surprise for my birthday. The resort staff went above and beyond to make this trip extra special. The facilities are lovely, clean and well cared for. We had the opportunity to stay in the preferred accommodation and the service was above and beyond. The beach is beautiful, although windy during our time there. I recommend this resort.
The staff are well trained, always pleasant and many go above and beyond expectations. We did experience some exceptional service. Particularly from our butler, Melvin who went out of his way to check in with us, to make sure we had everything we needed, and to do the little extras to make our time and our celebrations our of this world. Junior, our waiter on the preferred beach, was engaging, proactive, and always anticipated our needs. I especially appreciated that he made sure we always had water, and we never had to wait for service. He was talkative and shared his joy at working at Secrets and told us a little about his life, which we really appreciated. And lastly, Candela in the Preferred bar. Candela pays such attention to detail, making sure that every drink she makes looks and tastes perfect. She was great at suggesting things I might like to try, she was always singing and happy, there wasn’t a drink she couldn’t make with flair and style. I always sought her out to make my drinks knowing it would be perfect. Secrets is lucky to have such great staff!
I eat Gluten free (celiac), and there were enough options, and i didn’t get sick from the food, however, the GF experience was a bit of a let down. Variety is limited, I had to constantly ask for assistance and options, even though they always ask about dietary requirements when seating you, and many of the staff didn’t know what they were talking about. There was GF bread but you always had to ask for it and not many dessert options. The buffet was particularly frustrating to get information, and the GF breakfast station had gluten containing items in it. LOTS of room for improvement in this area, and other resorts offer better GF options. For a 5 star resort, and especially being in the preferred rooms, I found this aspect of our trip very disappointing and it would likely be the reason I would choose a different resort in the future. Five star service otherwise...

Hello! Beach towels can be picked up by the main pool, in a small shelter right beside the Olio restaurant. There is also a towel pickup area for preferred club near the preferred club lounge by the beach. The non-preferred club rooms are typically located further back from the beach but all rooms are located past the lobby, theatre, and restaurant areas so it is really not far from the beach either!
