We booked a week at Club Med Punta Cana at short notice. This was our first stay at Club Med. Club Med Baby was awesome. The staff there were absolutely fantastic (the kids loved Elo and Leo from day one). We were welcomed on arrival by Adrian, as well as by Pepito, one of the kids club staff. The room was prepared with cribs, though we had to wait a little for strollers to be delivered, and for them to activate our keys to the "biberonerie", which is an awesome feature of this resort. Service around the resort was friendly, but lacking in places. Specifically, there is no waiter service on the beach or at the poolside, and for a resort at this price point I would expect this. The same goes for beach towels (one has to trek to the laundry to collect them -- there is no place on the beach to get them). Restaurants were on the whole fine, though we did have a 24-hour bout of food poisoning. I happened to be travelling with an epidemiologist / MD who confirmed the diagnosis and concluded that this was most likely caused by the salad bar at the Indigo restaurant which falls short on hygiene (ingredients kept out at ambient temperature; bowls and utensils re-used; no hand-washing facility for serving staff at the salad bar...). We did partake in scuba diving, but found the dive operation to be sloppy and particularly poor value for money for the DR. Divemasters rarely gave pre-dive briefings, and there were no maps of dive sites nor explanations of the route to be followed, currents etc. The shop screwed up our reservations and that of another couple (just messy scheduling, which is a shame given the place was pretty much empty). We didn't feel particularly cared for, nor did we feel that this was the safest dive operation we had been to. The front desk team is a complete disaster. Long lines, incompetent staff behind the desk. Really quite unpleasant. They gave us incorrect information on Covid-19 testing, and when the dive shop made an error on the bill, it took three tries to have it corrected. Don't bother trying to email the resort in advance with special requests or to ask for information -- they don't check their emails and won't respond.

Hotel's Favourite
It is our 2nd stay in a short period. We want to thank you, the entire GO’s team of CM Punta Cana, for making our stay a memorable one. Even though it was a little busier than last FEB, we had plenty of space for our activities. We stayed at the adult-only part of the resort - the Oasis Zen. The garden is impressive and full of birds. The rooms are big, bright and perfectly cleaned twice a day. The super professional Maëlle (head of the village during Abdel’s absence) and her team members ensured that everything was perfect. Special thanks to Boris, Aurelia (from the ZEN) and Stefanie (from the sports). Luis (the reception manager), Samarun and Smarlyn are great hosts too. But the GO oscar goes to KIM. Kim was one of the fitness trainers during our two weeks. OMG, she is a fantastic person. Her classes were motivating, full of energy, and you got to see her dancing at the shows in the evening. Melanie, who left after two days for holidays, is also one of our favourite GOs. We enjoyed it so much that we already booked another stay at another Club Med. Gilles and Thomas RISI

The room was very comfortable, clean, and spacious. The staff was superb in every aspect. Service oriented, well mannered, very sharp on the delivery of service in all areas from grounds, front desk, engineering, food and beverage, and guest relations. Haya at the water sports delivered extra care and concern for customer service. Other jewels in the hotel: Smarlyn, Argelis, Lucrecia and Luisa (pool and beach service), Jenzel in the restaurant, Java, Angel, and Morgan in the guest service area. Also Danilo from engineering was awesome. All of these individuals make the stay shine much brighter than the natural beauty of the resort.

Just got back from an amazing week in paradise. The resort is beautiful, placed perfectly in the beach and surround by beautiful palm trees. We stayed in the Zen Oasis Adult area. The rooms were beautiful, clean, modern, and had every comfort you could want during your stay. What made the trip truly amazing we’re all the wonderful GOs. From Meighan and Adrian in Zen reception, to Ines in the testing center, Julio behind the bar, and everyone in between, there was no shortage of amazing people throughout the entire experience. The food was fantastic, plenty of options through the day. There are so many activities to keep you busy during the day. You can learn Salsa from Juan Carlos, play tennis, mini golf, water sports, or even try something new and play in the circus area. We would plan another trip in a heart beat.

I booked a week just to see what an all-inclusive beach resort was like. The best analogy for this resort is that it’s like a cruise without a ship. You are isolated in a gated property where you will eat, drink, sleep and play. Turns out that this is not my travel style but this resort will be great for some specific groups, namely families with young children and people who will appreciate a wellness experience. There is a small town near the airport which you should be able to walk to in about an hour ( 5km or so) but the heat and humidity really make that unlikely. Your only option is a taxi ride that will cost you $20 each way. Escape is also possible through paid excursions but you need to be aware of two things. Excursions booked at the resort will cost twice as much as if you book online and you need to be prepared for a 30-45 ride to a central departure point near Bavaro if you book through Runners Adventures. Basically you should expect to spend most of your time at the resort. October is off-season and COVID is still limiting travel so it’s hard to imagine this resort at full capacity. The beach is small and there is just one pool. There are 3 restaurants and a couple of bars which could easily be overwhelmed by crowds. Two of the restaurants are buffets. The food had a European vibe as would be expected from a French company. Lots of fruits and salads. I think a vegetarian or vegan diner had plenty of choices. Stick to the chicken, pork or seafood as the beef was generally disappointing. The rooms were functional. Apparently there are multiple accommodation classes just like on a cruise, but you will be disappointed if you are expecting an ocean view. Buildings are 3 stories high and only a select number of units are actually on the water. Air conditioning was wonderful. Housekeeping attended to each room every day. There was a dorm refrigerator. I think each room has an outdoor patio which is very pleasant after the sun sets. There are safes for your valuables but they make require occasional service from a technician. The free wifi will work for email and social media but is useless for streaming apps. Pay $30 a week for better, but not great, internet. Incidentally you are supposed to be able to buy a single day of internet but nobody had the coupon for it. I am not much of a drinker so it’s hard for me to evaluate the adult beverage selections. Red or white wine are routinely offered at dinner. I had a good rum punch, frozen strawberry daiquiri, Cuba Libre and Bahama Mama and was served the worst whiskey sour and margarita that I’ve ever tasted. So the advice seems to be to stick with rum. The activities were a complete misfit for me. Lots of activities for chilren 3-13 that would guve the parents some free time. Lots of exercise options - zumba, step aerobics, line dancing, volleyball and water sports, sorta like a cruise ship minus the water slides. There is a covered theater and an outdoor arena for performances but these were unimpressive. There was constant music, sometimes soft and sometimes loud, often with a Spanish playlist. Your room became a quiet sanctuary. I have one final comment and it’s related to foreign languages which I think would impact any solo visitor. The dominant language of the staff you are most likely to interact with was surprisingly French. Housekeeping and gardeners mostly spoke Spanish. I think most of the guests spoke French. The result of this language stew was that strangers did not speak to one another very much aside from a “Hola” or “Merci”. I’m joking, but people needed some sort of visible identifier on their forehead so you could identify members of your linguistic tribe. As my title indicated, this not a great experience for me but I expect that many guests would have a great time at Club Med Punta Cana. I did see lots of smiles and happy faces.
