The Intercontinental in Santo Domingo provided not only the best location for business, pleasure and shopping, but the customer service is simply exceptional. I stayed for over 10 days on business and personal matters. Enjoyed the gym and the pool overlooking the city, the flawless rooms …and the best sushi bar in the city. The desserts at the restaurant are memorable. Special thanks to the employees at the desk who helped me and went out of the way when I lost my laptop charger (so profesional) and to the helpful limo driver Sr. Norberto. I have stayed at the Intercontinental in São Paulo and San Pedro Sula and they are also excellent. The experience in Santo Domingo was the best. Highly recommended!
The hotel was excellent. Rooms very spacious and comfortable. Most important for us is that the rooms were very quiet and we got a good night sleep. Good quality food in the restaurant and close to local restaurants if you want to go outside. Special thanks to front desk assistant Isivelsis who helped us arrange transport to La Romana when our pre arranged transport couldn't fit out bags and other options were super expensive. We would definitely stay there again.
we really enjoyed every time we stayed at Intercontinental areal Santo Domingo all the staff are very friendly and professional. we feel home. the lounge personnel are excellent , front desk and housekeeping. Rooms are very clean
This hotel has a true 5 start service and product. From the GM Mr Gonzalez, he leads a great team to provide with a smile great service. Centrally located to near by bars and restaurants, shopping malls and a safe location .The Market restaurant and the Suchi restaurant are very good . Steaks and sushi! I strongly recommend it for business and pleasure as well.
Had the pleasure of returning to Santo Domingo on business and stayed at the Intercontinental. The hotel is clean and they’re making ever effort to keep everyone safe. Had dinner in the returning and it was wonderful, a truest medium rare stake. Treat yourself and get a club room and enjoy a nice glass of wine!!!
This is my second time visiting the InterContinental Real Santo Domingo--the first being shortly after it opened four years ago. I was pleased to see that just like last time, the hotel is overall a great option, and being a Platinum IHG member I felt that I was treated well for my loyalty as I'll explain below. The hotel is very conveniently located and is right next door to the "Acropolis Mall" which has a Starbucks in it--of which at this time there are only 3 in the city so that makes it very, very convenient for a Starbucks-lover like myself. The building is elegant inside, a very large, open lobby, generally-pleasant front desk staff (although one was busy counting money in her cash drawer the whole time I was waiting until someone else said something to her that I was waiting), and has large, elegantly-appointed rooms. While I did not get an upgrade for being an IGH Platinum member I was nonetheless able to get a check-out at 3:00 p.m. instead of the regular noon which was very helpful as I needed to go get a Covid-19 test in order to fly back to the United States the following day. I was able to get this using the hotel's Whatsapp concierge feature which was very convenient. The room has a lovely soaking bathtub, decent quality towels, and nice-smelling Agraria amenities (standard in all InterContinental hotels.) I was able to use IHG points to pay for my night which made things even more convenient. The Market restaurant where I had lunch was also a good experience and recommendable. The pool area looked nice although there seemed to be only one employee and quite a few guests so I ended up just leaving although that wasn't a big deal--they may want to have more staff there though. All in all a very good experience and I would gladly return. Highly recommendable if you're looking for a luxury hotel in Santo Domingo outside of the colonial zone (but not too far from it!)…
This was our first time staying in this hotel. Two nights in January 2021. 7th floor. Junior suite. I come to Santo Domingo every 2 weeks. We had stayed at the Marriott Renaissance Jaragua two weeks earlier (for 1/3 the price) and were very impressed. So we thought we would "splurge" this time to stay at this high-class hotel. We were disappointed from arrival. We found the arrival staff at the reception kind of "snooty." They were "ok" but from the arrival we knew the employees were not "genuine" (not really genuinely into their jobs...this was a BIG change from the Renaissance Jaragua, where we were really impressed that everyone seemed like they loved their jobs). At the InterContinental Real, everyone (almost) seemed pretty miserable. At over $400 USD a night, I frankly expected the staff to be exceptionally friendly, and they simply were NOT. The housekeeping staff was great. Friendly. Attentive (if you asked for something). The restaurant was nice and the employees who worked there. The Japanese restaurant was great (good food, and nice service). BUT, by FAR, the worst service I have seen in decades was at the pool bar (we were there from 21-23 January 2021). You had to BEG for a drink. We were there at the pool all day on the 21st and 22nd. The staff was rude. And MOST of all, they were simply untrained, and unsupervised staff with NO manager. We literally had to get up and go beg for a drink every time we wanted to order. I have NEVER seen this at a 3-star hotel, much less a 4 or 5 star. The MAIN problem is completely the responsibility of the manager (there was none). So the "kids" working at the bar just stayed behind the bar joking and laughing with each other. And then, when we asked for a drink , they seemed like they were "bothered" by it. Especially the muscular boy working there. He truly just didn't give a sh*t. Just rude and seemed like he was homophobic (the whole staff did actually...were are a gay couple and felt very uncomfortable there the whole time). But whomever is responsible (the manager) for that pool bar should be fired immediately. We spent about $200 in the 6 hours we were there. We would have happily spent $500 if we could have just gotten faster service...more attention. We were embarrassed that we had to keep getting out of the pool and hot tub to go beg for a drink. We heard many other guests complaining about the same thing. It was BOTH days. Basically a complete lack of a manager overseeing the area. Frankly, if InterContiental headquarters/corporate were to send a "secret shopper" to this hotel, the hotel probably would lose its franchise rights to use the name "InterContinental." Mostly because of the bad service at the pool bar. But really the whole place was such a disappointment. So, it's 2 weeks later, and guess where we are? The Marriott Renaissance Jaragua ($130 a night versus $430 a night at the InterContinental). So my decision is made....it was a bad experience, and way overpriced. Total lack of management. Lack of training. And at those prices, the whole staff should be EXCEPTIONALLY friendly and GENUINE (versus false, bothered by clients, and untrained). We did like Patricio the security guy....he was nice and even tried to help get the attention of the bar tenders when we needed a drink. I am sure the manager of this hotel will blame COVID for this review...but don't believe it. They just suck overall....bad service. Overpriced. And we will never sty there again. Worst part: Pool Bar. Best part: Room was very clean, and big and impressive. Don't accept any BS response from the management about COVID. There is no reason the staff should be so rude and no reason to make clients have to chase down the staff for service at the pool bar (they should be walking around checking on the guests constantly....a guest should NEVER see the bottom of their drink glass....walk around and check on the guests and make sure their glass is always full!!!).…
Unexpected, last minute stay and I couldn’t be more thrilled. All Covid restrictions were in place when entering the hotel . Arrived at the hotel , late evening and just in time for dinner . I was impressed with the room service menu on the TV, LOVED IT. I order the Grilled salmon and asparagus. Room service was speedy and my food was still hot when it arrived .My room was perfect! I loved the BATHROOM, so spacious, everything was separated. Unlike most hotels they had really good TV channels that were free. The water was warm, which I didn’t make a fuss about , I was just glad to be there . The pillow and bed were extremely comfortable .This hotel is in a great area , next to all the shopping stores and restaurants.
we stayed for one week, even thought it was a difficult time because of the virus, the hotel gave us an EXCELLENT service, the food was good, all the staff member super friendly , i can't wat to go again.
This beautiful hotel situated in the heart of Santo Domingo is very nice and quite everyone is friendly and helpful from the moment we walked in the front desk receptionist was pleasant and ready to serve us, prior to our visit Carolina Pérez the front desk supervisor have been replying to my email very quickly the rooms are clean and spacious and nice, felt like home every thing was in order customer’s service at our finger tip just a phone call away and they would be ready to assist I really enjoyed my stay here, be sure to choose the rooms with superb breakfast because the breakfast is definitely superb. Pool is big and spacious service is exquisite there and the hotel is within walking distance to most major store and restaurants once you’re here you won’t need to complain, taxi service is easy especially if you wish to go with the locals just ask front desk to call. I would stay here again and again. Raymond 🇯🇲…
