Half of the staff were quite kind, while the other half made the stay more difficult than it should have been. This second group seemed entirely disinterested in their job and didn’t care to help customers with anything (like providing tourists with information about restaurants, ATMs, or directions). This hotel completely did not respond to messages or emails, and I had to call them long-distance to arrange my airport transfer, which cost more than double what an Uber did. Check-in took 30 minutes, which is unacceptable, and the insistence that the bill be paid in cash when they had a card-reader smelled of untoward behavior. The location is safe, but was super loud at night due to proximity to night clubs. My ears were ringing. I would not recommend a stay here unless poor service and partying in the historic colonial zone are priorities.

We stayed for nearly a month and were so pleased to have found this place. Excellent staff, great location, quaint and clean rooms. All of the people there working were so helpful and kind, and it was a quiet retreat to come back to after a day of work.

Quit worrying about 2020 and visit Zona Colonial in the DR! Except for certain exhibits, the DR is responsibly open for business and are doing a most incredible job in managing the “covid crisis”. The Dominican Republic is setting a model for the world to follow, in my humble opinion. I am writing this review based on my travels and experiences both in the DR and around the world. I’ve “been there, done that” in every clime and place, except Antarctica, which is on my bucket list. That said, take this review as being written by someone that is open to just about anything, from grass huts to five-star hotels. This was my first stay at Casa Naemie. I usually stay other places when traveling the DR alone, so I am very experienced in Santo Domingo lodging. When my wife comes with me however, we stay at hotels with swimming pools, which does not matter to me. So here are the facts! The good and the bad. I hope this helps when assessing a place to stay in Zona Colonial, República Dominicana! Downside: 1. There’s no swimming pool, so younger kids with energy (& perhaps the wife) may not like it. If a pool is of little importance, check out the Upside! 2. Signage could be better, seriously... it’s easy to walk by and ask yourself “where is that place again?” 3. There’s no Ice in the room refrigerator, but no worries - Benoit has you covered! There’s always a bag or two in the lobby freezer, and Benoit is very happy to provide a container of ice for the important things in life, like bourbon! Upside: 1. Very Spanish/Dominican colonial feel and vibe; 2. Very secure… seriously, the staff watches the door like hawks, and the security cameras are strategically placed and watched; 3. Functioning air conditioning – awesome relief from humidity; 4. Neighbors on the street are very friendly and low key! No hassles when stepping out, only new friends that will greet you with smiles and a “Buenos Dias” (or Buenos Tardes in my case);; 5. There are numerous “off-the-path” cafes close by – which makes life easy! 6. There’s a little bar next door (Zona Taco) that has the perfect mix, feel, and great prices for awesome food and drink, with a VERY welcoming familia feel & wonderful staff. El jefe is also an awesome singer; 7. Location: Super easy walk to Calle Conde and one of my favorite restaurants - Sega Zona, as well as many more “touristy” establishments; 8. The beds are awesome!! Pillows comfortable and supportive, and the linens really helped with sleep. In fact, I slept so well that I kept missing breakfast! Best of all, clean and fresh! There is absolutely no need to worry whatsoever about the cleanliness of the bed and linens – thank you Patricia! and lastly, 9. THE STAFF! They alone, including a wonderful “motherly” & charming housekeeper (Patricia), get FIVE STARS⭐️. Johnny, the manager and day-time host along with Kervens, and Benoit who keeps an eye on the place at night are the best I’ve EVER experienced in hospitality. Benoit is an awesome conversationalist and ALWAYS ready to be of help (and he tolerated me!). It is impossible to write a full report on how awesome and personable the staff was. Responsive, friendly, welcoming, and polite. Their company and warmth are genuine and, simply put, AWESOME! I am personally grateful to them for helping to make my stay EPIC! Oh, their English and French are fantastic, as well as Creole if you speak that! 10. Rooms: I stayed in Room 11, the roof top terrace, double bed room – wonderful. On my next visit I plan to stay in Room 10, which is exquisite with beautiful décor and balcony! Room 4 is fabulous as well with a large terrace. Thank you, Benoit, for the tour!! When traveling to the DR now, Casa Naemie is definitely my new home away from home. If you’re not five-star luxury picky, and if you truly love the colonial Spanish/Dominican vibe at a perfect price, search no further... you will fall in love with this place! Other important notes regarding my travels here: 1. I ONLY use Santo Domingo Taxi, managed by a former Marine Corps friend - Ken Smith. 2. As far as educational tours and site-seeing, Angel Morga, “Nati”, is the man! I have personally known him since 2017, and I regard him as my “Professor” of history for Santo Domingo and the Dominican Republic. His English is awesome, and his honesty is incomparable - plus, he is the DR’s Director of Tour Guides In Santo Domingo. Ken Smith and Nati are now collaborating on making tours and site-seeing awesome. I always carve out time to socialize with them, and only use them for touring & learning. Going a step further, if you have any problems when visiting, Ken and Nati are a simple call away and they will promptly be of assistance as best humanly possible. Thank you Casa Naemie - and especially Benoit - for a wonderful break from a chaotic 2020! LtCol Cobbler, USMC Retired

As this place is located in Zona Colonial, it is a convenient place to stay. Everything in zona colonial is in walking distance and the area is very safe. The room and bathroom was clean. The bed was very good. The room had a TV and refrigerator. I was not lucky enough to have a room with balcony, but it was ok, although a little dark. Breakfast was ok. The staff was lovely and very helpful.

We stayed here for 3 nights in March, 2018. We booked a king bed room with a balcony through booking.com. We arrived at the hotel straight from the airport, in a strange city and tired after a long journey and guess what? Front desk staff told us our room had been given to someone else! We reserved it. We committed. Not acceptable. They put us in a double room on the first floor at the back of the building with no outside looking windows. We put up with this for 2 nights and then approached the owners, a wonderful French couple and they corrected the situation immediately. Merci beaucoup. Breakfast is O.K. The location is perfect, right in the heart of the old town and close to the main square and some good restaurants.

My father and I stayed for a couple of nights Feb 2018. We both really liked the place—very clean, close to the colonial district sites, affordable, and great breakfast every morning. The staff and manager are all extremely nice and helpful, and they seemed to really enjoy taking care of us. I highly, highly recommend staying here.

Finally Casa Naemie! Queen bed with sofa bed and balcony is perfect. Ww were able to check in at 12 instead of 4pm.....Wife is napping and I am out on the balcony taking in some sun, listening to some Sade. Love this room, thinking about how we can enjoy the balcony prior to going out for the evening. We have family here in the capital and the Balcony can sit 6. Simple bathroom, clean and felt warmly welcomed at the front desk. Close quarters here but our room is perfect for 1 night. We could stay here about 3 nights before I would feel a bit closed in....lol Feeling good about our choice. Small fridge as well and plenty of outlets to charge cells and notebooks. #Winner

We spent two nights here on a visit to see the colonial part of Santo Domingo. I can’t say enough good about our hosts here, wonderful people. Your included breakfast is custom cooked and served by the friendly staff. They speak french, english and spanish, so there is no language barrier. Everything you could want to see is walking distance and the staff are happy to direct you. The rooms are small but clean and mattresses are fine. Wifi works well and you have little courtyard you share with the stairs to sit if you want a bit more room,or the wife wants a nap. Just down the street is a small tienda to get a cold beer or whatnot and lots of restaurants nearby. The owners brother Leo has a cab and lives nearby, very convenient. The street is quiet and we heard nothing other than occasional dog. I would go back here if ever in Santo Domingo again. This is a five star three star hotel!

Excellent historic hotel. We booked online and stayed only one night as we traveled around DR. The bed was very comfortable, the AC worked well, and I loved the bath. It was modern and very nicely decorated with a large walk-in shower. The balcony overlooked the main street. Breakfast was included and it was delicious. Eggs cooked to order with local ingredients, coffee, juice, fresh fruit, the whole 9 yards. The staff was patient with my limited Spanish and very friendly. I highly recommend this hotel.
