more authenitic than the international style hotels. we had a lovely 2nd floor junior suite with balcony. There were shutters rather than glass and the lift was out when we arrived but the staff were helpful and the lift eventually got mended. there was live music and the aircon was great. I wouldn't trust the balcony to walk on but...

This hotel was chosen by Rickshaw the company we booked our tour of Cuba with. We stayed there 2 nights at the beginning of our stay and 2 nights at the end. Apart from the central location the hotel did not have much to offer. As it is a pedestrianised Street we had to carry our heavy suitcases a long...

Los Frailes is apparently a converted monastery, which explains the cast iron monk guarding the entrance, and the staff being dressed in cassocks! Our rooms (on the ground floor) were converted monks' cells, and as such had no windows - though we didn't mind this once we got used to it. Breakfast (very good) is served at the cafeteria across...

Very quaint and characterful former monastery in the heart of old Havana, staff wore quasi monastic uniform. Vladimir was the porter cum barman who was very friendly and helpful. The room was fantastic with double height ceiling, ensuite with bidet as well as the shower and bath, there were two full length windows in the bedroom opening onto a balcony...

We stayed at this hotel for two nights this month. The location was excellent and the lobby beautiful. But the rooms were dark and gloomy, without windows. Out of 8 lightbulbs 3 were missing. The recepcinist offered to get us a taxi to the airport. The taxi was an old Lada without safetybelts, of course, but worse: there wasnt room...

This hotel received rave reviews from Lonely Planet. Since I was coming to Cuba alone, I wanted to spend my first night in a hotel that was centrally located, thinking it might be easier to figure out where to go and what to do. The prices were about $100 more than those quoted in the Lonely Planet, which was steps....

This hotel was recommended to us by the travel agency for just one night as we travelled throughout the rest of the country. For starters, the hotel is located on a street not accessible by bus or car, meaning that we were dropped of at a nearby square, and were forced to walk 5-10 minutes to reach the hotel. Luckily...

There's a monkish theme here. The staff dress up as monks because the name means The Friars. My room was superb with old furniture, good on suite facilities and really good air conditioning which is essential in Cuba, Staff were generally helpful although it was difficult to send and receive texts or use a mobile phone? Think the hotel is...

We found this hotel to be in a great location in the old town. From walking in we loved the place and the staff were friendly and helpfull. The rooms are basic but offer all you need. Those that complain about no windows in the room - I don't get it? I'm not sure what you would want to see...

Only a few steps from the Plaza Vieja and many restaurants and bars in the surrounding streets. The room was large with a huge bathroom and a great shower, very comfortable beds, although the pillows need replacing! The staff are dressed as monks and there are metal statues of monks throughout the hotel. My recommendation would be a room on...
