The Vapor 156 boutique hotel in Centro Habana near the world-famous Malecon was completely renovated in October 2019. It is a colonial building from 1932 with elevent guest rooms on three floors. The more than six-meter high ceilings, more than 30 original wooden doors and windows and the tiled floors from the colonial era give the house a very special flair. It has a spacious entrance / lobby area, courtyard and first floor dining area with private balconies facing the courtyard. The rooms are furnished with selected antiques. All rooms have a flat screen TV, refrigerator, air conditioning, safe, hair dryer, and selected linens and towels. Our team is ready to provide you a unique experience, whether at breakfast, lunch or dinner. You can also enjoy a tea or coffee or a cocktail in the evening with us or take advice on planning your stay in Havana or Cuba. Our reception is staffed around the clock.

Detailed Reviews
My partner and I stayed in early January 2020. Our Spanish is totally limited so I loved staying here with staff who were happy to help us out in English. The building is really pretty and recently renovated as you can see in the pictures. Nice hot water shower and cool air conditioning. We really enjoyed walking from the hotel to the old town to see the "real" Havana or one can take a taxi to the old town for approx 10 or 15 Cucs.
Israel, one of the staff was especially the most friendly and helpful and welcoming when they checked us in and gave us a welcome drink and chatted to us in the courtyard. Israel gave us lots of tips for restaurants and transport too. Also Jorge really knew his stuff but I asked Jorge to show me a landmark on the map but he told me I don’t need a map and just told me all the directions. I got out onto the street and got lost and didn’t have internet so I wished Jorge had helped me with the map. I think Jorge just didn’t have the eyeglasses handy when I asked. The breakfast staff were really lovey doing an early breakfast for us before the official time when we had an early day program.
Later in our Cuba trip we stayed at lovely Casa Particulars (homestays) with families which was really fun and homey, but it was great for our first few days in Cuba to stay in a hotel with 24 hour reception and English speaking staff to help us get into the groove of the country. We found it hard to find a hotel that was not super expensive, until we found this one.
I definitely recommend Boutique Hotel Vapor 156, and will stay again when I come to Cuba next time.

When I arrived in Havana in the later evening as a solo first time visitor, I was a little apprehensive of what to expect. I need not have been concerned. Javier, the night manager gave me a warm welcome and was able to point me in the direction of a local eatery. The room itself was very comfortable and well appointed.
Next morning Jorge was most more than helpful in giving directions and suggesting places to visit. The location could not have been better, being a few minutes from the sea front (Malecon) with both the old city and the more modern Vedado within walking distance.
I must add my apreciation of all the help offered when the Corona emergency made me cut short a stay in Varadero and reurn to Havana. A quick call to Jorge to say I was on my way and he had a room prepared as well as helping with travel advice and other arrangements.
In all Vapor 156 os a perfect choice for someone who want to see the best of Havana and needs a place with someone who speaks perfect English, or German combined with great knowledge and customer service

This was our first night in Cuba and we enjoyed staying at this small and stylish guest house very much. Our room was spacious and so was the bathroom. Most of all being new to the country we were impressed by the stylish antique furniture, chandeliers, candelabra and chaises longues. The staff were very welcoming and breakfast was nicely presented. The area is good-and a renowned but reasonably priced restaurant Bikeys is close at hand as well as a local food cafe called Loco de Cuba

Overall clean and safe hotel with stunning architecture and good staff except for the manager Jorge. A big thank you to Eduardo, who is a genuinely caring person and very attentive to all the guests.
However, the hotel has some issues. First, our sheets had not been changed in four days. When we asked for at least fresh pillowcases, we were first told it would be difficult for them to provide us with these. Then, we were told that if we wanted fresh pillowcases, the only solution was to move us to a room that had fresh sheets/pillowcases but we would have to pay for the new room. This ask by the Manager Jorge was unbelievable and unheard of. After some back and forth, we were given fresh pillowcases from a storage room or the like. Let’s even pretend that they had forgotten to change the sheets, the ask that followed about paying to move to a different room with fresh sheets/pillowcases was beyond unfair and ridiculous. When we calmly explained to Jorge that we were shook about the request, he started raising his voice and becoming aggressive and he denied instructing his staff to make us pay for a room with fresh sheets/towels. Totally unprofessional behaviour.
Second, meals and drinks are unjustifiably overpriced. For example, a small cuban fish meal is US $30 and one small bottle of water is US$ 2. This cuban fish meal was advertised as one including vegetables and beans; however, we were not given either and we had to bring it to their attention. We were told there were no beans they could give us but we were not told so before ordering nor were we given a discount for the missing important element of a cuban dish. Mind you, in a very nice restaurant you can get a nice fish dinner with big portions for 2000 CUP and most bottles outside are sold for 100-150 CUP.
Third, tours provided by hotel staff/contacts are overpriced. The first day were told a walking tour of 4 hours was US $30, the next day the manger Jorge said it was US $50 and tried to gaslight us into thinking that he previously said it was US $50. We were then able to confirm that it was indeed $30.
We will not return to this hotel only because of the dishonesty, disingenuity, and greed of the manager Jorge or the people above him setting prices/rules and making decisions. In the end, we felt that we could not trust in the hotel management because of everything described above.

Dear Betel. First we need to thank you for your opinion. We pay close attention to all our guests’ opinions as they help us to continue improving the experiences we want our guests to live while they are at our hotel: “to make them feel they are living in their home in Havana with us, your Havana family”. You, your mother and your sister were indeed family members with special needs. We loved pampering and spoiling you as much as we could with late brunches, giving you medical assistance when your sister got sick, allowing you to stay in the room after check out time without extra charging, as we totally understood your sister’s health conditions. We even assisted you in the middle of the night when you got into trouble on the streets, outside the hotel and gave you tips and recommendations to help you keep healthy your travel budget. We know there’s no second chance to a first good impression. Nevertheless we truly hope we could have a second opportunity to demonstrate you, your mom and your sister we are not as you describe us in your comments. Looking forward to hosting you again. Best wishes and a warm Havana hug full of Vapor.

The Vapor 156 is a very lovely furnished and beautiful hotel - or actually one would almost have to say: a museum! But a museum to touch and feel good.
The reception is very warm and you get a very tasty welcome drink served directly.
On three floors are very individually furnished rooms with great attention to detail.
The mattresses are super comfortable. The rooms and bathrooms are very clean.
But the absolute dream is the breakfast. Here it is worth to take the upgrade to the premium breakfast, where you have a large selection of egg dishes, fruit, juices, etc. - super delicious!
A true paradise in Havana!

We arrived for a last minute nights' stay in Havana after 6 days in Valerdero. After booking a different hotel that had let us down terribly once we actually arrived, we stumbled across Boutique Hotel Vapor 156 after essentially being left in the streets of Havana at night. After seeing our distress at their door and despite the current climate, they welcomed us in with open arms, calmed us down and had no hesitation in setting up a room for us.
Such incredible people and unbelievably welcoming, the hotel was perfect and more than what I could have dreamed of. Turning what could have been a terrible experience of Havana into a positive trip full of warmth, love and genuinely amazing human nature at its' very best.
The next day we were greeted with a wonderful breakfast and then we spent the day with Jorge walking around both Central Havana and Old Havana and truly seeing what Havana was like, most definitely not your usual ' city tour'.
If you are in Havana, you must stay at Boutique Hotel Vapor 156. I cannot recommend them highly enough and feel that you will only truly experience the real Havana if you stay here.
Thank you to Jorge and all the team. Keep being the wonderful human beings that you are, you really are a fabulously sparkling hidden gem in the middle of Havana.

Beautifully restored 1920's boutique hotel, perfectly located! Charming, quaint, decorated with authentic antique furniture. We were welcomed and treated like family! Jorge, Oscar and Mario made sure we had everything we needed, were super helpful and very knowledgeable! The chef was amazing too and a delicious breakfast was prepared fresh every morning ( respecting my dietary restrictions and preferences!) e
We enjoyed everything about this boutique hotel. From the antique furnishings to the cleanliness and the unique atmosphere to the homemade breakfasts from the chef and cocktails from Jorge ;)
Knowledgeable, helpful and friendly staff and owners made us feel like home and went out of their way to ensure we were 100% happy! Totally recommended for an authentic Cuban experience. We will definitely return soon!

If I ever come back to Havana I’m defo staying here.
The manager (Jorge) and his staff go out of their way to help you, they are all very friendly and welcoming which created a really lovely environment.
Practically they helped us quite a lot e.g general info, taxis, arranging a tour due to our original tour car breaking down, help when my partner got sick etc…
(if you need to book anything you can do it through them and they are happy to help - we didn’t know this before we arrived and had booked some things already)
The hotel itself is lovely, stands out on the road it’s on as it’s well looked after. We had a small room with everything you need. (If you opt for one of the larger Government hotels, you may get larger rooms/more amenities but probably won’t get the same sort service)
Their Cuban breakfast was also nice. A mixture of fresh fruit, eggs etc.. was all filling, refreshing and needed for the day ahead. (Especially as Havana wasn’t a very foody place in our experience)
Definitely recommend this place to anyone coming to Havana.
Thank you to Jorge, Oscar and the rest of the team!

We stayed at the Vapor (premium room) for one night and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Will definitely be back. The property is well maintained and is furnished with beautiful antiques that you may never lay eyes on again. Vaulted ceilings, a great breakfast which was included and excellent hospitality from the manager, Jorge. Jorge was very attentive and genuinely enthusiastic about showing us the property. Muchas gracias!

I was on my first trip to Cuba, and I was invited as a drummer to go with other Cuban musicians whom live in San Miguel de Allende MX. As do I. The Havana Jazz Festival was happening, and my friends were invited to play, and I tagged along now having a sort of “inside track” to the city. I’d of been foolish to not go!
So I researched the various types of hotels, and knowing that I’m pretty “low maintenance” and wanted to be in the central part of the city, I chose the Hotel Vapor. It was a perfect choice for me. In booking the hotel, I was in contact with Fernando who is a day manager of the hotel. He speaks English better than I do, (attempt at a joke) meaning, there’ll be no lost in any translation w/him. I think he’s the type of person who has seen it all (so to speak) and will be able to accommodate any issue that can come up.
The hotel is on Vapor street, neat the Hotel National, and about 4 blocks from the Ocean. It IS in a local neighborhood, and not a touristy “Here I am” kind of place. It was once owned by a famous TV star where all kinds of good times occurred, (if I have my story right). It was a pretty big house, that’s been transferred into a 2 or 3 story hotel. I was in room 3 which is located on the first floor and the patio breakfast/dining room is at your door step. Wasn’t noisy at all, and no street noise from that location. Now I didn’t have any window looking outside, but I didn’t plan on being there staring out the windows, but to be with my compadres that I traveled there with. If you want a different location, then know the rooms on the 2nd/3rd floors I presume have windows and more light.
They will give you a competitive rate on exchanging dollars to Cuban Pesos as a convenience. They have a managers there around the clock, so there’s always someone there to aide you in your questions, and pursuits. Call you a cab, etc…
Again, I don’t LOOK to find issues to write about. I enjoyed the breakfasts, and meals I had there. They keep a high standard of hygiene, and never for a second thought or had any suspicions regarding the staff. All very professional and courteous. I got the impression that the staff enjoyed working there. As I was departing to the airport, I apparently left my brand new Bose earbuds that are not cheap, charging in the bathroom. The housekeeper came running out of my room while I was about to get in the cab, to hand me the box and charging cable ! I took a breath, thinking that says something right there about the Hotel and attitude of the employees. I think more stories like that need to be told in the suspicious world we’ve been conditioned to pass thru in. As fas as I’m concerned you should have a very pleasant experience while at Hotel Vapor!
