Detailed Reviews
Since it was our first visit to Bermuda, I carefully researched the island's parishes, as as well as the various accomodations. All that planning paid off, since we found the perfect place , the lovely Reefs Resort in beautiful Southampton. The location is perfect for those wanting to be away from the busier areas of the island yet close to bus transportation, which is a great way to see all the sites. The Reef's own private beach offers stunning views of the ocean and cliffs, but is also within walking distance of the pretty pink sand beaches of Horseshoe Bay and Church Bay and the lighthouse.
From the moment we checked in at The Reefs, we felt pampered with steam towels and rum swizzles. The service was exceptional. Everyone was friendly and helpful, offering many personal gestures, not found in larger hotels. We especially liked that housekeeping checked in every evening, to make sure we had everything we needed for the night, and passed out chocolates and newsletters. There was also a guest welcome board in the lobby, daily bottled water, first night rum and ginger beer cocktail fixings and a complimentary weekly rum swizzle party. We enjoyed free use of on site beach equipment, lounge chairs, towels, kayaks , paddle boards, snorkeling gear,etc.. All of the rooms, the infinity edge pool and jacuzzi have ocean views. In addition the property has a peaceful outlook deck with chairs and tables and another area with hammocks to relax, watch and listen to the crashing waves against the rocks below. The Reefs building is charming, pretty in pink with painted murals and breathtaking vantage points. Our agenda for this trip was quite busy in order to see all this spectacular island offers. But when we return to The Reefs Resort in the future, we hope to further indulge in all the amenities available right on the grounds of this little piece of paradise, for an even more relaxing and rejuvenating vacation experience.

I knew as soon as I walked in I was in the right place! Cozy, unpretentious entry. Easy check-in with standard complimentary refreshing wet cloths and Rum Swizzles. Loved our spacious cliff side room. Beautiful beach and ocean view. Nice balcony. Furniture is a little worn. Nice updated bathroom. Called maintenance about sliding door stuck. Took care of it immediately. Noticed some places around resort could use freshening of paint. We enjoyed dining room, bar and lounge. Breakfast included was great. We used the bus system as much as possible because taxis are expensive. Extremely expensive. Enjoyed couples experience at the spa. Nice people working at spa. Nice spa salad lunch included. People were swimming but a bit cold for us in early March. Instead we used the complimentary kayaks available at the beach. Attendant pulls them to the water for you. Walked to nearby Gibbs Lighthouse and climbed to top for great view of the island. Other hotels have been updated to sleek modern decor, and are more pricey. That’s why I call this traditional “Old Bermuda.”The Reefs is an all-around wonderful place to stay!

We are a family of 4 adults just returned from a perfect winter getaway at the Reefs. Note that there is a Club side and a hotel side to the property, with different pool areas and amenities. We stayed on the Club side of the resort and can’t say enough positive things about it. The setting is incredible with amazing views of the ocean and sunset. Every room has this spectacular view, as the resort is built on the cliffs along the ocean.
There is a very friendly vibe at the hotel. The staff are incredibly polite, friendly, and treat their guests as family. We were very impressed by that.
Our 2 bedroom condo unit was spacious and well maintained. Our housekeeper, Carla, was excellent and went above and beyond to keep our space in perfect condition. What a nice treat!
We were 2 rooms from the pool area and had a private hot tub in the unit and a fire pit directly in front of our room where we enjoyed a cocktail at sunset every nice.
The pool area was very private, tranquil and not at all crowded. We enjoyed lunch at the pool restaurant every day and the staff was very friendly and eager to please.
We treated ourselves to spa services at the hotel spa which were fabulous!
The concierge staff were excellent and arranged restaurant reservations and cabs for us for our dinners. The town of Hamilton is a 20 min cab ride (about $30 or $35 each way with a tip) and we really enjoyed some fabulous meals in the town.
The hotel is walking distance to Horseshoe Bay Beach and we took a hike there one day.
Bermuda is a beautiful island, the Bermudians are lovely people, and the Reefs Resort is a great place to stay. I would absolutely return.

My husband and I just returned from our honeymoon at The Reefs. We couldn't have picked a better place, it has it all. The service was exceptional, and the facility was gorgeous. The Reefs has it's own private beach, which is great for convenience when you want to eat lunch or have happy hour on the beach but also nice because it is so well maintained. They also provide any equipment you could need, all types of chairs, towels, snorkel gear etc.
Our room also had a wonderful view, and there's never a pool or hot tub too far away, for the days you don't want to go to the beach. The food was really good also, and there's plenty of variety for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We chose to only do the breakfast meal plan, but we did eat dinner at the hotel a few times also. I highly recommend requesting a dinner on the beach when you make your reservation at Coconuts, can't beat it!

The pools and staff of the reefs are the best. My wife and I enjoyed a long weekend at the Reefs. The staff of the hotel made this a 5 star experience from Peidro helping with cabs, the cleaning staff asking if there was anything we needed whenever they saw us, and the waitstaff being very helpful. The beach was extremely relaxing with great two person kayaks, comfortable lounge chairs, and the water is so beautiful.
The hotel rooms themselves are not the Ritz, but were comfortable! We enjoyed many of our meals onsite and found Coconuts and the Lounge to be good food, and reasonably priced for Bermuda. The fish sandwich was the best we had on the island.

Just got home from a great week at The Reefs with our 2 teenage kids. We all loved it. The hotel is kinda old school but very clean and everyone there is very friendly and helpful. The food at the main restaurant and the Coconuts (the bar/restaurant at the beach) is very good. We didn’t have a bad meal there. There are plenty of gluten free options as well. The waiters at the beach were particularly friendly and remember your orders from previous days. We had 2 rooms overlooking the pool area but from our balcony you also have a great view of the ocean. The rooms are on the smaller side and our mattresses were not the best but ok. The beach is beautiful, with an umbrella for every 2 chairs-and the hotel was not that crowded so you don’t have to reserve your chairs at 6 am, like you have to do at even some of the higher end resorts (shame on you Ritz). Well known horseshoe beach is a 15 walk down the road but the beach at The Reefs is just as nice. The only downside to The Reefs is it’s a long cab ride to anywhere on the island-be prepared to pay $30 each way to Hamilton or the Dockyard. Housekeeping could be a little more liberal with the toilet paper-leave an extra roll!! The front desk staff didn’t seem to know much about the bus schedule (which is about $5.00 per person) and it seems the bus schedule is inconsistent. My wife and daughter did a spa afternoon and loved it. The 4 pm tea was also very nice. Nice pool and hot tub if that’s your thing. The gym is perfectly good with treadmills, an elliptical, weight machines, and a full rack of free weights. We would return to The Reefs without hesitation.

After canceling our trip from May 2020, we were able to book The Reefs for a wonderful week this past July. We were a bit nervous with all the testing and paperwork required before this trip but everything went smoothly. Arriving at the new airport was a welcome site. With kites hanging from the ceiling, it was a truly welcoming start to our week. Every stop along the way thru immigration, luggage then COVID testing went well (COVID testing was very discreet).
When we got out of our taxi at The Reefs, Samantha welcomed us and brought us a swizzle, then gave us all the pertinent information for our stay. We were told to stay on property until our COVID test results were in, which were emailed by mid-morning. Our favorite room, #330, was beautiful as always, with a gorgeous view of the beach, Coconuts and the entire resort. So many staff members remembered us, including Wyman, Martin, Edwina, and many new faces were always friendly and courteous, Ryan, and Melanie, to name a few. And the front desk staff were smiling and informative 24/7-Sandy and Melanie. And to see Leslie again at the Repeaters party was a pleasant surprise.
We had dinner a few nights at Coconuts, and on the Travel & Leisure terrace at Coconuts but the most romantic spot was dining on the beach. Food was always delicious, cocktails were on point but just being at The Reefs is like coming home!

A small group of 6 Spent 5 nights at the Reefs and although it is still not fully up and running due to the pandemic what was available to us was just what we needed after such a long and trying year. The beach was always manicured the views breathtaking the food was wonderful and the staff really went above and beyond to make us feel special. An extra special shout out to the executive chef he always made it a point to greet the tables and talk passionately about that nights offering and what was local and fresh truly a highlight from a fellow chef.. Cannot wait to plan our next stay at the reefs it can only get better when all the restrictions have been lifted!!

The staff made our stay memorable. From the second the pre-arranged taxi arrived at the hotel until our departure there was always someone to make sure that we had anything and everything we needed. Bermudian hospitality is always friendly and the Reef's staff take this to the next level. It was noticeable that everyone learned each guest's name which really makes you feel comfortable. The main facilities are traditional Bermudian style and decor with a restaurant and bar that have a terrace overlooking the beach and pool area. Breakfast, lunch and dinner all have a good selection of choices and service is attentive. Nightly live entertainment and a weekly Rum Swizzle party for guests help occupy the evenings if you aren't out at one of the many great pubs or restaurants on the island. The upscale restaurant, Coconuts, is down at the beach and has its own bar. Beach amenities and furniture are all well maintained. The location is on south shore about 20 mins drive from Hamilton or Dockyard and about 45 mins from the Airport. Rooms are well appointed and comfortable and bathrooms have double sinks and large showers. Housekeeping ensured that the room was refreshed daily. As a 40+ year resident and visitor to Bermuda I would never choose to stay at a different hotel.

My boyfriend and I just got back from an amazing trip to Bermuda where we stayed at The Reefs. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, everything at this hotel was top notch.
We had a cliffside room and the views from the balcony on the second floor were stunning. We could see the entire hotel, pool area, beach, and the sparkling turquoise water. Many a morning I sat outside and enjoyed a cup of coffee and read before heading out for the day. At night we would leave the slider open so we could fall asleep to the sound of the ocean and the tree frogs.
The room was simple, but very clean. There was a desk, small couch and table in the room, in addition to the very comfortable bed. The bathroom had two sinks, which was appreciated. There was L'Occitane shampoo, conditioner, and soap in the bathroom. No lotion ladies, so make sure you pack some. The Keurig machine and K cups were appreciated to make coffee in the room each morning and there was also a small fridge. Our room was cleaned each day and there were always fresh towels in abundance.
We had free full breakfast every morning, served by Richard, which was a nice perk. We also ate dinner at Coconuts two times. The food is excellent. Our favorite spot was at the bar where we got to know Mike (ask about Mike's special drink!), Shane, and Wayman. The cocktail pours were average, but I feel like this happens everywhere these days, so we just enjoyed being able to soak in a little of the wisdom and information we could learn. We ended up meeting a great couple at the bar our first day and spent time together sightseeing the island in Twizzies and going to the Swizzle Inn for a rum swizzle, among many other adventures.
Each afternoon after our escapades, we would stop at the pool for a few hours for a swim or a dip in the hot tub. The view from the infinity pool was truly breathtaking. Unfortunately, during the time we were there the beach was overrun with seaweed so we were able to only go to the beach at The Reefs one afternoon. That being said, there was both beach and pool service. Who doesn't love a cocktail while lounging around in paradise?
I don't think I have adequate words to say how wonderful everyone who works at The Reefs truly is. They will go above and beyond to make your stay magical. From the ladies at the front desk giving us extra towels or warning us the walk to Horseshoe Bay beach would not be easy (We did take a cab back!) or booking a Twizy for us to Pedro and Zachary helping us with taxis, I have never traveled to any place with such kind, helpful people. The service and attention to each guest was unparalleled.
Overall, our stay at The Reefs was magnificent. There is no doubt in my mind why this family owned hotel has been around for so long. I hope we have the opportunity to stay here again soon. Yes, please!

Dear CTteachermom, Thank you so much for your great review and am very happy you had a great stay with us! I loved reading your review for many reasons, but particularly the great comments about our team members, as they are really what makes our property so special. Very happy to hear they took such great care of you! We are sorry about the seaweed invasion we had during your stay but it sounds like you made the most of it! Mother Nature does happen from time to time but glad to hear it didn't stop you - it thankfully looks like it has moved on its way now. We hope to see you back again soon!
