Salt Kettle House is a charming, comfortable and safe guest house. I can describe it as "home away from home". John (owner) and his 'furry assistant' Trigger, welcome you warmly and provide everything necessary that is needed to make things comfortable for your stay. I stayed at 'The Tower' room in the main house which had a balcony with a beautiful view of both the front and back Harbours.
Would recommend Salt Kettle highly if you don't plan to stay at a Hotel resort.

Our family had the most wonderful holiday at Salt Kettle House in July this year. Who would have thought that in the middle of a pandemic we would have the most relaxing, divine time!!! The atmosphere and sheer charm of the property is unparalleled, and the hosts are incredibly warm and accommodating, giving each guest the right amount of attention without ever invading anyone's private space and time. The property is located in a gorgeous part of Bermuda, completely surrounded by water with stunning views across the bay toward the city of Hamilton - we thoroughly adored exploring and wandering the small winding streets! The Bermuda centric Salt Kettle ferry is literally a two minute walk, and town is only a 15 minute boat ride. After the stress of working in New York, the beauty of Bermuda is a much welcomed relief, and just knowing that the Bermuda Govt is being incredibly sensible about testing, a holiday in Bermuda is very doable as a tourist (You only need to have one test before you leave the US or UK, have one on landing, with a few more on the days following, however you are free to roam the island after the results come through on your first Bermuda test, which is generally a pretty fast turn around - they are very onto it in a good way!!! Nb. travelers tip : a dose of Panadol before each test makes it a breeze! ). Bermuda couldn't be a better holiday destination at this very unsettled time, and staying at Salt Kettle House would cap things off to being one of the best holiday experiences you could ever have, at a very affordable price point!!! Philly, Tim and family

Salt Kettle House is a place that I have stayed at multiple times over the years when in Bermuda. The Lowe family are wonderful hosts who have made each visit most comfortable with their caring for their guests (many of whom are return visitors like me). The location is ideal for getting around being a two minute walk to the harbour ferry, and about five minute walk to the Middle Road bus. Both the house and its setting are picturesque. One can look out at the city of Hamilton across the back yard (that goes down to the water at Pruddens Bay) and look upon Salt Kettle Cove from the front yard. There is no longer a full breakfast served in the morning as in the past, but there is a full kitchen for guests to store their groceries and cook their own meals there if they desire. With Covid, they were conscious of island Covid protocols with the request for new visitors to remain in room until cleared by arrival testing (that was usually 6-8 hours before results available). During that time a hot water kettle was supplied as was information related to food choices with delivery service. After a negative result, masks were optional in common areas. Any questions about Bermuda- where to eat, or what to see, or how to get there? John Lowe who resides at the property is a good resource for that, and he is happy to assist with suggestions and/or directions. Best said about Salt Kettle is that there has been a feeling of being "home" each time I am there. It has been, and will continue to be my only choice of where to stay when in Bermuda.

John Lowe is a wonderful host. He greeted us with afternoon tea and took the time to introduce us to the Salt kettle House (and the resident cats) and give us advice on how best to see the island. His suggestion of the multi-day travel pass was spot on: With the ferry dock being only a few minutes walk away and the excellent bus system on the island this was the best way to see Bermuda.
The Salt Kettle House has a variety of rooms to choose from and access to a kitchen to cook as many meals as you wish. Its back yard is a secluded harbour with views of Hamilton and it invites you to stay, relax, and have all your meals outside. We will definitely return.

A terrific little place in a perfect location. The Salt Kettle House is the perfect place to stage your Bermuda vacation. Enough rooms to accomodate a large family if you book early enough. More than ample tools and fridge space to cook your own meals, and John is almost always nearby if anything else is needed. The beds are comfortable (The queen my wife and I slept on was 2 twins pushed together which is perfect if you have younger kids that need/want their own bed.) There are a few close delivery restaurants for asian or pizza if you don't feel like cooking for yourself but want to relax at the accommodation. The ferry runs during the day and is a 4 minute walk from the Salt Kettle House. Taking the ferry across the bay to downtown Hamilton is the best and cheapest way to connect to the bus or other ferry's to begin a day of adventure. Getting to Dockyard or St. George takes a bit of logistics to catch the proper connections but John is always happy to help explain the schedules and how to get ferry/bus passes. Of course taxi or scooters are always an option albeit less affordable. Resources in Bermuda are naturally highly limited. Rain is collected on the beautiful slate roofs that are so characteristic of the island, and electricity is oil-driven, delivered on tankers. Consequently, plan on conserving while you're there. Short showers, no guest laundry facility, and limit faucet time while doing dishes to keep this an affordable guest house in a perfect location. Air conditioning works well, but they do ask that you turn it off and open the windows while you're out and about. The picturesque views (google Winslow Homer Salt Kettle if there's any doubt as to the beauty), lovely host/hostess, centralized location and the affordable price put this paradise location on the map for anyone. Cross Bermuda off your bucket list at the Salt Kettle House! Thanks John!

We absolutely loved our stay at the magical and tranquil Salt Kettle House. Originally we were set to stay at an Air BnB in the area, but it was cancelled on us a few weeks before our trip so we were on a frantic search for alternate accommodation. I stumbled upon Salt Kettle House’s listing in a Frommer’s guide of Bermuda, and boy am I so glad I found them. John was incredibly accommodating, and luckily had a perfect unit for our dates - The Apartment, which is a completely self catering unit with a full kitchen (we are big on cooking, and you should be too in Bermuda as it can save you a ton of $$). He gave us tons of info on Salt Kettle and Bermuda prior to our arrival, even gave me a call to discuss beforehand. When we arrived, we were enthusiastically greeted by John and the lovely Bernadette, who made our stay all the more joyful and comfortable. The unit was absolutely perfect for our needs, and had a lovely deck where we had our morning coffee and all our meals while staring out into the Hamilton harbour. It’s in an amazing location, close to a ferry and bus stop so makes it really easy to traverse the island on public transport. It’s walkable (about 15 mins) to a nice little grocery if you need to stock up on anything, and we even trekked to Elbow Beach by foot - not a bad walk, about 30 mins and worth it!! Most of all, John and Bernadette are the most gracious hosts you could ever wish for, and truly make Salt Kettle the special place it is. I already know that when we return to Bermuda, we wouldn’t stay anywhere else. Thank you so much John, we can’t wait to return!!
Run, don’t walk to book this place - you will never regret it for a second :)

My husband and I just returned from a magical six nights at Salt Kettle House. It was our third visit, and the first for three other family members. (Most visitors are multiple return guests, which says so much.) John Lowe is a lovely man and wonderful host, as was his mother Hazel who ran the inn for so many years. It is possible to prepare meals at the house as each room has a fridge and access to a stove etc. We chose to enjoy breakfast there but ate out for other meals. I anticipate that we will return before long!

Our stay at Salt Kettle House was absolutely perfect! Despite many covid related travel issues on our end the owner, John, was so incredibly helpful and welcoming. In the trip planning phase, John answered any and all questions that I had about Bermuda, Salt Kettle, and more! When we did finally arrive at Salt Kettle he showed us around. The house itself encapsulates the old world charm of Bermuda that we were looking for on this trip. The location by the water was perfect for relaxing evenings in Salt Kettle and close enough to a ferry stop for incredibly easy access to Hamilton. From Hamilton you can get to just about anywhere on the island via bus or ferry easily.
We found our room at Salt Kettle to be excellent for making coffee in the morning and getting a slow start to the day or coming back early for a glass of wine. We also met several of the other folks staying at Salt Kettle with us and we found everyone to be incredibly friendly and welcoming. The house itself has a large cozy guest lounge, kitchen, and dining area. In addition, lovely views of the water from the front and back yards, it is about a $40 taxi ride from the airport as well.
In addition, Salt Kettle offers very reasonable pricing for all of the lovely amenities. I personally, much prefer getting a real taste of Bermuda over a luxury resort any day, and Salt Kettle was perfect for that!

Can't thank John and Bernadette enough for looking after us so brilliantly during our one week stay at their lovely waterside guest house and home. We rented Pin Point B, and a solo room just behind the cottage. The private, covered terrace for the cottage was perfect for sitting out for breakfasts and evening meals and we could swim straight off the dock in beautiful, clean water surrounded by the herons and kiskadees. The cooking facilities are simple but perfectly adequate, with a BBQ and use of a larger kitchen overlooking the gardens. Easy travel over to Hamilton via the Salt Kettle ferry at the end of the lane. We loved our stay here and hope to come back soon - John and Bernadette were so helpful and kind, nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommended.

The salt kettle guest house is full of charm and history and brought us back in time to where conversation, laughs and relaxation was the top priority of the day! John and Bernadette who own and oversee the property are attentive and knowledgeable. It is located in a loverly area, a quick ferry ride over to Hamilton. The area is safe! A must stay
