Nestled near the vibrant strip, shops, and beaches, Marriott's Aruba Surf Club is praised for its prime location, which is easily accessible on foot. The hotel's family-friendly atmosphere and variety of amenities are a hit, though some guests feel a modern update is in order. Despite spacious rooms, the outdated decor and inconsistent cleanliness have led to calls for renovation. While staff friendliness is often acknowledged, the service can be hit or miss, with some facing slow response times. Travelers also note that the cost may not align with the value, especially with additional fees and overcrowding issues.

The first thing positive is their employees from the arrival bellman to security, grounds and service staff maintaining the rooms. When we arrived we were given a room on the 11th floor overlooking the beach and the Ocean resort that was very nice and large and had great space.

Most of our days were spent on the beach and later in day would wander up to pool area before dinner. The biggest issue with this resort has no security on the beach as locals are walking the beach throughout the day peddling drugs. There is a guy walking two dogs with backpack on and another local called Aloe Man supposedly selling aloe as a front for drugs. And yes we did witness thes sales of drugs firsthand.

Upon return to our room we reached out to hotel manger on duty Jenny. First thing she states is Marriott is not responsible for what happens on the beaches in Aruba as they are all public. Jenny stated that she would walk down to the beach and check out what is going on and this 2 hours after the fact and everyone has pretty much left for the night. Jenny did call back and now sates she did have security on the beach ?

At this point we replied to Jenny the Marriott manager that the only security on the beach that we saw was over at the next Marriott resort being the Ocean. At this point Jenny replied she will have to have the her manger being that of the entire Surf club call us in the morning. Next morning we received a call from Jasmine resort manger with the same verbiage used by Jenny from the night before. These two managers have no business in management running a resort of this size and representin Marriott Resorts.

Surf has a happy hour everyday and drinks offered are very watered down and tasteless. Food that is offered also comes at a premium price but brought to your location weather be the pool or the beach. AS far as night life this resort has nothing.

Be advised of all prices at local supermarkets are very high and way out of touch especially beer, wine and liquor.

Chill local beer six pack 10.00. Case of Michelob light 49.00
Wine in supermarkets 15.00 +. Restaurants 40.00 +
Liquor at supermarkets small Absolute 28.00 same bottle Marriott Surf 51.00 Don Julio tequila regular shelf bottle 79.00
Cranberry Ocean Spray 7.50

Our future vacations surely will not be Aruba and especially the Marriott resort due to interactions with resort General manager Jasmine and her protache Jenny whom are total disgraces to this resort ! Prior to our stay at Surf Club we did stay a Playa Linda just two resorts away and yes they did provide daily security on the beach.

From our recent experience and reviewing both stays Playa Linda verses Marriott Surf Club I can honestly state Playa Linda is a better value for the vacation dollars spent on the same beach and we felt safer at this resort with security in place.

My family has stayed at Surf Club many times in the past and we are so happy to be back! We are nearing the end of our week stay and it has been nothing but relaxing and enjoyable. As the previous review states, the staff has eliminated daily cleaning due to Covid. We have traveled to numerous vacation spots since Covid began and none of the Marriotts offered daily cleaning service. I am totally fine with that. If you have a larger unit, you have a washer and dryer. If not, the staff will gladly exchange towels. Our room is clean and more modern than some of the previous hotel rooms we’ve stayed in. The staff was cordial and accommodating at check in. The only rude employee I’ve encountered is the lady who makes sandwiches in the marketplace store located near the lobby. When I requested a turkey sandwich, she made it quite clear that I was inconveniencing her. She needs a lesson in customer service. The palapas (huts) on the beach are first come, first serve and complimentary. It is so much easier than at Ocean Club located next door (you must call each day to get a hut which costs between $10 - $30 per day depending on location). Again, our stay here at Surf Club has been fantastic and we look forward to coming back soon!

I must say I am thoroughly impressed by how Marriott has gone above and beyond regarding COVID safety. I feel incredibly safe and feel they pulled out all stops to keep it that way. All doors are now on motion sensors so I don’t touch a thing. Automatic voice reminders play when motion is detected near a door to enter building reminding you to put mask on. Only one person in elevators at a time unless all family members. Even down to remote controls in room are in a sanitizing bag. Masks are all over when inside and many wear outside. All workers in masks in and out. Arrows guiding walk paths in each direction throughout resort. It’s a bunch of little things they did but all added up to well done.
Even beach chairs have a “sanitized” tag on them to know they were clean and unused. The little things are all over the place.
Regarding the hotel I went with my wife and 2 kids (8&5) and of the three hotels in the group this is probably the best for families while still being a very nice resort. We came with one of those packages that gives you a cheap stay for 5 days as long as you watch a timeshare sales pitch (say no by the way). So we added on to the front and back end of the trip to make it a full week in Aruba at 2 other hotels. The Marriott was by far the best property of the others I stayed at (Holiday inn and Playa Linda). Playa Lynda felt like I was staying in Cancun on spring break w a bunch of partiers who when you talk about Covid safety if I do end up getting Covid from Aruba it’s likely from the Playa Linda (talk about little things that Marriott Does, the Playa did not.). I guess you get what you pay for.

Our room at Marriott was a 1 bedroom and came w a separate living area w pull out for kids along w legs kitchen so it was perfect. I strongly recommend the Marriott and we will be back. Well done!

We visited this resort for a week shortly after they started to allow US tourists for my 40th birthday. It required a Covid test 72 hours before flight for age 15 and up. We had to buy the extra required health insurance too for just the adults $77 each for the week. We needed a vacation so bad for 2020 that is was sooo worth it. My kids loved this resort because of the lazy river. There is a pool slide too but all they wanted to do was float around the river all day and night. There were 10 of us, in three 2 bedroom villas
It was great to have a kitchen for breakfast but there are plenty of affordable restaurants to eat at within walking distance. You are right on Palm Beach, which is fine, but there are much better beaches within a short drive. Our favorite beach ever is Eagle Beach which is 5 mins away. You can't miss Baby Beach either...little bit longer drive but sooo amazing.
I highly recommend you rent a car because you will want to venture out and it's super easy to navigate this small island. We booked direct thru Hertz AAA rate since we wanted an on-site company.
As for groceries, there is a Pricesmart which is their version of Costco. They will let you get a day pass if you are a Costco member but they add 10% to your total. Honestly I wish we had skipped this stop because the selection wasn't great and grocery store wasn't that significant of difference. We liked Super Foods near hotel.
As for cash, they take US currency and you will need to bring it for tips but I just used my credit card for most everything else. Call your credit card to see if they charge currency fee as some do.
Don't miss Linda's Dutch Pancakes and Cafe080.
We fell in love with this island..it's great for kids and adults of all ages.

We just returned from our stay at the Aruba Surf Club. Great visit. The staff was so friendly, wishing me a good day whenever we passed. Compliance with masks by hotel staff and most guests was excellent. There were automatic hand sanitizer dispensers throughout the hotel and grounds. Most doors opened automatically so you didn't have to touch the handle. Rooms were clean and stocked with a few extra towels since they were not being refreshed by the maids. The area by the pool and beach were definitely full, but they did well trying to keep groups at least 6 feet apart. We usually went out around 8:00 to reserve our chairs for the day and were able to find some we were pleased with (we are a family of 5). If you're really picky where you want to sit, then you should get out earlier.

COVID tests (PCR) are offered onsite. We paid $100 per person which is more than we would have paid had we walked down the street, but we appreciated the convenience. We had our test results back in 6 hours.

This is essentially a hotel but owned by time share people mostly so there is no room service. I pay this kind of money, there should be some type of room service/tidying. We got oceanfront room which should be nice BUT the sand groomer machine starts at 6:00 a.m. and is loud enough to wake you up. The elevators also at the opposite end of building so there is a lot of walking to go to room once you get off the elevator!! You won’t hear the waves crashing at all either because the place is packed with people. If you want a covered chair to block the sun, you must be putting your “chair tag” on by 6:30 a.m. to reserve it. It just isnt any nicer than any of the other hotels and it’s priced as tho it is.

We are here at the surf club since Monday our check in was horrible after waiting til after 4pm for room we go up and there are suitcases and the room is a mess go back downstairs the girl at desk laughs we rented from an owner a 12 flr Oceanside room Great view they told us well give u 6th flr no view of course we said no I asked for a manager was told no they’re too busy finally get a manager Kim who was very apologetic they sent 4 people to clean and an then later we got the room. On the 4th day they tidy your room anywhere from 9-5 we requested it to be done by 4pm was told no problem at 4:45 went to room nothing done and the cleaning personnel standing in hallway laughing and fooling around. Upon asking why our room was not done she said oh I can do it now or not ????? Called housekeeping she didn’t know what to say went back down to front manager she made calls they will do it now . Such poor service and we paid a lot of money to stay here. On the beach many many unhappy owners and renters maybe Marriott spreading themselves too thin buying all properties around the island and not taking care of their clientele . It’s a shame.

Last year I stayed at my timeshare at the surf club and it was not good. What a difference a year makes. I can see that management listened and really did an amazing job fixing the issues. First I want to say that I was so impressed with the covid protocols that were in place. Everything was spotless sanitizers everywhere, Elevators were one family at a time, wipes and sanitizer in guest apartments, staff wearing masks. I want to shout out to the housekeeping staff. These ladies and gentlemen work so hard keeping everything clean and sanitized and do it with a smile. Please stop when you see them and say hello and thank them. They deserve it. The check in process was smooth. Got my apartment at 1pm which was great. The staff behind the desk is outstanding. Luzdary the manager and her team were great. Thank you to kyky (I think that is the spelling)for being so kind. The food was outstanding also. We are at the resort, ocean club and surf club. So delicious and served quickly. That staff outside serving you drinks and food with masks in that heat deserve your praise. They did it with a smile. Please tell them thank you and tip well. They deserve it. I had two issues with my safe and apartment but they came right up and fixed it and then they called to see if I was satisfied. Nice job!! Wow... what a difference a year makes. Our stay could not be more perfect. Thank you everyone for your hard work and dedication. I am in love with my timeshare again. The people on this island make this a must stop destination. If your thinking about it... just do it

We have been to this hotel several times over the years. The rooms are big. We always get the 2 bedroom unit when traveling with the kids who are 17 and 20 now. The units have a full kitchen and washer/dryers. Great location on Palm Beach. The lazy river is a nice treat for all. Excellent beach. The annoying part is getting a palapa on the beach

I had a studio room which has a balcony overlooking the residential and garden area in one direction and the sea in the other direction. I was greeted the first day by my personal concierge, Aisha, as my point-of-contact for any requests. When I somehow blew a fuse with my cell phone charger, the front desk promptly sent up an engineer, and the engineer repaired the electrical problem in just a couple minutes. Josh was able to handle 50 lb. baggage as if they contained nothing but styrofoam popcorn. When I was on the beach, staff helped me select a palapa and organize my sunlounger, chair, and table. I often holiday solo, and really rely on and depend on staff to take care of me and protect me from other guests. Arnel was my beach bar waiter who was very experienced (I think he was there when the architect laid the cornerstone) and efficient and serving me beach cocktails shaken with premium liquors to me exacting specifications, well worth the $18 charge plus tip. Helpful hint: 2for1 happy hour pricing on the beach bar cocktails. Highly visible unarmed guards at beach sidewalk entrance and around the pools and river. I am used to places with highly visible armed guards; but, I feel confident in the Dutch navy providing Aruba's island security, and the Surf Club property security seems ok , too. I had to use my electronic card to enter the Fitness Center, and sign in with the Fitness Center desk attendant staff, but I was allowed to bring in my dance teacher as my invitee no problem.
I do like the Surf Club, but it does attract NYer and New Englander guests who don't know how to slow down to island time. I miss the South American guests who already know island time.
Even though the bed is softer than I normally like, I soundly slept each night.
I've never stayed anywhere else on Aruba. I think next time I would like to stay at the adjacent but more expensive, Ritz Carlton, for comparison purposes.

It’s true there is an app to reserve beach palapas and it opens up at 5pm for the next day. It’s the only way to get palapa. It’s not that bad but is stressful because if you don’t get one (and competition is fierce), you are locked out until the next day. I recommend yo have multiple family members try to get them. You can only get 1 palapa per room so it won’t let you book more than one. .

If you don’t need to be beachfront than it’s really easy. If not you’ll need to get up at 7am to reserve or pay the vendors for their chairs at $50 per day
