The Birnam is one of those old Scottish Baronial style hotels that are very common in the Highlands, and it is of a grand scale and historic style. We got a very good deal for our off season room, and as such, feel it was good value for money. We had a good sized room, which wasn't particularly beautiful, but... More

Unfortunately this hotel is not one I can or am prepared to recommend! It has according to the literature recently been renovated! Obviously on a severely restricted budget. The walls are decorated in lining paper and painted they paper is peeling off ! The picture rails are dusty the bed throws are grubby and look like someone ironed them and... More

The hotel reporting as been just refurbished, would hate to have seen it prior as the refurbishment as not gone to decorating the rooms. They have just lined the walls and painted them. I would say that they only spent a £ 10 on each room. But the worst is that our key to the room open several other room... More

This hotel was last refurbished (according to the plaque outside) in 1994 and I do not think it has been touched since! Overall it has a tired and slightly run-down appearance. The rooms are OK but basic and again tired. I think they could also do with renovation. The wash basin is in the room rather than in the bathroom... More

2 couples away for the weekend. we were staying here due to the fact couldn't get another night at Moness. So we arrived mid morning so couldn't get into rooms until 3 which was fine. We had a wander through Birnam then onto Dunkeld. Couple of drinks later came back and got into rooms, we had opted for twin rooms... More

Excellent hotel within walking distance for nearby Dunkeld and across the road from Beatrix Potter's Garden. The interior was perfectly vintage with high ceilings, original coving, classic elevator with sliding cage door and turrets. On our request for an update, being as it was our anniversary, we were allocated a superb room with breakfast included. Manager David Laing made our... More

3 nights, 2 couples, exploring the area. This hotel is in the process of a bit of a refurb we were told, and to be fair it does need it. That said, it is comfortable, small but comfortable rooms, well appointed and very comfortable beds. The staff were mostly very good, apart from one man on the reception who was... More

Visited here with my wife for a short overnight stay at the weekend. Excellent central location convenient for both the railway station and road travel. The hotel is a large traditional Victorian building with considerable history. Our room was a reasonable size. All amenities worked and the twin beds were comfortable enough although perhaps a little short in length for... More

Just returned from a 2 night stay at the hotel. This hotel could have everything going for it, lovely wood panelling , baronial type premises. What it lacks is a thorough refurb and re decorating. Lovely brasses in door rooms that could do with cleaning up and polishing. That aside my wife and I had a nice room ( 102)... More
