A lovely, magical place, peaceful and perfect. The hosts are very attentive and the food was delicious. Our room was the most magnificent hotel room I’ve ever had. We would happily have stayed for weeks.
We stayed overnight here between stays in Jaipur and Jodhpur and we’re absolutely delighted. This historic family fort/mansion in the middle of a quiet village lacked nothing in terms of service and quality as compared to five star spots in the bigger cities. The family is onsite managing the property and they received us warmly and provided excellent hospitality. I think the meals I had there were some of the best I had in India - their mother’s special eggplant recipe was heaven! They also gave us a demonstration of Rajasthani turban tying which was amazing!
Amidst the forts of Rajasthan, Fort Barli is small but perfectly formed! A beautiful residence with courteous staff, delicious food and charming hosts. The fascinating history and geography of the region is brought to life by the family story of the inhabitants of the fort. We'll worth the journey.
My friends and I had an excellent stay at Fort Barli for one night in 21st Jan 2023 and were welcomed by our host Divyraj Singh and his wife. They were very gracious hosts spending time with us to make us feel at home and also gave a tour of the Fort and its history. The rooms are beautiful and the food is both delicious and plentiful. We enjoyed meeting the other guests at the evening event of live Indian music, singing and dancing prior to our dinner. If you ever get a chance to visit Fort Barli then I recommend it to you, you will want to visit again once you’ve been there. Thank you to Divyraj and his wife and their team. K. Owen
Wonderful historic Fort with great views of surrounding countryside. Rooms very comfortable with large beds and modern bathroom. Food consistently very tasty and reasonable priced. The owner and staff at hotel very helpful to make our stay more enjoyable. Many excursions available even though we did not have time to do them. Great experience had by all of us.
This outstanding boutique hotel on the road to Jodhpur provided a welcome relief from the madness of Jaipur. Set within a lovely village, its grand bedrooms and comfortable, restful courtyard provided a rejuvenating break that we wished had lasted more than a day. It provided one of those rare transporting moments one seeks on a holiday such as this. We were made very welcome indeed by Mr Thakur Umaid Singh and all of the team and fed to within an inch of our lives at dinner; which was varied and delicious. Another place where we wished we could have stayed longer. We wouldn’t have missed this one for anything.
What a treasure! Fort Barli is a real find. Beautifully and sympathetically renovated, this fort surveys the rural village of Barli. Run by fourteenth or seventeenth (can’t remember precisely) generation descendants, they have created harmony both within the fort and in their relationship with the tranquil village. The rooms are sensitively decorated and furnished to create a feel of a bygone era. A tour of the fort reveals much of its fascinating history and some astonishingly beautiful rooms and artworks. There’s a campfire in the early evening where you can take a drink and exchange stories with fellow travellers. This is followed by a delicious dinner which includes some family recipes. Many thanks to Kesar for being such an attentive and helpful host. There is a growing repertoire of activities on offer. We wished we could have stayed longer to take advantage of these and to learn more about life in the village. A great place to visit, to rest, to explore the quieter side of India.…
Absolutely wonderful old building. Great hospitality and food and a quiet village setting. Easy to walk around the village and very friendly folk. We would thoroughly recommend visiting and staying for more than one night as there is loads to do and such a unique opportunity
Fort Barli was a wonderful place to stay! The history of the place was fascinating and the hospitality was marvelous. The personal input from the staff and hosts really made the trip. We woke up early for sunrise yoga, had a tour of the fort, a bullock cart ride, walked through the streets of the village, swam in the pool, had a fire in the evening, and ate very well. Our family of 8 stayed for two nights, but we would have loved to have stayed for more! This is somewhere we would really like to return to.
An exceptional welcome in a magical place. Few bedrooms: guests are treated on a personal basis The food is excellent, the location very calm : a very good experience for us. We spent there just one night, regretfully.
