Luis was very attentive and helpful and his wife was an excellent cook. They also picked us up from the ferry and drove us back after for no extra charge. The room was large and we had a private bathroom and a great outdoor hammock area with a beautiful view of the garden. A couple of things that would make it better. Avoid the dogs......they are riddled with fleas and the bites you get off them are far worst than the numerous mosquito bites you will receive. The room is a sauna, even with a fan, there is no ventilation.....but if you open the window.......hello mosquito bite hell but I expect this is the same for any property on the island. Bring lots of repellent....you will need it. But if you are on a budget this is a cool place to stay. Basic and rustic.

This place is great for backpackers on a budget! Customer service was the best part of the stay, Luis and his lovely wife Liz helped us a lot! Luis was very knowledgeable about what to do in the island to save time and money, we rented a scooter from him, and also bikes, had a lovely time, room was clean, but to be honest we spent very little time in them, just for sleeping, this island is amazing! The scooter ride around the coast is a must do!

We had a fantastic stay at Finca Monserrath. We stayed for 4 nights in a private room with shared bathroom. The best part about Finca Monserrath was the owners and staff. Lisbeth and Luis just acquired the property at the beginning of December, and were amazingly hospitable. They were beyond amazing, and apparently still learning! Their go-to guy, Danilo, helped arrange everything from a rides, to tours, to motorbike rentals, and more. We have never had such great service from such a friendly team. We loved the location, about 2.5km out of town (about 30minutes walk) which was nice and quiet all day and all night. No light pollution so we could stargaze and watch the meteor shower. The property was beautiful, and the cows were adorable. The room was basic, but the bed was comfortable, and there was a table and hooks to keep stuff off the floor. One warning to travelers looking for luxury and amenties, Finca means Farm. Wear your shoes everywhere type farm. There was a substantial amount of bugs (great for us biologists), but wearing pants and sleeves helped a lot. We also travel with a mosquito net, so we slept easy every night. This hostel has some very nice owners. They picked us up from the ferry (the hostel is about 2kms from there). Breakfast was great. We booked a scooter with Nain, a local guy who does business with this hostel. Would recommend him every time. Fair guy who speaks fluent English and has some great recommendations for local food as well. Big downside from this hostel was the room itself. It was damp and very badly ventilated. Furthermore, mosquitos are a living hell here, which combined with the heat makes for an interesting dilemma concerning whether to use bed sheets.

We stayed here for two nights because of the lovely reviews. It's a bit of a walk away from town (not so easy once the sun is down) on a farm with some nice animals... but truthfully the room and especially the bathroom wasn't very clean and there were people talking outside our room at 5am both mornings we were there so didn't get a good sleep. It's too bad because they seem like a really nice family. They picked us up and dropped us off at the ferry which was very nice.

We spent two nights here and we felt immediately that it was something special here that you don't find in so many other places. Something warm and authentic. The family who runs this new homestay/hostel business are so lovely. Our kids had the best of times playing with Roberto and Monserrath. They really miss them. This place is not in the city centre but only a couple of minutes with tuk tuk, and it's possible to walk. We really recommend to have dinner here!! Highly recommend by our family. A very special place.
