Stayed here on a 'Dinner Bed & Breakfast' basis when visiting the area. We found this to be a really good independent hotel. We stayed in Rm3 which was not looking over the Estuary but was a nicely furnished room with a large v comfy bed and contemporary en-suite. The restaurant was full at night, obviously popular with local foodies.... More

Me and the other half visited the Thorn on Saturday night for the first time for about 3 years. Previously we've been put off by the tight table plan but last night we were given a really nice seat just by the right of the entrance door. The Resturant was busy but we were well looked after by the excellent... More

My husband and I were out for the day and found this restaurant by accident. Glad we did the seafood soup was excellent, as was the steak pie . Staff were very good. We will definitely go back. Recommended.

Unfussy food and decor. Solid and sound cooking. Excellent GF bread! Reasonable bill. Plenty to enjoy about this restaurant! We went back twice over a long weekend. Recommend. They have a 2 or 3 course menu very reasonably priced. Food served with healthy helping of veg. Hake served with lentils rather than potatoes which made a nice change. Overall, a... More

We had a lovely stay here, staying in room 2. This large room has views over the quay and a wonderful large comfortable bed. The restaurant was very busy and quite loud. The menu has a large fish selection. Breakfast was one of the best I've had while in a hotel, the omelette was the best.

Location by the road but upper rooms have a good view of the Stour. Polite welcome in the restaurant and as I arrived in the afternoon there was still a smell of fish in the restaurant but this isn't so once you go up to the rooms. Room at the top was very well furnished although as I am very... More

A new experience and loved it. An impromptu lunch on a friends recommendation. Big fish dish selection which looked and sounded delicious and some alternatives for non fish eaters like me too! Tempted to go back and be brave enough to try a fish dish next time and educate my palette. Busy for a Tuesday lunchtime so definitely book. Friendly... More

I am very lucky to call the Thorn my local restaurant living within walking distance. We have been here on a few occasions and have always had excellent food and service. The last time we were fitted in at very short notice for five of us. I certainly wouldn't hesitate to recommend for couples and families alike.

This is an old and characterful building parts of which seem to have been recently refurbished. We had a top floor front room which enjoyed great views over the river and estuary. It was obviously newly decorated with a large bathroom and effective shower over the bath. However being on the top floor there were sloping ceilings everywhere and being... More
