The West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation hotels and resorts are in itself a place for attraction. The properties are usually located adjacent to the tourist attraction places and is built within a huge area. The hotels provide you with a very convenient accommodation facilities at very good rates as compared to other hotels in the vicinity. The food here is very homely and hygienic and cannot be compared to the food served at specialty restaurants. The overall stay experience here was very good. Giving 5 stars to the property.
Our short stay of one day at Shantobitan was exceedingly homely. Stewardship of manager Raju Singh was at it's best along with all the staff members. Mr singh is more a guardian and less a host. I am again constrained to request Tourism Department to undertake immediate repair and renovation of the cottages and single storey buildings as hailstorm and earthquake are likely to pay havoc. West Bengal tourism is Gold Mine. A holistic look into it is sure to generate revenue and employment. May God endow good sense. GANGESH CHOUDHURI. EX- Assistant Director. Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi.
The property as well as the food is good. Has ample car parking space. 10 minutes from Bolpur station by toto. A good hotel to stay at Bolpur / Shantiniketan. One thing to be kept in mind that, normally you will get good service, but if there is any issue they do not think about "apology" or saying "sorry" or trying to do "service recovery". They simply ignore it. So you need to be mentally prepared for ignoring if any issue happens. The problem may not be resolved whatever happens to you, be it waste of a day or any health issue. The attitude to some extent is that they are doing a favour by serving you.
The property is vast and beautiful. The food is excellent. Specially the Bengali version of it. The new building is clean and no less than a private hotel. The amenities are appropriate. Washrooms are clean and sharp. Some rooms may be tad small, but no a big problem. Room service, electric kettle available.
We booked this lodge for two nights and only stayed one. It looks so nice on the outside with beautiful coloured flowers in gardens and pots. Inside is another story, It needs a good make over and is not clean. Our bed sheets were not washed we put our dupatas over the bed and even had to cover the pillows. It could be made nice if they cleaned it up. The food was fine and the staff very helpful and friendly. All it needs is some serious 'Elbow Grease'
During our recent visit to Shantiniketan we booked the Tourist Lodge by sheer chance. On reaching it was a grand surprise - the ambiance, flowers, spotless rooms, facilities and the cooperation of the staff were all exceptional. We could not have been happier even in a 5-star hotel and that at perhaps a quarter of the cost. On top of it the food in the restaurant was excellent and very reasonably priced. This place should be the first choice of anyone visiting Shantiniketan for pleasure.
Honestly I am short of words to describe Shantobitan - our 4 days stay at this place was an amazing experience. The services, food, staff and especially the Manager (Mr. Raju) all deserve 5-star. I could even give more stars. Thanks everyone at Shantobitan for making our stay so enjoyable. God bless you all.
Shantobitan (also referred to by its old name 'Santiniketan Tourist Lodge') is an excellent resort owned and operated by the West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation. Currently, the resort has a few standard and deluxe cottages. More rooms would get added soon. With open spaces, lawns and an ever helpful staff, this is a great place to stay when you come to explore Santiniketan. The restaurant has a limited menu and is designed primarily for the Bengali palate. Just a word of caution. The resort does not have a travel desk, and many people get deceived by the battery-powered vehicle ("Toto") operators in the name of a "guided tour of the university" and end up shelling out a lot of money for virtually nothing. It's advisable to use these "Totos" for point-to-point rides (shared or full vehicle reservation) but not for a guided tour. If you need a car, contact one of the travel agencies near the university. If you need a guide at the Visva-Bharati University, reach the university and take one of the guides from the "Chhatimtala" or the Museum. The Museum is closed on Wednesdays & Thursdays. Ignore the Toto guys who would promise to take you to all the places in the university. It's a scam. In any case, you have to cover all the places on foot, and they are quite close to each other. Entry timings for various places within the university campus depend on whether the academic session is on and class timings. Instead of depending on the Toto operators for advice (in all probability, they would tell you that all departments are accessible if you hop on their vehicles), ask the security guards at the department gates about visitor timings.…

It used to be very good and was one of the only good stay options in Shantiniketan. Now with a rebranded tourism department of West Bengal, this tourist lodge has become even better. Lot more professional without losing out on the personal touch. Lovely cottages with all amenities and terrific food, including a complimentary breakfast. In case, you don't get a booking here, at least come here for lunch or dinner. And do have the spectacular Chicken Roast.
