We stayed in Rangamati for 1 night. The reception guys were average. Had to wait long at the time of check-in and check-out. Service was average. Food was okay. Would suggest don't go with much of expectation. Overall, our stay was okay.

This is a well-located place within walking distance of the many places of tourist interest in Santiniketan. The rooms have basic amenities and toiletries with a touch of the old world -- e.g., steel pail. There is good free wifi. The cable TV does not have some standard channels such as DD Bangla, or BBC World and CNN International, but many other popular ones are available. There are enough power outlets for chargers but there is no 15 amp plug point -- so a room-heater, even if available, cannot be used in the room. The behaviour of the staff is very cordial. The rooms facing the road can be quite noisy at all hours.

The room wasn't particularly big but it was clean and well maintained. Amenities like bathroom, AC were functional too. There is no lift in the hotel. The restaurant serves good food and room service was satisfactory.

Booking this property was an impromptu decision after a disaster with my Airbnb booking......walked in, asked for availability, checked out the rooms and booked....stayed with family for 2 days.
The location is good, near to the Shantiniketan Tourist Lodge, conveniently placed just opposite to a toto stand. The rooms are nice, clean and cozy, though some of the rooms are rather on the smaller side. The best part are the service and behavior of the staff. They have a restaurant which primarily offers Bengali cuisine (thalis) and some basic Chinese fare, but found the quality and taste to be much better that other places around. The hotel does have some shortcomings like small rooms, no breakfast in room, no proactive housekeeping, etc., but the staff overcame all of this by good service and willingness to be of help. My experience at this property has been very good and would recommend it to everyone, not to mention.....would definitely consider this to be my first preference on my next visit as well.

Nowadays it's become the custom with almost every hotel in shantiniketan to charge for 2 nights or 3 nights if you are travelling there on a weekend and have monday also as a public holiday. We stayed there on 21st night only and after deciding not to pay for 2 nights when we were only staying for 1, we choose Rangamati tourist lodge. Booked it from their kolkata booking office in lake town. They are owned by Hotel Host International, Kolkata.
The reception is tastefully decorated and so is the restaurant. I was amazed at the public washrooms which could put a lot of hotels to shame .....they were spotless clean. We were staying at a.c. rooms which were equally well done with a comfortable bed, LCD tv , a built in dressing table with mirror in the wall and cupboards with blankets .Towels were provided alongwith shampoo, soap and mosquito mats. The bathroom was spacious with towel rack and a huge geyser so that hot water was available for 24hrs.Every room comes with a balcony and even though the hotel is right on main road the balcony was clean with no bird droppings !!
You can book a car from the hotel to pick you up from the rail station and can use the same car for sightseeing.
Only drawback is the restaurant....if you are a foodie and used to authentic bengali food then donot eat there.Venture out to the supermarket area where there are plenty of eateries.
Location is another thing which would earn this anotehr 5 star. You walk 4-5 mins and you come accross all shops and market places.

Rangamati Tourist Lodge is located in prime area opposite West Bengal Govt Tourist Lodge. It is central spot in Bolpur and all facilities are within a short distance.
It is one of older generation Budget hotels, where lift was not compulsory..
Rooms are narrow. The premium room, we were offered, -- had a room of width only 9 ft.It is uncomfortable for those, who are used to a better travel experience.
The front side rooms are subjected to noise pollution throughout day and night, making it impossible to sleep due to electric horn of buses and trucks.
Linens used are very old and some are torn. Were told that management has taken action to replace the linen.we shifted to a backside room but the backside rooms had no view at all and we preferred to keep windows closed
Restaurant ambience is average and looking shabby, even food quality was not up to the mark.
On the positive side , the hotel is very clean and spotless. bedsheets and towels were changed daily.
Apart from Linen, some infrastructure are required to be updated to remain competitive against competition from newer hotels.
In short, this hotel with TV , A/C, attached bathroom and being centrally located may be suitable for budget conscious tourists but not for those ,seeking comfortable accommodation .
