"Mon chasa"......the niche where the human spirit discovers freedom and expression.
Nestled along the bank of the Bagda river, Monchasha will transcend you to a world of fresh air, colourful blooms, green boughs, happy faces and endless moments of peace and tranquility. The place has been aesthetically preserved in its own ecosystem, with bamboo huts which boast of an airy room, a tiny balcony overlooking the river and a common veranda for the evening gup shups. The food is quintessentially bengali, with its rich flavour and matchless taste. As you take an early morning stroll , you cannot miss the aroma of the dew drenched earth, the musical chirps of the birds and the lung fulls of unpolluted air. The almost centrally located pond will invite you for an idle day in fishing while the little ones will be greedy to run around or swing on the swings. A day or two would never seem enough to have your fill of this beautiful place. Because, as they say, A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions. And that's what Monchasha is about, it epitomises it's name to full honesty, a rejuvenation for your soul.

I came to know about this fantastic place from one of my clients. Monchasa is built around the eco-tourism concept and this resort created the old charm of a traditional village in Bengal.
There are four cottages and each cottage can accommodate 4 people. Bamboos are primarily used for making the cottages and the good part is, it exactly gives you the exact feel of a rural home. Staffs are homely and are experts at their craft. The food is super great and delicious. They served us a nicely decorated meal during lunch and puffed rice with pakoras in the evening snacks along with tea. Dinner and breakfast were also a traditional Bengali style. All the vegetables and fish items that are served are from their own garden which is there in their backward.
I recommend you should visit this place to get away from the urban jungle. The place is not very far and is on the Kolkata Digha highway route.

Overwhelmed with the excellent service of Monchasha. This place is for those who seeks natural & peaceful stay option. Enjoy our night stay here. A perfect example of agro ecotourism. River Bagda is just 20 feet from your bed. Homemade food offered. A gem on bengal tourism map.

The reviews we saw and on the basis of which we planned a trip to Monchasha didn’t turn out to be so good for us… Our stay over there makes me feel that all those reviews are cooked up… the pictures of the cottages that you see on their webpage are very old… the hay that were laid on the roofs, probably, have not been changed for ages.. The cottage walls are all bamboo with large gaps in it… specially where the roof meets the wall, it’s a gap through which a standard size animal can get into the room… The menace, at the time, when we visited the place on 24th December was the rats… those big rats were all over on the bamboo frames of the rooms.. the kids got panicked and we had a hard time to make them stay there even for that night… we took a decision to leave the place the next day even though our booking was for two days.. the next morning we realized those rats nibbled through two of the bags that had some food inside… fortunately we had shifted all other bags with foods into our cars the previous night…
And when all these were happening we called one Mr Debashis… this person, supposedly, the remote manager, started preaching us about the concept of eco tourism…. And we all have it recorded… the following are few points from him..
1) We don’t understand what eco tourism is
2) Rats are supposed to be there anyway
3) We need to explain to our children about this ecosystem and ask them not to get scared
4) They don’t use rat poisons not to hamper the ecological balance
Our Answer was
1) You need to at least secure the rooms where you are sleeping at night
2) A localite said the pesticides are used regularly. Hence Debashis’s version on the usage of pesticide is wrong. It was somehow not used for some period.
3) This is not a no-profit, environment friendly org kind of thing, hence, you should listen to the visitors if they have any issue and try to resolve it
4) No letter to Mr Debashis would help because it would fall into the deaf ears of his employers, who entrusted him to behave uncourteously with the customers
5) Had it not been winter they would have even said the snakes were also supposed to be there.
Anyways, we left the next day… we didn’t get any refund as they took the entire payment (including food bills – 5 days before the trip) upfront.
Another surprise that we had the same morning was the drivers’ dormitory. It was very untidy and the toilet beside it was completely soiled and it didn’t have any water supply to it. As per them that is an emergency toilet. Only after we complained they cleaned the toilet and put some buckets of water there.
We would never think of visiting this place again, not even in our dreams.

Monchasha is a really wonderful place which is situated at the village named Paushi in Purbo Medinipur. Monchasha represents a beautiful and Eco- friendly environment along with food and hospitality. In this place we can find the real meaning of the beauty of Nature as it is surrounded with a small river and the beautiful garden. It is the best place where we can spend our holidays with our family and friends. Monchasha is a quite calm tourist spot where we can enjoy our summer, winter and most beautiful Monsoon. If you want to create a colorful canvas or to create some poetical lines to decorate your dreams, you have to come Monchasha to spend few days of monsoon and few nights of full Moon. মনচাষা Monchasha can help you to grow your energy and can give a lot of oxygen to refresh your mind and heart.

Around 3.5 hrs drive away from Kolkata, it is an ideal place to relax for a day. Since we travelled as a group of friends, we did not mind staying for an additional day. The huts were nicely built (not sure how eco friendly they actually are), temperature was moderate and the place was surrounded by lots of trees. Staff were very polite and helpful and food served was excellent. Cost was slightly on the upper edge.
From Monchasha you can also travel to nearby beaches like Digha, Mandarmani etc. for sometime. Overall an experience to remember.

If you are tired with the city life, Monchasha is the place to be. Staying in the huts with the thatched roof is quite a refreshing experience. The Bengali food served was tasty. The place is filled with greenery. Overall its an excellent place to unwind.

Visited during September 2013.
Summary: Definitely not worth the money you pay given the state of affairs there - ill managed, unclean property which needs immediate attention and restoration.
Probably am the first one to write a negative feedback regarding this property. But in order to promote healthy tourism, you need to point out the problems for corrective actions to be taken so that others can have a better stay. Below are some of the details ->
Details:
1. There is a central courtyard sort of an arrangement. Till yesterday it was filled with weeds and rather tall grass all over. The first impression itself thus give you a sign of something that is not looked after properly
2. Adding to point 1, there is inadequate lighting. So after nightfall it is really risky to come out. We have seen snakes multiple times though the 3 workers at the resort were quite adamant that there are none which sounded rather funny. Also there was no indication that bleaching powder / carbolic acid and similar such protective stuff has been put in use in the property.
3. There are regular occurrences of rats entering the room and eating out the cotton seeds from the pillows. This happened on both the days. If this is a regular occurrence, as stated by the workers there, I would expect protective measures like iron net cladding to be put in place which simply was not there. No one in his or her senses would visit a resort to get bitten by rats !! With small kids in tow, that is extremely scary.
4. Toilets were unclean - the 3 member staff there definitely were not the ones who are maintained to clean toilets. And there were no sign of any sweeper visiting the premises during our 2 days stay there. You could smell the stench coming from adjoining toilets from where guests had left - probably it is just some bucket-full of water splashed in between the 2 sets of guests. Utterly unhygienic if that indeed is the case which I suspect to be the case.
5. No protective fences guarding the 2 ponds and the way to the river. Again for grown ups that is not an issue at all but with energetic kids who prefer to run around a lot, this is a risk factor. The water level in the ponds within the property was hardly a few inches below the bank and these have been left totally unguarded. A small mis-step and you are in big trouble.
6. Food: Food was good but nothing exceptional given the price point at which it was served. To add to that we were served the previous day's "Potol Postow" the next day after treating it with some curd and pushing it as "Doi Potol Postow". May go unnoticed to folks who do not know how to cook or are unfamiliar to these dishes but not for us. Also no facilities to keep milk / basic fruits like bananas in the resort though the local market is hardly 5 minutes walk. You need these to cater to people of all ages.
7. Staff Attitude: It was quite evident that the staff were just put in to work without the basic trainings that one would expect in the hospitality industry. Am stating these after staying in hundreds of hotels / resorts / camp sites of all kinds over the last 20+ years - road side tents and shanties in remote Spiti Valley to 7 star properties in Switzerland. For example, in the morning when we asked for milk for the 2 kids, we were told that there is no provision for the same and it need to be fetched and were advised that we would need at least 1 litre [morning + evening] and we said OK. In the evening when we asked for milk, we were told that we did order only half a litre and so there is no milk. One does not expect the staff to lie blatantly like that and go on arguing unnecessarily. In a similar vein, we were asked what we would like for breakfast - and after we had put our suggestions, the next day we see only part of it served and no mention about the other part. Lastly, the staff being not local, were totally clueless when asked any question. We knew about an old temple in the vicinity but when asked they pointed us to a direction to go and ask locals if we need further help. After a while when we met somebody local and enquired about the same, we were told that we have been directed wrongly.Typically any good resort these days have some sort of activities planned for the guests [at extra charge maybe] but no such arrangements seem to be in place - nor the staff could inform us about.
I can go on but this is just to highlight the major points. I went there precisely based on the good feedback I heard from friends and colleagues who had visited it last year. Looks like the owners are just after making money - cutting corners and reaping off the good name they have made in the initial days of their foray. Hope good senses prevail and corrective actions are taken at the earliest with proper earnest.

If you are asking about the room rent, we went in Jan 2018 and had a non-AC room (4 Persons) for Rs 3500. Food is separate (Total around Rs 1000), Bengali traditional menu. Driver's accommodation is available against charges (Rs 700 per head).
Hope this helps.
Rate was Rs. 3000/- per day per room around a year ago. Rooms contain two double beds .. large enough to accommodate 4 / 6 persons. Fooding charges extra .. so far I remember it was around Rs. 600 / 650 per day per head (all meals).
