I stopped at the cabins when section hiking the AT. Room was clean and warm. Staff was friendly, but I was not pleased to find a mouse in the room in the morning, particuarly because it got into my food. I am familar with "rodent proofing" my food supplies in rustic PATC cabins

My partner and I stopped at the camp store to re-supply during our backpacking AT section hike through the Shenandoah National Park (SNP). Gina was extraordinarily helpful as we picked out lunch items, cool beverages and microwave sandwiches. The prices were very reasonable. We a

You pass the cabins on the way in to the campground at Lewis Mountain. The cabins have cook areas attached with the cabins on the outside. There are no kitchens inside the cabin. This adds to the adventure of going outside to make a pot of coffee or cooking your meal. It is a

Stayed for a week in July. Excellent service from the guys at the small shop. Kept the shop open long after closing time to accommodate hikers. Gave great advice and were very friendly. Cabins were well maintained. Also tent sites available. Great stop for hikers. Will definitely

Super friendly staff. Cabins are a bit old but very comfy. You have heating which comes in handy in the evening when it gets chilly. The patio at the back of the cabin was fantastic. Did a bbq there one evening. If you are visiting shenandoah stay at these cabins !

I will fly into Charlottesville to hike Inn-to-Inn and do not want to rent a car. What is the best way to get to the cabins? If Uber/taxi/shuttle is not available and I have to rent a car, is there a shuttle between Lewis Mtn Cabins, Big Meadows, Skyland, and Thornton Gap so that I can move my car between hikes?
Call Stanimals Hostel and Shuttle Service. They shuttled us from Thornton Gap back to our car at swift run. We met a few other hikers that were getting a ride back to the airport with them at Thornton as well.

Looks like some terrible weather while we will be there, suggestions for nearby activities to do while it rains?
So just down the road only 6 miles from Lewis Mountain is the Byrd Visitor center which you can easily spend a couple hours learning about the park and it's history. There are regular interpretive talks and movies. Just down the hill in Luray the Caverns can be the perfect experience for rainy days. Each cabin at Lewis does have a covered porch which many visitors simply sit back and relax on. It can be a great way to take in the peace and serenity of the park.

I see that the camp store has coffee. Does it also have breakfast type items for sale? Yogurt, granola, etc., Or should we stop at a grocery store on our way?
Are cabins available year round or is there a closure period?
Hello, I am the General Manager. We are open through the Thanksgiving weekend this year. We will be reopening Mid March for the 2018 season weather permitting. Thanks for inquiring. :) We are typically closed during the winter months Late November - Early March. Sorry for the delay..
