Great campsite, fun Lithuanian neighbors, comfortable and clean. Beautiful hiking on Trace Trail, crossing many rivulets. Just finished with toe surgery, so did not go for waterfall hike this time. Gorgeous raptors soaring above, and bear up in the treetops, too, eating the new acorns early Sunday morning! How agile for a large critter! Camping with my dog for the...

We camped at Matthews Arm in May of 2016. There was only about 8 of us in the whole campground. Very peaceful with a light rain. Our campsite was topnotch and backed up to forested area. Of course, it is always better when you have the place almost to yourself. We would definitely go back.

I chose Mathews Arm campground for many reasons rather than the popular Big Meadows Campground. For one thing, it is closer to route 211 which can bring you to Washington DC, the small town of Luray, and is close to shopping centers, restaurants, and historic areas. This campground tends to have less campers especially during the week so you can...

We stayed herein a tent for 3 nights andenjoyed the stay. The camp sites are a little close together, but we were lucky to have few campers there during our stay. There are several trails that begin at the campground and connect to other trails. The camp hosts were very friendly and helpful. We had a storm rolling in and...

I stayed here while visiting Shenandoah National Park. There are a few other campgrounds in the park and Matthews Arm is the first one if you are arriving from the north. There are no showers here, but there are clean restrooms. There are also no hookups, electric or otherwise. They say that you can use the showers at the other...

1) Each site is only set up for 1 tent on a 10 x10 ft "tent pad" which is hard small gravel. You can squeeze in more tents, but i'm not sure if that may technically be against the rules. Since the description says you can have up to 6 ppl and we had 3 groups of 2 we thought...

This is was my 2nd stay @ Mathews Arm. The campground is conveniently located to many variety of trail (On trails in the summer, take plenty of water 3 vs 2 bottles evaluations change, 1.5 miles can seem endless with evaluation changes, also bears are about. It is also about 2 miles from the "local" store..The Wayside. About 30-40 min...

We camped here Columbus Day weekend 2015. This is the start of the very busy leaf viewing season and the park was very busy. Much of the campground is on a first come first serve basis. Being somewhat local and needing 2 sites we come in Friday afternoon and reserved 2 sites- good thing because by the time we got...
