The rooms at the lodge definitely needed an update. Although it was clean and had the benefit of actually being close to everything along the south rim, I felt the National Park Service could have done a better job. Perhaps, having a large chain that manages lodging take over on a contract might be worth considering.

When you check in at a hotel your interaction with the staff sets the tone in my opinion for the type of stay I may look forward to. While checking in the kid informed me that I no longer had the room I booked 8 months ago because they over booked the rooms in the east wing that had the king size beds. That was stupid, don’t ever tell your customers that. Since I booked it 8 months in advance and called a week prior to our arrival to confirm, I asked him who were the people that got my room? It was like dealing with a 4th grader. He didn’t look me in the eye, didn’t offer an apology and seemed to be afraid to inform me that my new room wouldn’t be ready for another hour. That was another issue I had considering check in is at 3 pm and it was 4:10 at the time I tried to check in. The funny thing was he was training a girl during my check in.So finally having delt with incompetence long enough I asked her what would she do to fix this situation. The kid made the only bad descion he could ,he gave us a 2nd floor room in the middle of the building because that was the only room he claimed was available. I understand that it’s a poorly run 2 star hotel, I’m a tourist and I won’t recommend or stay here again. At least train the staff to throw out a fake apology or act like they care about there customers. In the future I would advise the socially ackward kid to Never tell the customer your room you booked 8 months in advance was over booked, Tell them it was due to plumbing issue , fire damage or covid19. That’s management 101!!! Accept for the room being clean and close to the canyon I would compare booking with yavapai lodge to be like booking with American Airlines.

We could not have had a more pleasant stay! The service was exceptional, from the front desk to the restaurant. The rooms are clean, comfortable, quiet, and truly capture the “essence” of the Grand Canyon. I would like to especially commend the front desk Manager, Catt, who took exceptional care of our large group. She is competent, caring, professional, and was a pleasure to work with. She went above and beyond to help us work through what could have been a bad situation to ensure we had a pleasant and memorable stay. There were 14 people in our group. We will all definitely choose Yavapi Lodge when we next return to the GC.

This is more like a dirty one star hotel than a lodge in a national park should be. The rooms are tired, dark and beat up. While the bed was comfortable the bedding was terrible. The sheets weren't fitted and constantly came off of the bed. The staff was neither friendly or helpful. The dining room was closed which left the outdoor tavern for dining. You had to wait in line to order food and drinks, which sometimes exceeded 45 minutes for marginal food. On the plus side the outdoor seating was great with heat lamps and a big outdoor fireplace Strangely the employees working at the tavern were friendly and helpful. The location of Yavapai is great, less than a half mile walk to the Rim Trail. If we were to return I would either pay the extra money to stay at El Tovar or stay just south of the park in Tuscayan

After reading other reviews I was apprehensive about staying at Yavapai Lodge. It turned out to be a very welcoming lodge and our room was nice. Comfortable beds and pillows, good tv, nice fridge, clean. The bathroom could stand some updating; however, it was clean and had a good shower with nice hot water. The lodge is close to the the Blue Bus East and Blue Bus West shuttles. It took about 5 minutes after catching the 6 am bus to get to Mathers Point for sunrise. There is also a path near Chase Bank that leads to the south rim. We saw several elk there. There is wifi in the lodge, not in the room. The food in the tavern is tasty and the burgers are huge. The two of us could have shared one and been very full. The lines do tend to be long. The grocery nearby is well stocked and a good spot to pick up fixings for a lunch or breakfast. The lodge staff was friendly and helpful. Because the lodge is a short bus ride from Grand Canyon Village, it is quiet and more restful. I would stay there again.
