Be prepared to drive 50 Miles RT from campground to village, but convenient to east park exit. We were in space 38 and the asphalt of the parking area was broken away. In the dark I tripped on it and planted my face in the asphalt, bruising my ribs. They need to repair safety hazards. First come first serve. We...

We drove up with no reservations. Got there around 11 AM and found a couple spots left. Great location, clean restrooms and running water. We drove in, found a spot and then paid for the campsite ($12) thru the self pay box. Its a great location, short walk to the watchtower and a 30 min drive to the canyon market...

Once again as at Yosemite, chosing the outlying camp site from the village one offers the best of both experiences. The East Desert View campsite still offers a gas station, market place, gift shop/snack bar and the Desert View Watchtower within a 5 minute walk of the campsite but just less people and cars to deal with. Actually coming to/from...

My family and I really enjoyed our 1st 8 hours at Desert View. Then the rains came. I'd rather call it "the monsoon's came". For all the reviews my wife did on the area.....she does not remember reading anything about what the locals call "the monsoon season around here in Aug and Sept". The campground was cool. Kinda close to...

The best thing about this campground is that it is first come first serve, so get there early! We got there around 8 am and it was filling up. We stayed in June and it was a little cooler at night, so bring a blanket! So close to the desert view watchtower with amazing views. We had actually booked a...

Definitely one of the cleanest campgrounds we've ever stayed in. Had no trouble finding a spot around mid morning. The registration process was very straightforward. There's no shower, but the bathrooms were very clean and camp sites were well marked and organized. It's the perfect place to stay if you want to enjoy sunset at the Watchtower because the campground...

Desert sage and trees make you feel like you really are in the middle of nowhere even with other campers around. No showers but it did have toilets. The water system in GCNP is unique so the fresh water is very good but precious. The Ravens are large enough to topple your ice chests so batten down the food containers....

This park was very well maintained and kept you away from the crowd. There were great little hiking spots with amazing views of the canyon right by your campsite. Make sure you follow the directions on the entry. Drive around, occupy a spot and then go pay at the self serve registration. These directions are posted at the entry and...

This campground, unlikely the other South rim campground, doesn't require a reservation ahead of time. It works off on a first come first serve basis. I get there on a Saturday morning and there were plenty of spots available or about to be available. We set up camp and had to drive to the visitor center in order to take...

This is a great last minute spot to lay your head at night. Just have to be there early. Very inexpensive. The park ranger was very helpful and friendly. The place was very clean. Bad part is having to drive 25 miles from the village and showers.
