I stayed in a cabin along the lake, and can't really recommend it - I'd imagine the rooms in the hotel itself are much better. Everything was clean, but the "cabin" was actually subdivided into four rooms with separate entrances, each just barely big enough...More

Like Many Glacier Lodge, this facility has also been recently updated. Our room in a 'cabin' was perfect in every way. Rocking chairs on the veranda overlooking the lake are popular and there is a vintage boat available for tours. Not a very scenic lake,...More
This lodge is a grand place to spend a few days in Glacier National Park. Very rustic and historic but with comfortable modern amenities. Rooms are comfortable with great views, the restaurant and lounge have a great selection with moderate prices. It's a Xantara property...More
We enjoyed our one night there. We stayed in a room in one of the cabins. Very comfortable and roomy. We enjoyed hanging out at the lodge taking in the views, looking at old photos and reading about the history of the area.

We drove the Logan Pass so I can't comment on the shuttle lines. Sorry, but I didn't pay attention since driving was our plan. Driving your car will allow you to stop wherever you chose on your schedule.

Sorry for delay replying. I would not just show up and try to get a room at Lake McDonald, cool place to even visit though. Columbia Falls and Whitefish are fairly close to the park. I would also book ahead for those.
