Still the benchmark amongst lakeland hostelries, excellent beers and a fine menu. Polite efficient staff always a plus and the no dogs rule deserves 6 stars! Lots of interesting ground for cyclists and walkers without.

Have used the Kirkstile usually for the end of one of the many walks in the area but had never eaten here until recently. Again while out walking stopped off for a drink and booked for an evening meal. Like always they are always busy but they managed to fit us in.t Arrived in the evening and shown to our...

The Kirkstile is unique among places to stay in the Lake District. Very comfortable accommodation, antique furniture, great atmosphere, friendly staff, no TV's in rooms (so a great night's sleep guaranteed), no dogs in the eating areas at dinner, all this and they brew their own ales. What more could you want? Oh, and it's situated in one of the...

Called in here for a drink after a good walk. Great selection of well kept beers. The place was buzzing with walkers and other visitors. Came back on a separate occasion for an evening meal. Excellent pub food with good ingredients. They also have quite a few rooms. If you want a meal you should probably book ahead.

We've stayed here several times and always enjoyed ourselves. Friendly and helpful staff, excellent food, fantastic view and walks from the door. Rooms are not luxurious, but comfortable. We'll be back.

We travelled from Manchester to have lunch-we ate Tatie Pot, Steak pie, Sticky Toffee pudding and Plum crumble and proper Custard. I skipped breakfast and am relieved I did because halfway through the Tatie Pot, I was full. However , I managed all the dessert. The TP gravy had the rich dark gravy which comes from slow cooking(not Oxo),and had...

I was taken here to lunch a few days ago, so did not stay in the hotel, though I would willingly return to do so. It's in a beautiful geographic position and, had it been warmer, it would have been possible to eat on the balcony overlooking the gardens. Inside is was warm and cosy. The staff are welcoming, friendly,...

Carlos, the bar man continued his conversation with a bored lookin customer who was trying to get away. He kept talking, at least five minutes whilst three of us waited at the bar. I asked to...

Stayed recently in the Kirkstile and overall had a great experience. The location and setting is lovely and the real ales and food was spot on. Really quirky old inn with plenty of character and always seemed busy. Only downside for us was the fact we paid to stay in the premium room but sadly the facilities didn't match it's...
