We thoroughly enjoyed staying at this family run hotel at the end of May 2022. Tina and her sister, Anna, made us feel extremely welcome and went to great efforts to ensure that we had some very good food to eat (we do not typically eat meat).
The area is one of outstanding beauty for walking, and even the views from the bedroom balcony were breathtaking.
The rooms and bathrooms were very clean and tidy. The beds were comfortable and the hotel was very quiet at night so a good nights sleep was easy to achieve.
I would highly recommend this hotel and we hope to return ourselves!

La Posada de Cucayo is a lovely hotel in a breathtaking location. From the front door you can walk into a mountain landscape that looks like a set from Lord of the Rings. The family who own the hotel go out of their way to make their guests feel at home and ensure they get the most of their stay. The food is tasty, home cooked and much of it is home grown. It is a very special place.

Amazing beautiful place! Quaint family owned hotel in the middle of a historical village. Everyone is friendly, beautiful surroundings, home made meals and lots of farm animals to keep you company during walks. If you can make it here, go you will not want to leave. My family is from Chandler, AZ USA and we will return as soon we can.

What a lovely place. Two nights of a 9 day tour of northern Spain that included wheat plains, the sea, the Pyrennean foothills and here, the magnificent mountains of the Picos de Europa. Reached by a beautiful hairpin-y road with two tunnels just before you emerge into the little bit of paradise where the Posada is, Cucayo is literally at the end of the road and has the most magnificent views up and down the mountains. The owners of the Posada are extremely warm and hospitable, the food is basic but delicious and everything except a couple of the puddings cooked from scratch and from local ingredients where possible. Good local wine, beer and drinks/tea etc available in the bar and restaurant. We had a lovely big room with great views, a comfy bed and a seating area with two armchairs. The walking from the hotel is superb; there are both 18k and 5k trails right from the Hôtel and, just up the mountain, a restored old mill that’s a nice 15 min puff up the hill. Unfortunately one of us was feeling below par so we only walked to the big rock and the watermill but we’d love to return for longer to walk more. The resident goose, Ramon?? and his adopted gosling provide entertainment and watching local people farm just down the hill in the amphitheatre of the mountain is absorbing. We loved everything about our stay. Thankyou all for your hospitality.
PS the wildflowers were beautiful

In the middle of Picos de Europa and far from anything that might remind you of the modern world, you will find La Posada de Cucayo. I stayed here one night in May 2013, and had a wonderful stay. This is the kind of place you want to return to.

The rural hotel is right by the winding road, with easy parking in front. A small village appears right around the corner, with more photo opportunities than you can count (especially right before the morning fog). The hotel has a restaurant and a bar where it is possible to eat both breakfast (included in the price), lunch, dinner and enjoy a drink. May was still low season (I think we were the only guests), so we asked to eat dinner at 8pm and breakfast at 8:30am (even though this was outside normal opening hours). The owners were all smiles and very accommodating – and we really appreciated the arrangement. I think the personal and relaxed atmosphere is what makes this hotel a winner.

The dinner was great – a big steak from a pig they had slaughtered some time before, served with a fresh salad and fried potatoes. A very local experience :) The breakfast was simple with toast, jam, butter, strong coffee and muffins. This was enough for us, but it is also possible to order more from a menu.

The room had a decent size, was spotlessly clean and inviting. And, of course, the view from the big window was truly amazing. The bathroom was quite modern with a bathtub – but with a rather strange window to the rest of the room. Not a problem if you are traveling with your better half, but if you (as me) are dragging your dad along it might be a bit awkward. The pillow fits perfectly in the window though :) The bed was very comfortable and it felt good to be able to sleep with the window open without hearing a sound.

I would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone visiting Picos de Europa!

This small privately run hotel is in a spectacluar location surrounded by mountains and with an abundance of wildlife. For anyone seeking a peaceful location this can't be beaten - don't be put off by the lenghty drive to this mountain village. The accommodation is spacious and comfortable. Food is fresh and largely locally sourced.
The owners & staff went out of their way to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable.

Service friendly, warm, and inviting ~ owners very hard-working, devoted to their establishment, and helpful in every way. We had encountered car trouble and were given kind assistance upon our late arrival. Views from our room and entire posada incredible. Meals were excellent; from included breakfast with additional available selections to beautifully-presented and delicious dinners w/local foods. Room was very comfortable in size and amenities. Cannot recommend highly enough - we are avid hikers from the U.S. and enjoyed the surrounding rocky peaks, ancient water mill, and quaint village with its decorative homes and impressive vegetable gardens. Stayed only two nights during our 3 weeks traveling around Spain, but would have enjoyed 7 days in this lovely valley and the Picos region. Once-in-a-lifetime event: watching a new calf being born! Overall, one of the best B & B experiences in 30 years of global travel.

Just perfect, the views are beyond description, the hotel is a wonderful old stone building with nice modern bedrooms and baths, the family just could not be any nicer, so helpful in telling us where to visit. They took the time to chat with us about life up here in the mountains over our FANTASTIC meals. A simple but lovely homemade breakfast was included and a little different each day. Dinners and all the food served comes from their farm so wonderful and fresh with free ranging chickens. There is so much to do and see in this region we stayed for 5 days and a week would have been better. We Highly recommend this Posada, it truly was a highlight in our 6 month trip.

In the summer we escape to La Posada del Cucayo to enjoy nature in a fantastic setting. We like the family atmosphere and friendly accueil at La Posada and spend the days outside and the nights chatting and resting. It is a very special place, far from the crowds and yet not difficult to find. Highly enjoyable.

My husband and I were only here for two nights during a two-week long honeymoon in Spain--next time we'll devote a week!

As one other guest from Valencia put it, this location is practically within the Picos de Europas yet there are no crowds. It's truly a hidden gem.

We drove 12+ hours from Barcelona in one sitting to get here. (Should have been 7 hours but we took the long route. FYI for anyone else who does, be sure to take the northern route along the coast instead of the southern route which ended up going through LOTS of mountains.) IT WAS WORTH IT.

I don't know how to talk about the amazing family, location, FOOD without gushing. I was in a horrible mood when we arrived and in a zen-like blissful state when we left. That was only after two nights (which was only one full day).

We went hiking in the mountains above the village during our stay, I don't know how to express in words what it was like...we were the only hikers. We ran into two other people at the beginning of the trail that were obviously locals--one farmer in a tractor, the other a villager walking her dog. Otherwise had the entire trail to ourselves. There was a little rain. There was snow at the top. Green hills and snowy mountains all within view if you just did a 360 spin. I have to agree with my husband when he says it felt...sacred.

Tina, Ana, Alberto, thank you for sharing this piece of your world.
