Thanedar is at about 80 kms from Shimla on the old Hindustan - Tibet road. Set at an altitude of about 7700 ft / 2350 M, from here unfolds a magnificent panorama of mountains. The farthest of them are cloaked in snow, others are deodar clad or draped in a soft blue haze. In a gorge, some 6,000 feet below and clearly visible to the naked eye, flows the River Sutlej. Thanedar & its surrounds enjoy a special place in Himachal history. In 1916 Samuel Stokes, a social worker from Philadelphia brought the first apple saplings to this place he had adopted as his home. One can still see the 'Starking Delicious' apple orchard that he planted there. Nestled amongst the acres of apple & cherry orchards that drape the mountain slopes in this region, is the Banjara Orchard Retreat - an eco-friendly getaway that will enchant nature lovers. There are fully furnished rooms, family suites and independent log cabins with attached baths and a well-equipped kitchen to cater to a variety of tastes.

Thenedar was our first stop in the recent Himachal vacation. It is not very far from Shimla, but far enough to avoid typical tourist crowd to ensure privacy as well as very nice views of the valley below and Shivaliks or Lower Himalayas around. This is especially a good option if

The cottages are very comfortable & well done up, the view from the cottages of the valley is very good. However the food is avoidable, best is if you eat out. Best time to go is when cherries are ripe, they are simply to die for!!!

Thank you for your review. I am happy that you liked our log cabins but some how you were not satisfied with the food. Had you told us about your food preferences, we would have gone out of our way to satisfy you.

Couple of hours from Shimla on the old Tibet Road is this gem. 12 - 15 rooms, overlooking a valley full of orchards. Lovely walks and treks around the place. A compact activity centre. Great views especially at sunset and night. Bonfires. Delicious food. And quite simply awesome

Great Food and very comfortable acco. Bang on the road in Thanedar and ample parking space for your SUV. The tea time discussion with the fellow travelers is also very good. The bonfire lit in the evening to enjoy the weather is great.

Thank you for you review. After reading your review I personally inspected all the bathrooms in the resort. I noticed that the toilet bowl in your room had rust coloured deposits which are caused by minerals in the spring water. Unfortunately it is not possible to clear these mineral deposits with the help of the cleaning agents available in the market. I have replaced the toilet seat of that bathroom. Thank you pointing out our shortcomings and sorry for the inconvenience.

Hi, Does the hotel provide extra BED for the third guest in the room. Some hotels provide only a mattress and the guest has to sleep on the floor.

Hi, I would like to visit Kotgarh in May 2016. I will appreciate if you tell me the tariff & how to book the place. We are four adults. Thank you
Apologies. I think it was Rs 16k per night per room of 2 adults. We stayed there 2 nights. It may be higher in may as that would be peak season. When we visited, we had the entire property for ourselves, no other guests
