This Lodge is truly special.Comfortable rooms with a beautiful view of the river.really great food, good service and an amazing wine list.. Check out the range of NZ Pinot Noir which is really fairly priced. The local area is spectacular. The proprietors go out of their way to expose you to walks in the forest, river and coast that are great...

Our family of five spent one night at the lodge. In the short time we were there we had a gourmet dinner, evening tour and hike to see gloworms, and a morning guided hike/kayak led by Jerry, one of the owners. He taught us a lot about the rainforest, fed large eels in the river, and made the trip fun...

I would be happy to rate this lodge excellent if the cost was one third of what it is, but the quality level is that of a good motel chain, while the price is five star. The hosts are laudable environmentalists and provide a great deal of knowledge about the natural world, but the dinner was dismal and the decor...

Dear Frances L, Obviously we don’t like to hear words like ‘dismal’ used to describe the Wilderness Lodges. Thankfully it's not a description we hear often, as other reviews here demonstrate. You booked one day in advance through the concierge at your earlier accommodation and at his special request we waived our two-night minimum stay requirement. We encourage longer stays...

Wonderful experience of rain forest meets the coast in this secluded location. Very quiet and plenty of activities to join. We very much enjoyed the guided walk around the lake and would also recommend the walk to Munroe beach. We have never stayed anywhere like this and did not feel pressurised to participate in activities beyond our ability. Would definitely...

Very nice facility in a remote location. We enjoyed the kayaking and beach and forest walks. Limited menu but good food and wine and excellent service. The owner was on property and give some interesting talks and local insights on a short tour of the property. The buildings look pretty basic from the outside but the rooms are large and...

This lodge is fantastic in every way. The rooms are excellent as is the food. The service and hospitality generally is outstanding. We went on a couple of yours with Jerry. His knowledge and relaxed manner made this a very enjoyable experience. Finally the setting is truly beautiful.

Jerry is an excellent resource of the rain forest and Aaron took us kayaking observing a tree hosting over 100 symbiotic plant species as well as fresh water eels. Bring the Deet and rain gear. The property is about 45 minutes south of Fox glacier.

Everything about this lodge - the food (delicious), the dining area seating arrangement (make new friends), the bedrooms, the grounds, the lake and river and the forest that surrounds it all - spectacular! The staff were great and hospitable and the chances to learn about the flora and fauna of there area were true highlights of this trip.

Wilderness Lodge Lake Moeraki is an exceptional place to stay. It's close to the river, as well as the ocean, and offers fun things to do no matter if it is pouring rain, (which it did while we were there), or when the sun is shining, (which it did also). The owners, Anne and Dr. Gerry McSweeny have worked hard...

This Lodge is one of the best places I've ever been. The team and stuff is very friendly. You will not miss Internet or TV a second a day. Free tours are very nice. But payed tour with Gerry was really worth it's money. The lake is very nice for kajaking and the rainforest is just beautiful! Not cheap, but...
