Amazing experience to do at all costs! Take the ferry from Hiroshima around 5pm so you will arrive on the island near sunset. Once you arrive ask the info point to call the hotel and they will pick you up quickly. Super clean and traditional room (tatami floor, floor mattresses, linen set and air conditioning) Waiting for you you will find a traditional dinner to do wearing their typical clothes: do not be scared by the head of the fish... it is sensational!! In the evening, after enjoying sake, go out for a walk and enjoy Tori in all its glory. In the morning you can choose between a traditional breakfast (miso soup, omelette, rice and fish) or a continental breakfast (eggs and bacon, bread and jam). Everything really great and the hosts lovely: they speak perfect English and are super helpful throughout! Go absolutely to them!

Cozy little ryokan with fantastic, friendly service and excellent kaiseki meal. The owners are very kind and accommodating.
The inn is on a quiet street in Miyajima and it is so peaceful to walk around the town once all the day trippers have left.
We were in the Momiji room which had a great balcony and you could hear the stream nearby at night. We slept very soundly. The room has an cedar tub, too. Meals were served in a private room downstairs.
Western breakfast is available if desired. We stayed at a larger ryokan hotel on the island last time we were here and preferred Watanabe. We felt special and not like assembly line guests. Thank you !

All perfect. The pure Japanese style Riokan is run by two wonderful people. Upon our arrival they offered us iced tea and sweets, they gave us the room which had a wooden bathroom and shower and they gave us their typical clothes and flip flops to go around the town. The place is wonderful, a stone's throw from the sea and the temple. In the evening from the window you could see the deer in the front lawn. They served us dinner and breakfast in pure Japanese style with all the explanations. It was wonderful to stay here! Even the island becomes magical in the evening when all the tourists leave! In experience I highly recommend.

THE ABSOLUTE DREAM. Our travel agency suggested only one night here because you are sleeping on a mat, however we didn't find the mat uncomfortable at all. The pillow itself wasn't as great, but who cares when you're staying in a place like this! It was absolutely divine. The room itself just brings about a sense of calm and peace. You can hear the rushing water, the tatami mats and minimalist interior, just ignited within a connection to nature and the roots of Japanese culture. The food we had that evening is the best food we experienced in the entire two weeks there. It was a few courses, and delivered in such a perfect way. Our slippers were waiting for us when we came down to eat. So sweet. Miyajima island is also very cool, a great place away from the hustle and bustle of all the populated areas of Japan.

Our entire experience at this inn was top-notch from the initial contact through the final wave goodbye. Our overnight would have been a trip highlight even if the iconic torii were not on Miyajima!
Due to weather related train delays we had to keep changing our arrival time. We were given very clear instructions on how to contact the inn to be picked-up from the ferry when we finally did arrive.
Our 16 tatami room was gorgeous with a separate sitting and futon area. The auto fill cedar soaking tub was a delight after our long travel day. The dinner and service was exceptional. It was some of the best food we had in a trip filled with great dining. I especially liked the fact that the portions were not huge, even though we certainly had plenty of food to eat. After dinner we were told the tide was high, and it was a perfect time to see the famous torii, at night with no crowds. We had the same experience at breakfast after a lovely night's sleep - excellent food, and great recommendations as to how to spend our day. At day's end they drove through the swarms of holiday crowds to deliver our bags to us at the ferry. Excellent service with a smile.

A real ryokan located on the island of Miyajima reachable in a few minutes by ferry from Hiroshima. It has very few rooms I think four family run... people of extraordinary kindness... rooms and description exactly as seen on the site. Obviously super clean everything , well organized ( as well as in all the places visited in Japan ) . Upon arrival at the port they pick you up. Private bathroom with spectacular hot tub, dinner and amazing breakfast ... Beautiful experience of going to dinner with the Yukata and after taking a walk in the village where you meet only people staying on the island and the many deer that populate it to see the Miyajima torii symbol of the island. Surreal experience. The island in the evening is emptied by tourists who come in the morning or afternoon. The village is full of shops / restaurants but in the evening they close very early. What about unforgettable experience to repeat definitely.

We stayed 2 nights to experience a Ryokan - the owners were lovely hosts. Very informative about the hotel and the island and helped us with umbrellas one evening to see the shrine in the rain. They also offered to drive us to the ferry upon check out but we liked the walk before travelling so declined. The island becomes much more peaceful after the day tourists leave you to enjoy it!
We enjoyed our meals in the Ryokan prepared by the owner a lovely Japanese experience. Upon arrival that afternoon we took the ropeway up the mountain and took in the views and walked back down as the road ends at the hotel. The following day we did a day trip to Hiroshima we felt this was a nice way to experience something different rather than staying in Hiroshima itself. Note if you are a light sleeper you might want to pack some ear plugs and an eye mask as the room we had was over a stream and as is natural the soundproofing of a Ryokan is limited.

If you have a vision of what a countryside Japanese inn might look like, this is it.
Not only is it a charming building, but the hospitality of our hosts couldn't have been better. The kaiseki meal in traditional yukata (provided) was among the finest meals we had in Japan. It also gives you the opportunity to go and see the big torii gate long after the crowds have left the island, it truly is spectacular at night.

We have been travelling through Japan for over two weeks and staying in some ryokans (more traditional Japanese hotels). This is easily the best, most authentic, well run and comfortable ryokan we have stayed in. The food is out of this world as is the service.

A wonderful ryokan experience! The friendly, courteous staff and owner continually check to see if there is anything you need. The meals were delicious, beautifully prepared and presented in corses. Our room was very spacious and clean with the sound of running water from the stream below it. We loved the cedar bath, the comfortable traditional bedding, and beautiful robes. We were there only 2 nights and wished we stayed 3.

You can see the historical stone walls, Japanese maple trees, a small kid's park and a parking from the window.
And there is a small view from the bathroom as well.
