Absolute heritage mansion with basic modern amenities. Rooms are medium sized . No TV , internet was bit slow (I think it's BSNL BB). 4G coverage also will be feeble. Only the one portion of mansion is open to public .Could have been better if they allowed access to whole property.Overall well maintained retaining the old charm& Glory. There is an in-house restaurant till night. Dishes are mostly catered to non spicy pallette(even though we requested spicy ) , you won't get that authentic taste as in the chettinad mess's outside kanadukathan. Staffs are really amiable .Bicycles available for roaming around(free) also they would arrange Bullock cart ride (chargeable) , a chettinad museum and virtual walkthrough of history (both we skipped) you can enjoy. Even though free visits to two other nearby mansions were mentioned by mansion staff ; those housekeepers were demanding 50₹ per head entry fee(would be a waste of time and money so we skipped). We visited athangudi palace. Parking is limited to 5cars . Street lights are scarce in the entire block ( park at your own risk outside premises). If you plan to stay in kanadukathan this is the only heritage option others are all reconstructed properties .

Excellent service - everything else is secondary. You feel like you are staying in a palace and all your needs are fully taken care of. Staff are very polite, friendly, knowledgeable about the town, history, culture and food.
Rooms were spacious, very comfortable and all amenities were available. Good selection of food for breakfast buffet. Limited variety, but authentic local food was available. Taste was great. Coffee, tea and other beverages were available for order. There was complimentary welcome drink and coffee/tea/juice available with breakfast buffet.
The Mansion was rich in culture, architecture and heritage. Every wall, pillar, ceiling, floor had some interesting facts. The manager explained in detail the history of the town, culture and the Mansion. A video show is available explaining everything about the place.
A small, but rich collection of items are available in the museum inside the Mansion.
Video show, museum and tour of entire mansion is part of stay package.
Definitely worth staying in Chettinadu Mansion if you are looking for options in and around Karaikudi.

Beautiful structure, fascinating and intriguing. You eat an excellent dinner in the central courtyard. The rooms are unique and well furnished. The AC works well. A sign warns that the light in the area could go out and so it happens but it starts again immediately. It is an ancient luxury family home transformed into a hotel. It has a fairly nice swimming pool located not in the main structure but about 200 meters away. To access it you need to get the key at reception. The bathroom in the room is large and well equipped. The girls at the reception are kind and nice and the waiters are also helpful. On the other hand, I note an unpleasant final tension with the manager who was unable to put on a good face when he discovered that dinner for our group was included contrary to what he thought.

I recently stayed for 4 nights at Chettinadu Mansion, in Chettinad, Tamil Nadu. I loved my stay there. The hotel staff are helpful, the rooms are excellent and the food is delicious. I have to highlight the wonderful work that the manager, Mr. Gopa Kumar, does. I am a Professor of Architecture at the University of Brasília and my interest in India is to discover new places and photograph their monuments. Well, Kumar organized all the logistics of the temples and houses I wanted to visit, hiring drivers and tuc-tuc. On the last day, to make my life easier, he accompanied me to visit two temples, indicating the correct route to the driver, so that I could calmly photograph them before boarding again for Delhi. A hotel to be recommended to everyone who wants to discover this beautiful region of India. Cláudia Estrela Porto, March 13, 2024.

What an amazing stay, brilliant friendly staff. Nothing is an issue. Just ask and they will be more than happy to help you out. They have no charge pedal bikes so you can explore the town and map is included, all the local people are so friendly. The hotel is peaceful and relaxing. Amazing rooms with your own balcony if your looking for privacy, if you need a fridge they are more than happy to put your things in their fridge downstairs. There is an off sight pool, men need to wear a sari. Don't book anywhere else this place is Clean, tidy and you have your own huge balcony if you want privacy

Dear Melissa Thank you for staying at Chettinadu Mansion, thank you for the kind words. Located in rural India, where around 64% of the entire population of India dwell. Its a pleasure to generate local employment an empowerment for both men and women in and around Kanadukathan where Chettinadu Mansion, Chettinadu Court and Chettinad Packer are located. The staff are gently reminded that the best way is the smiling, humble, nod and correct action, to any request from guests. The properties are designed to allow ample air circulation, which can help have a beautiful and comfortable ambience. At the off site pool, guests need only wear swimming costumes. Looking forward to taking excellent care of family, friends and colleagues.

This establishment is a true slice of heaven. Entering the 100+ y.o. mansion is like stepping back in time to a magical era of luxury and beauty. Lush gardens, ornate decor and a warm welcome greet you on arrival. The communal lounge with its grand proportions, comfy overstuffed arm chairs and exotic touches set the scene for a truly unique stay. Our room was straight from the pages of Vogue Living: ornately adorned walls and ceiling, a large bathroom, dressing room and even a private rooftop terrace. And despite being in a small village in the middle of nowhere, they had the best Wifi access I experienced throughout India! Another good thing to note was there wasn’t a mini plastic bottle in sight in the bathroom - a big tick in my books. Dinner was a spectacular treat for all the senses: outdoors under the stars in the large central courtyard, wonderful music, amazing food, an experience to remember. Very magical memories- thank you!

Dear Ms. Liz Thank you for choosing to stay at Chettinadu Mansion. We appreciate the lovely, magical words. Mr. SA.RM. Ramasamy Chettiar, the second son of Mr. Sathappa Annamalai Chettiar (both their pictures adorn the walls in the front hall), is the reason and the only reason that we can all enjoy this beauty of utility and artistic, mega dimentional family home. Each of us who work here are simply stunned everyday by this imaginative determination of over 100 years ago. Your comments will be cherished always. This home has also inspired others in Chettinad to make similar or rather identicle Palace homes for their own families, those 100 years ago. As a resort group, the management is contionously looking for alternate, sustainable and reusable materials to replace plastic, thank you for noticing the same. Chettinad food is a treat and many come from different parts of India and other places, near and far to enjoy the same. Hope to keep up the good standards.

I came for lunch, a stop on my way to Madurai from Thanjavur. It was an excellent choice. I arrived just past 12:30pm, and the set lunch as about to start. It was one of my best meals in India, and the continue to serve as much as you desire. I contacted the hotel via e-mail for my reservation (the woman in the dining hall remembered my message). I would recommend a reservation, as the hall quickly filled up with a large group (I and an Indian couple were the other clients that day). Some might say that it is 'for tourists', but that is what we all were, that day. Food was good; ambience even better. Combined with a stop at the Sri Handloom center, made a great day.

The heritage of the property is so rich, you are in awe of all of the intricate details. Coming to the hosts - Mr Chandramouli and Mr Gopakumar and his staff Muthu and the rest of them treat you with such a warmth and care you want to stay on for a bit more. A must visit place and so much to see around and Gopakumar goes above and beyond to make sure you are comfortable and the highlight of it all combined with traditional and umpteen number of varieties fills your tummy but the love and attention is at another level. They make sure you are truly well taken care off. For sure to recommend and make sure friends and family visit.

We only tried the restaurant and regretted not having slept there. It is an exceptional, magical place with refined cuisine.
