Thakur Nahar Singh laid the foundation of Narayan Niwas Castle at Mehansar in 1768. Family has lived in the castle for centuries and now have opened its gates to the honored guests. Hotel Narayan Niwas Castle also popularly known as Mehansar castle is situated amongst the midst of semi desert and rural surroundings. Hotel Narayan Niwas Castle is free from all sorts of pollutions commercial or natural. And it is the most authentic castle of the area where no new building has being made during the renovation. Castle is becoming popular among the writers, fashion photographers and art lovers. Mehansar itself has several frescoed temples, havelis, cenotaphs and wells.

If you are looking for an authentic experience of what it is like to stay at one of the old Havelis in the Shekhawati region, this is the place to be. Quaint place with beautiful frescoes still preserved. Great food and staff. We also had the privilege of listening to the illustrious history of the fort from Thakur Maheshwar Singh himself. Conveniently located close to Ramgarh, and Tal Chhapar( just 2 hours away), and located in Mahansar, it offers a variety of activities to do. We explored the bylanes of Mahansar, Ramgarh and their beautiful frescoes, walked by the bazaar and saw lacquer bangles being made all thanks to the guide arranged by the hotel. Tal chhapar is a must visit on your stay here and is a magical grassland with the most gorgeous blackbucks and raptors.

We stayed here for a night enroute to bikaner. It's great value for money. It's a 300 year old castle, the current owners stay in it with their super efficient staff. The rooms are atmospheric , a bit run down, old walls with paintings, the heritage suite large and beautiful especially if you love beauty in imperfections, however a bat at times flitted in and out, adding to the sense of adventure we felt in climbing up and down many stairs, through galleries, open air terraces and passageways. It's more like a homestay than a hotel where the Thakur sahib gets a bonfire lit every evening under the starlit sky and chats up his guests and welcomes them graciously into his ancestral home. Stay here if you are physically fit, an adventurer at heart and a traveller by soul. Additional attractions are a sleepy, laid back village (mehansar) with an ethereally beautiful raghunath mandir, on its rooftop, we saw a gorgeous sunset and "sone ki dukaan", a soon to be unesco heritage site, with its beautiful Ramayana etched in gold.....very ably shown to us by our guide rajesh ji. It's a great place to be used as a base to explore shekhawati region. Do not go looking for luxury, television, pool or kids play area or if you can't climb stairs. Go if you love and respect your country, it's art and culture and it's grand heritage.

This is not a luxury property by any means but you get much more value for what you pay. It is an old palace, a bit rundown but authentic. The hosts are very friendly and the staff are very polite. We were driving from Delhi and the owner kept checking on us as we became late due to the traffic and road construction on the way. Right in the heart of the Shekhawati region, this is located in the village of Mahensar. We booked a Heritage Suite for our family of 3 and it was great: the bedroom was a bit small but there was a huge area outside with a lot of mattresses/cushions to lounge around within our suite. And one can go to the rooftop terrace to enjoy the view of the castle and the surroundings. The place was clean, also the sheets/towels were clean. The toilet was a bit letdown with cheap fittings and cheap toiletries. We were the only guests when we were there, the tourist traffic had come down drastically because of the prevalent corona virus pandemic. We had a great spread of Shekhawati food for dinner for both nights we were there, and the price was very reasonable. The included breakfast was made to order but was just average. The owner arranged a local guide for us who was very knowledgeable and at a reasonable cost.

What a treasure! Totally original and beautiful. Do not make the mistake, we imade booking into the place next door the Mahansa Fort which has little going for it. The village is still unspoiled and the people are super friendly. A great place to stay and get a real taste of India
