Kappad Beach resort is a short 40 minute drive away from Calicut Railway station and a good hour or more, depending on traffic, from Calicut International airport. The best thing about the resort is that it is just across from the main public beach and you can watch the sunset from your rooms. Staff were nice and helpful and breakfast had a decent spread. Food otherwise was alright. Rooms were nice and cozy though quite dated. WiFi was spotty and there was no phone reception in the room. And you had to wait for quite some time before you got any hot water trickle from the shower. The biggest issue was communication. They had initially agreed to upgrading our room to the upper sea facing room in the newer block but then refused to do so without paying extra. When I raised this with their customer service, I received no response, which I thought was quite poor. Breakfast starts at 7:30am and on one of the days when I went in early and asked for black tea, instead of just telling me that they were not ready, one of the staff mentioned that they would have to charge for serving before 7:30am, which was just plain disappointing. They need to take their cue from other resorts who go out of their way to prepare breakfast take-outs when guests head early for tours or departure! Their transfer to the airport, though at a charge, was quite nice thanks to a joyful driver, who was on time even though it was quite early. Since there is not much to do around the area, this resort is best for folks looking for a romantic getaway or a relaxing time.

We, 6 friends, had a get together at Renai Kappad Beach resort. They have beautiful cottages with balconies facing the beach. We enjoyed the food, especially the buffet breakfast. They have some minimal facilities to play badminton, tt, cricket, cycling etc. We enjoyed playing cricket on their lawn and swimming in their well maintained pool. When I forgot some of my clothes there, they even couriered them to my address.

We have been here for 13 nights & initially we wondered if that would be too long. We now wish we were here longer!
We were in room 404, one of the newer and more modern rooms. It has the best sea views & a couple of days we've watched dolphins play for hours from our spacious balcony.
Above all are the wonderful staff..everyone from Reception, restaurant staff and housekeeping.
Always smiling & keen to make sure our stay was perfect.
We have a late flight & they let us have a late check out which we really really appreciated.
There is not much to do in the immediate area but we were more than happy with this as we wanted the first 2 weeks of our month trip to be relaxing. Theres a beautiful large pool and the beach (uncrowded) on your doorstep.
Theres a bar within the grounds that sell beer and wine (the wine wasnt great) & initially can be intimidating for a woman to go in there..its not common.
However, the beer was cold, cheap and we met some great people there.
All in all, we've had a great stay here and will miss the serenity and beauty.
Thank you to you all

The location is fantastic. The next is the polite staff.Rehan who got the food was very polite and helpful.

Our room 304 had a trickle for a shower. A lumpy bed. Water collecting near the drain in the bathroom, fan working on slow speed. Staircase Bannister shaking.

The food is terrible!
We ordered golden fried prawns. They were fried in a lumpy Batter same with the veg pakodas. Chicken dragon was an apology of some Chinese tasting rubbish.

The breakfast is yuck!
Oily poories, a pish pash of the Aloo sabzi, oil laden chicken sausages. Stale pineapple in the cut fruit. Stale bread !
Even the staircase leading to the restaurant was not swept.

Upon complaining and asking for the manager I was told that he is on leave and on other days normally comes at 1 pm. No wonder the sorry state of affairs.

If you are happy with ONLY the location, bang on the beach go for it.Otherwise please avoid.

We had taken Premium room. Balcony was L shaped . If we sit in balcony, beach is right in front of you. Sitting in the balcony enjoying sound of the waves and experiencing the breeze is ultimate. Rooms are really good and user friendly and clean .Staff is also good.
One drawback is there is beer bar just next to gate. But that didnt affect us, since we didn't go out late night.
But we loved the stay and will definately come back again

Such a crappy place to reach for an eve's hangout! I was terribly wrong to choose it for a short-break and supper , for my preparation for the drive to wayanad. Exhausted from a 6hrs drive from kottayam, while asked for menu, they dont even have any items as its neither lunch time nor supper; thus the customer has to wait until their time starts. What a boring attitude the stFF has? But the outside view is really charming

We stayed here last month for a day while attending a friend's engagement in Calicut.. The room was clean and spacious and the balcony had a brilliant view of the sea.. We slept listening to the sound of the waves and loved it.. The beds were kinda hard, they could improve here.. Food was nice too..We liked the overall ambience of the resort.. We didnt get much time to check out all their facilities, but would surely come back here some time!

This is to inform prospective guests at Renai Kappad Beach Resort that we are the family that booked the venue for the wedding reception on 5th May 2016. We would like to clarify that the decoration and music where arranged by us through a separate event management company. The resort had no hand in the conduct of the event. We are happy with the co-operation extended to us by the management and the staff of Renai Kappad Beach resort.

We would specially like to thank Ramesh Kurup (General Manager) and his team for going out of the way in making this event a success.

Only fantastic thing about this place is the location of this resort.... Beach is right across your balcony and you can view amazing sunset from the roon itself. property is big and has some indoor activities and a nice swimming pool. Beach access is easy.
The rooms are average and the food not up to the mark (we were vegetarian so cant say about the seafood quality).
It is not a bad place for a short duration stay.

As this is the first reiew and this resort seems to hit few guidebooks I'll try to be as detailed as I can. If you want more info feel free to contact me direct.

We knew this resort existed and arrived without booking to take a look. We landed up staying for 5 days and found it a great place to relax and soak up the sun.

Background
This used to be a KTDC (Kerala Tourism Development Corporation) resort, but is now on a long lease to Renaissance of Kochi. It appears that they are trying to up the standards, although they cannot do much to the fabric of the buildings. This is not particularly a bad thing as, like many TDC resorts, it is substantially built, but just hasn't been maintained that well. So if they keep going with the improvements it will be good.

Buildings/grounds
There is a substantial main building housing reception and an upstairs open sided restaurant. Then there are four identical blocks of rooms, Each block has two rooms downstairs (sea view) and two rooms upstairs (beach view).

The swimming pool is reasonably sized, with a children's pool, and a few hammocks. Definite lack of sun loungers, but they told us that the new ones were due next month.

There is plenty of shady space under the trees, both around the pool and around the buildings. They do need to be a bit more vigilant about clearing up cigarette butts, etc. from the ground, but were very receptive when we pointed it out.

Rooms
All appeared identical, but the upstairs ones have a far better view - the downstairs ones can see the sea but, due to a substantial wall around the property, not the beach.

Rooms were generally pretty clean, although the decor was a bit tired, and the tiles in the bathroom not as clean as they could have been. Loo & shower in large fully tiled area, with basin in a separate area off the bedroom. Huge shaded balcony with two chairs and also a hanging chair. Fridge provided.

Restaurant
The only guidebook that we read that featured this resort said that the food was 'unexciting'. What we found was that the menu was not that exciting, but that once the F & B manager, Suresh, realised that were staying several nights and interested in Indian cuisine everything changed!!

As we started asking questions, they started to come up with ideas of things we may like to try .... this included a banana leaf meal along with various other Keralan specialities that were not on the menu. We only chose what we ate on the first night - after that we just told them to decide what they thought we may like and they did us proud - really good food.

We came away with recipes for many of the things we had loved best. They clearly enjoyed having guests staying a bit longer with whom they could build a rapport - most guests were Indians on tour who stayed one night only.

No alcohol icense at present, but they expect one before Christmas.

Service
This is where Kappad Beach absolutely excelled. Everyone seemed really pleased that we were there and wanted to help & be friendly.

Arun, on the front desk, was so welcoming when we first arrived and so helpful throughout and beyond our stay. We had problems with registering our Indian SIM card and two days after we left the resort he was still phoning and helping us to sort it out. 5* service for sure.

The beach
Beautiful sandy beach, with fishing boats. It was generally pretty quiet until the evenings, especially at weekend, when everyone came to watch the sunset.

The beach was cleaned every morning, although it appeared that the fishermen made use of the far end for their sanitary arrangments, so just steer clear of that end.

Nearby
You can walk out of the hotel in both directions to larger beaches each side of the one that Kappad Beach resort is on. As we walked through the village we were greeted with smiles by the local women and children but ignored by the men, so not as welcoming as some places we stayed. There were a couple of little shops in walking distance.

Buses went from outside the hotel on a regular basis, so if you wanted to do a bit of exploring you could.

Summary
Not a luxury resort, but a conmfortable welcoming place to stay. Much for the future will depend on how much effort/improvement the group that have leased it (for 25 years) put into it.

How far is it from Calicut town
Answer from Manoj N
Bengaluru, India570 contributions68 helpful votes
Please consider an hour of travel. Please do not plan to have lunch or dinner at this place, as you may not find good restaurants here. Even if you plan to stay there for a night, plan to have one good meal at Calicut and start.
Answer from Manoj N

I would rate the food as average. My visit was recent, I guess they were much better earlier. If you like the beach, the resort is good. My experience was that the beaches close to this resort are deep, and hence not very safe to venture into the sea. Calicut town has good restaurants, do not miss Paragon.
