Myself and my partner had a wonderful stay at Carnaween. It was not my first time but it was my partner's first time. She thought the setting was the most beautiful place she had ever been. But Carnaween is more than just special for the scenery. It is a small comfortable guesthouse run by an amazing chef - Arlene. The...

We stayed at Carnaween House at the beginning of September & we were taken away by the beauty of this area, the beach goes for miles with beautifully soft sand. On arrival, it did take some time to locate a member of staff to get checked in but we were shown to our room quickly shortly after. Our room was...

Sorry to be leaving today. Stayed 3 nights for a family wedding at the nearby Lake house. So glad we chose to stay here instead of Lake house. Fantastic location and our room had two windows overlooking the beautiful beach. Staff all very friendly with a laidback but attentive approach. Breakfast was excellent......you could have the Full Irish or tailor...

Went for dinner here and asked for a table beside the window and was told they were reserved. By the time we left, no-one had arrived for the window seats (2 hours later). At the end of our meal we were asked to move seats as they needed to seat another party near us. Not impressed. They then asked another...

This is beautifully located even on a very bad summer's evening. The white and blue décor gives it an elegant marine look. Our servers were kind yet lacked get up and go. I went for the homemade soup which was very good. My mains was a little too rich for me. We were there on a very humid evening; we...

Delightful location with some rooms having sweeping views of the bay and Inishkeel island which is walkable at low tides so you can visit the old monastic sites. The rooms are comfortable and the welcome is warm. Good selection of breakfast items either continental or cooked. Ask and they will try to accommodate special requests. Lunch and Dinner made from...

Where do you start? Quite simply this magical little gem of an establishment is superb in every respect. The 'wow' grin on your face as the beach unfolds itself while you drive through the gates, just doesn't leave your face throughout! It's light, bright, stylish, beach-glamour vibe is an absolute delight. Add in the comfiest beds in Donegal, crisp white...

Carnaween, Narin, Portnoo has a superb location with stunning views over the beach. The restaurant is decorated in a pleasing and fresh seaside blue and white but…oh, the food! My first course was described as salt-and-pepper squid, but what arrived look like tiny desiccated dogs’ t..ds or defrosted, dried up chicken nuggets. The lamb was overcooked and grey [defrosted?]. I...

Returned after an absence of many years. Although the decor has changed and a restaurant has been added the location and views are still wonderful. We had 2 excellent meals in the restaurant - very friendly staff. The menu is extensive and well priced. We had booked our accommodation at the last minute and the only room left was a...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Carnaween House is the ideal escape from busy lives. We love to welcome couples, families, foodies, sunset worshippers, golfers, walkers, runners, beach enthusiasts, surfers, dogs (extra charge) - whatever the purpose of your visit we strive to make sure it will be a memorable experience! We have 9 bedrooms of varying size, some rooms can be small due to the original layout when purchasing and renovating the house entirely in 2007. Only 3 rooms have tvs as we believe narin&portnoo is most enjoyed outdoors. Our restaurant has become a bit of a destination so it can be very popular and sometimes noisy, especially at high season and weekends. We also have 2 self-catering accommodations a few minutes walk away: Caranaween Cottage, a secluded 3 bed (sleeps 6) traditional irish cottage tucked away with private garden Carnaween Chalet, a cosy 2 bedroom dwelling to sleep 4 (1 double bed/1 bunk bed) and coming soon Carn'a'van, a shabby chic newly renovated caravan for those who don't mind up close and personal - could be used for extra bed space for the chalet as situation behind! we look forward to welcoming love - from all at Carnaween x ... more   less
